Depends on the R32.

You can buy an 89 model R32 for around the 12k mark and expect an engine that will need work, less than perfect paint, and minimal modification.

OR

You can buy an already modified 91-93 model that has been loved enough for the previous owner to spend all/or lots of their money on.

Depends what you are after. But remember if you want an R32 with a GTR kit, good engine, nice wheels, exhaust and suspension... then you are going to be looking at 17k and up. To do this yourself you may be looking at around $20k

This will be interesting. Im not really looking to sell my car. I still want to enjoy the fruits of all my money and hard work a little bit longer:)

But as an example, noone wants to buy a modded car, as the premise is they have all been thrashed. I have done about 4-5 burnouts in my car...and they were at the drags. Outside of that it has racked up all its street kms with little old me behind the wheel...and the fact that i have never been booked in my life shows how sedate i drive on the road:)

But ppl dont want to buy modded cars beacuse they have been thrashed etc. So what would be the going value for an R32 GTST 92 model with:

- Weds 17" wheels with D01Js

- Complete Whiteline susp setup, (Whiteline demo car)

- Fully rebuilt master cylinder, brake booster, clutch slave cylinders and master clinders etc

- 324 x 30mm DBA 4000 front rotors with fully rebuilt and HPC Coated calipers,

- Braided brake lines front and rear

- HKS Hyper Exhaust

- HKS Air filter

- HKS Type S Intercooler

- Apexi Power Fc

- Apexi AVC-R

- Bosch 040 fuel pump

- 19 row oil cooler with remote filler

- Top of the range Carbon Fibre Momo Race seat, with 3" Sparco harnesses

- AiM 6-Channel Data Logger, with dash mounted Dash Logger

- Trust TD06-20G Turbo, with Trust SS exhaust manifold and Type R Wastegate

- Xtreme 5 puck ceramic clutch , with lightened GTR flywheel

- Body in better then reasonabee condition and interior in pretty good condition.

PPL that read the forum may know that the past 6 months i have had a few dramas with the car, hot coolant sprayed all over the engine bay, spun a bottom end bearing on the original RB20. But all is fixed and going well.

Now i seriously think i would have trouble selling the car for $15k, but as is i would want about 22-24k. And i wouldnt want to strip and sell parts separately becauase its a shame to not see the car enjoyed by the next owner just as i have.

Ppl will laugh at me, but to me thats what i think its worth to the right owner with similar interests to me and looking to bash around the track in a fun, and mildly capable car:)

A car is only worth what someone is willing to pay:( Thnakgfully im not looking to sell, but i think you are crazy to want to spend 10-12k on a std car when you can a well looked after modded car

See that the thing. The Data Logger and the seat are worth over $5000 by themselves...so they would have to come out. Then id sell the brake setup and wheels/tyres, but aside from that id like to keep the car with the current turbo setup..perhaps with the Jap re-written ecu rather then the Power Fc.

But like i said ill be keeping it for a while yet:) Still have to get that sub 12.5 1/4 time, sub 1:10 Wakefield time, 1:25 Sandown time...so many things i want to do in this car before i move on. Thing is i will sell the car so i can travel do some other things, not to buy another car:)

lol receipts for who did the work:) Apart from BD4s, Whiteline and Race Brakes i have done all the work on the car..so thats another thing, the credibility of me workign on the car vs a name workshop:(

If someone wants your car, they will pay the asking price:)

im never selling my car, (unless it was to buy gtr)

you see a million r33's selling but the only r32's for sale are the 89 model or the odd 92-93

rb20's are built to last, in standard form they can take a massive beating.

ive seen r32's going for 9k previously but if you want a car with rust thats up 2 you.

2 years ago i looked around for 2months, found what i wanted, paid the money got my 32 and have only ever had 1 problem, leaking water pump, thats all!!!! (knock on wood)

i always get people commenting on how great the car looks, sounds and runs.

so my advise is, if you have to wait a couple weeks or months to get that extra 1-2k and buy yourself a nice example of rb20powah!!

goodluck

ps dont buy a whale like everyone else

:werd:

I have driven the R32 properly for about 2 days now.. already it outbrakes, outhandles, and feels more nimble and sporty than my old fairly modified R33. The feedback is just so much more nicer. Can't wait to kick 200rwkw+ into the back of her and let fly.

