Im new to the r30 but took one on a test drive an loved the lsd irs and the brakies it did and with full electrics i had to buy it for $1,200. The only problem being its sluggy 2.4ltr.

I was just wondering whats involved in converting it to an rb20 turbo out of an r32 skyline. It will be manual and i was also wanting to put in the diff and do a full brake conversion from the 32. Is it worth it??

Welcome to old skool skylines!

It depends on how much you love the car whether not not it is worth it...

For the money it would cost to do the complete job you are describing....you could probably buy an R32 gts-t.

Unless of course, you are doing the work yourself. in which case, Yes, it would be worth it.

You could go the old-school L20ET (guess what's sitting out in my garage?).

My understanding is that the RB20DET will drop in if you fit the X-member from a R31 Skyline. I've yet to discover how the gearbox will go (it will need to be a RB-series box, the L-series won't bolt up), but I'm sure you would certainly require a custom tailshaft.

RB20DET is bolt in and would cost around $1500 for a motor, box, ecu and loom, and around $150 to modify tailshaft, about $500 give or take, to wire it up, you also need intercooler, fuel pump, air filter, exhaust etc etc. cheaper and easier then you may think tho :D

Now this is the good part my mate smashed his r32 a year ago and now just wants to get rid of the wreak so i have a whole r32 complete except for the radiator and front left quarter panel and the bent roof.

Now ill be doing all the work myself to keep the costs right down as ive done heaps of work on imports before like coolers + piping.

I just also need to know does the r32 diff bolt in and with the brakes whats the best way to go. Should i use the r32 rotors and calipers or is there a better alternative.

you will find that the halfshafts have 5 bolts in the 32 and the r30 has 6.....but if you get early(88/89) silvia halfshafts they SHOULD bolt straight in. diff is not a straight bolt in affair, but its close....doesnt takemuch to do it....

just becareful with the axle length, as R200's are a lot wider.

r32 brakes are not going to fit unless you use ither hr31 import struts or s-13 coilovers and s-13 hubs, not as hard as you might think, though i havent done the work yet, have all the bits just no time...once i do the work i'll then have a brand new set of Koni adj struts, king springs and DBA slotted rotors for sale all done less than 100km. hint hint.....

For brakes, I'm working on a a conversion using the early (4-stud) Z31 rotors and hubs. These fit straight onto the R30 stub axles (have to remove the backing plate). Just need to figure out how to adapt the calipers (they are 100mm centres on the mounting holes, R30 is 90mm). Then you can run 4-spotters if you wish.

    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
