im not getting spark on cylinders 1,3 and 5

is it possible that this could be a problem with my powerfc itself?

does the PFC have some kind of diagnostic to check this?

No it doesnt have a diagnostic for that.

Your best bet would be to eliminate the basics first. Dont do too much diagnosis at once though. Take small steps.

1. check your plugs, see if the dead cylinders have wet (fuel) plugs. Consider swapping plugs between working and non-working cylinders to eliminate faulty parts.

2. swap coil packs around, for the same reason as above.

3. Try another ecu, or a standard one if you can get your hands on one.

3. consider pairing up cylinders for waste spark operation. This is done at the ignitor. 1+6, 5+2,3+4. As dodgy as it might sound you can try using a single paper clip to bridge the ignitor inputs. You will need a circuit diagram for your model engine. If it doesnt start to fire the dead cylinder using this method it could still not be getting fuel.

Good luck!

yea, after allot of trouble shooting today it looks like some cylinders might not be getting fuel

so i'll be checking that tommorow

I would assume that would be an ecu or injector wiring harness problem as the injectors are batch fire (3 at a time) would pay to check which injectors are wired together before you go pulling thinghs apart though is it may be different ones to the cylinders not getting fuel.

just checked the manual and i cant figure out what ones fire together, on page 351 it has a heap of technical things to check to find the problem, if you dont have it already do a google search, its around 460 pages and well worth downloading.

anyone know which 02 sensor is "02-2"on the sensor check screen mine is faulty and i got a rear 02 sensor so im hoping its the rear one can amyone comfirm? i tried unpluging it and looking bck at the power fc and it was stil giving a reading on both

yep the vhost that holds the PFC FAQ is broken

im trying to fix it (its not my server)

if i cant fix it i will get it moved to somewhere else so wont be down for too long

i still have the data so its not lost

new hosting is here;

http://www.paulr33.com/powerfc-faq/powerfc-faq.htm

it may take a few hours to propogate via DNS so if it doesnt load, try in a few hours

please be patient, it is still uploading so the images/links probably wont work for a few hours

Updated PFC FAQ

-updated Apexi PowerFC Wikipedia articile and PDF Snapshot

-updated Apexi PowerFC EL Hand controller and incuded video (thanks John)

You suck, you got me all excited thinking that the EL hand controller was all new and did something good, but it dosnt :P

yeah it looks the same as the normal FCC3 hand controller, just EL instead of backlit LCD

im yet to see one working in the flesh, the one on the demo video is just a screen loop and not a real unit in operation

    • So my rb is finally having more problems. 2 issues here but I'm here to just to mainly discuss the rattle noise. The other day when I turned on the car and when I take off or go in reverse, there is a temporary rattle noise but when I cruise, boost, idle it's completely fine no rattle whatsoever. I've also done all the servicing, all the health checks you can think of and it all passes with flying colours.  Also the rattle doesn't increase with rpm, it's only at a very certain rpm (slightly above 1,100rpm). My other car also has the same issue every once in a while. Changed the oil recently, no difference. Even took my oil to a lab and everything was quite good surprisingly. Timing belt changed a while ago to. Had the car on the hoist and can't see anything obvious. Tightened a couple of nuts on the exhaust manifold a couple of months ago. 2 different clips uploaded. One of them was supposed to another issue but I'll save that for another time. Thought I'd see if anyone had this same noise before, it's a bit hard to diagnose while it's intermittent. If I'm not mistaken, I think I had this a while back but can't remember exactly. I was thinking if it's doable I'll get someone to hold the throttle cable at 1,100rpm and hopefully it replicates the sound. rb25det rattle only.mp4 rb25det slow start + rattle.mp4