A good example of why its good to buy a 32 with a bit higher price tag. You get the peace of mind thats omeone with this sort of passion has owned the car before you..

2 years ago, i paid $14000 landed, complied & registered for my 93 r32. it came pretty much stock. enkie wheels, blitz filter, and a few gauges.

ive had my waterpump fail, and also ended up replacing my gearbox. still the water pump was only $60 and the gearbox was $650. i think thats pretty good for 1.5 years of caining, and 1/2 a year of learning to drive.

r32s rule. i encourage u to buy one, u wont be disappointed

i dont think %90 of the R32's around are worth the money, but i spose people are paying the prices. Great cars, but it has to be kept in mind their age. 12k for a 16 year old car is a lot of money. it's 2nd hand cars in general, they dont depriciate that much in australia.

The Soarer on the other hand................that would easily rival/beat a R32 if you are into that sort of thing. the original price was a hell of a lot higher but you could get one of a similar age for a similar price.

man have you driven a soarer?

they are not as nible as a 32, not as quick, and i wouldnt look twice at one.

plus there price has decreased dramatically

I reckon the prices are OK. The only people who will tell you to pay no more than $10K for a 32 are the tight arses who can't buy it or a a bit jealous your trying to get one. I'm trying to sell a 33 and 32 GTR and can't believe some people. I mean I imported to sell but I'm not trying to make double the profit. I just want to make enough to cover my cost and make it worth while to import again. Remember the 89 one is probably as good as the later model one, My wifes 32 is in a good a condition as my 33 mechanically and body wise, so the comment about needing to fix the motor on the 89 is bull. Try get there prices down but, I mean you set the price so people can haggel with you a bit, then you both end up winning. i would be happy to fork that sort of money out.

Exactly why i'm not going to sell my 32 that has a 6k RB30DET sitting under the bonnet. +turbo + powerfc etc.

The goal is for it to be setup for track use. Once I get out of Uni that is.

Just the RB30DET turbo and powerfc are worth $11,000.

I don't have receipts (apart from the motor build) as I do all the labour my self.

I've been stung too many times. If you want some thing done properly, do it your self. :D

+ when you do it your self you always seem to have left over bolts, which is good. Less bolts = less weight = faster car. :D

Nah bro, my cuz can get 'em for 9 grand bro....

Precisely why I'd rather keep mine & mod & enjoy rather than put it on sale for a loss... People are still trying to charge $10K for a bloody VL Calais with a front mount. You can't tell me an R32 is less car than a VL.

Bah

.

Roy - the day you decide to sell that car of yours for $15K as is, you call me.

I should have sold it you back in 2002 when i was in Indonesia:)

After 5 years of ownership and 115,000kms, i still love my car and get excited when i get behind the wheel, especially now strapping myself into my race seat:whackit:

LOL...the replacement value of the seat is over $3,500, and i wouldnt want to sell the car without it as it adds to the character of the car:whackit:

So who is a frustrated race car driver:(

momo.extreme_seat.gif

I couldn't afford the asking price you had back in 2002..

actually I can't afford it now.. hahahaha.. damn weddings these days..

But in the new year I will look for a cheap 4 door R32 and do my RB30..

that chair is built for my arse!!!

I can't believe you spend $3.5K for a chair man.. hahahaha crazy

i have mine for sale. i put it for $18500

R32s are worth the money man and only reason i am selling is to upgrade to a gtr. I had a r33 97 gtst before this and this shits all over it. handling and performance wise. so dont be fooled by people saying over 14 or 15k is expenxive cause it aint. if you want a decent well looked after R32 it will usually show by the price tag.

Its like comparing 2 89 GTR'S. One is for sale for 24k the other for 30k. why would the other GTR be so low in price. Well ofcourse been thrashed, body is damaged, intertior is worn etc so dont u think it would be wise to sepnd a bit more cash but have a more reliable and sturdy car??

thats my 2 cents worth

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
