Hahhahahahahha.. I just read this and couldnt help but laugh at almost every second post.

WRX = FUN

SKYLINE = FUN

In response to the question = The WRX would win but not by very much at all.. infact if you go down to whooopass wednesdays in perth you will see very mixed results.

I would rather the Skyline however... " Looks + much much more.."

This is a Skyline Forum so the views are very one sided, My father inlaw has a 02 STi and has admitted defeat to a few GTST's in the past aswell so its got alot to do with the driver.

has anybody got a stock r33 gtst??

my brother has a stock 2004 ev06 wrx ,same as standard 2004 wrx just heavier (extra airbag and leather, and i tell you that id would much a stock r33 gtst. i love r33 and wrx , but there's no denying the truth guys..

would a r33gtst beat a stock xr6t cause i did in my bro's rex...and it does come to the drivers in the car..where you rev it to and how fast you change the gears so the revs dont drop and boost doesnt fall?

any1 up for a little squirt id be glad to

99wrx specs are 13.9 claimed by the manufacture. wats the  stock 1/4mile time for a r33 gtst?

i have never seen on (even with an exhaust) run better than a high 14

so once again as someone else said to answer the question asked in this thread, rex is no doubt faster.

The absolute truth is that stock on stock, the r33 would not beat a Rex if its life depended on it. I can say this because i have been against a couple of newest model STI's and they put up quite a fight, mind you my car aint close to stock. I think some people are getting a bit too paranioid thinking that nothing can beat their skyline, but hey, there is always someone faster than you out there.

And about the STI's. The launches on the sti's are crap, they suffer soo much low end lag up to just under 4000RPM!!!! They dont launch too well at all...

I'll have to drive a rexy - but in the mags they all comment how they rev to 6 or 7000rpm then drop the clutch to launch (thats how tey get good 0-100). I would think if an R33 and rexy had roilling start the R33 would win. Remember boost is very low in a stock skyline 4psi below 4500rpm and 7psi above that. Rexys run about 14psi stock. Fairer comparison would be with 10psi on the skyline. Nissan were very conservative with there boost levels.

Both fast cars - faster than you need on the street!

WRX through the first 2 gears then the Skyline would EAT it easy.

Modified vs modified just makes things easier for the Skyline...

WRXs are not very fast cars, only good for 0-100 due to their awsome awd system.

Straight lines are not what WRXs are made for, a roll on in any gear the rb25 (even rb20 in an r32) will spit on the rex when both are similar modified!

thread alive from the dead...obviously a Skyline Forum...teh GT-R (Skyline) can nevar lose!?!?

99wrx specs are 13.9 claimed by the manufacture. wats the  stock 1/4mile time for a r33 gtst?

I can only comment on STi V6...once again I will only comment on real goods from the land of the rising sun. I have on good ground seen a STi V6 run a best of 12.69s, compared to a R34 GT-R's best of 12.55s on the same day...both stock. You make your guess on a R33 25GTt.

Here is some pretty interesting data, Speed Ring data test conducted by Driver Magazine Japan back in 1999, all cars stock. The top speed recorded is of course depended on the conditions of that day, all cars were tested on the same day and conditions by the same drivers with the best top speed recorded.

Remove the speed limiter and the R33 25GTt reaches a top speed of 250km/h along with a Legacy B4 RSK, while a STi V6 will top out at 240km/h. A R32 GT-R surprisingly only reached a top speed of 248km/h, slightly slower than a R33.

And the following cars will all slowly edge away from the R33 25GTt...Aristo V300 (255), GTO MR (255), Z32 (256), RX-7 Type R (256) and Evo 6 (260).

The R33 GT-R reached a top speed of 262km/h (would be embrassing if it lost to an E6) but was edged out by the NSX (266km/h) and Supra RZ (279km/h).

FYI: Straying away a bit...as you can see the Evo certainly keeps up with the big boys if anyone thought they were not fast (speed wise), else it wouldn't be the Tsukaba Circuit King in both modified and stock form. The Evo VIII RS holds the record for the quickest manufacturer factory built car with a time of 1.03.633 secs. The 2nd quickest is the STi Spec C with 1.03.920 secs and the quickest GT-R is the BCNR33 V-Spec with 1.04.02 secs. The best lap time the BNR32 ever did was a 1.06.18 sec back in 1993 and the BNR34's best lap time was 1.04.121 secs.

Can't really call a 400R manufacturer built, but it recorded a 1.02.65 sec.

This whole thread comparison is meaningless, as you can see all the cars are pretty evenly matched and dependent on the driver's ability. Tell me again a R33 will smash any the above cars and you'd really have to be next to perfect shifting or taking a line on the circuit against a good driver!!!

Both pretty even in my experience- Rex takes you on the line(sidesteps clutch at high revs, ouch!) but you do catch in 33 by end of second.

When talking power to weight etc please factor in the drivetrain losses due to the AWD configuration.

Other thought would be how many times in a row would the rex beat the 33 before clutch/gearbox shits itself?? Skyline can be punished and generally stand up to it so for a cheap/reliable fast choice i would pick the 33 myself.

Sidenote- anyone here actually tried to do any repairs in the engine bay of a rex, man they put almost everything where you can't get at it!! LOL

jazza08, yeah which is why I said I only have information on the STi V6 and with the accompany data of the BNR34, it supports the siksII post of a stock R33 can't be knocking into the 12s or low 13s. Furthermore in my earlier post last month lol, a stock JDM WRX being lighter and more powerful will no doubt run a quicker 1/4 than a R33 25GTt.

Running against an Aust delievered WRX, I say it be close...in favour of maybe the R33 give he/she can launch against a 4WD.

Aussnick, what are we comparing, we know they are weak but let's be fair how many times are you gonna be launching and the gearbox failing would only be valid on a modified WRX.

Personally i've got no respect at all for GTST's or WRX's. I used to own a Twinturbo Soarer (yes lets say how slow they are, although they take a gtr from a roll :)). Anyway i raced a R33 about 4 times coming out of brisbane one night, needless to say, i was very dissappionted with how he went. Wrx's are gutless wonders.

WRXs are designed to be capable in both acceleration and handling, not just straight line speed you twit.

And yes, to end all arguements for ever and ever: Without a doupt, and brand new non STi or Sti WRX would be faster than an R33 GTS-T stock for stock. Duh.

That said, I love my stock SII.

my mate just purchased a 99 rex, with the usual mods, exhaust, boost, water spray, lots of suspension and braking mods done.

my car has the usual mods, fmic, exhaust, boost, tuned safc, and a few other things

on the same boost level, just under 1bar, even in first and second, due to no traction on my part and piss poor launch from him, 3rd gear i pulled away from him and kept pulling. felt good after that, i enjoy my car more.

another thing, i went out for a lap or 2 with him, and rexs are boring as hell...the intitial punch is ok, but after that, they have no top end, and around roundabouts and the like, they can move quick, but its just no fun.

ill stick to my 33 anyday.

cheers

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
