ahh I see....well that was bound to happen, these cars are brilliant but can't be thrashed for ever.

Was it just the turbo? what b00st was it running at the time? Like Brody said, just sounds like a reason for an upgrade to me

Boost spiked at 0.92 bar coming down the straight near redline about 190km/h. Just heard a pfft accompanied by a squeak and lost all boost.

I've got it up on bricks in the garage now. Struggling with a bizzare alan key bolt holding the dump pipe on.

Good to meet you Jase and also Tim. Hope you all had fun out there.

Did you kick some s2000 butt Mark?

abo bod nice to meet u and if you get stuck give me a call can give you a hand got my car down to 1.15.04 on gp track

Very nice time... you must have some serious power...

Getting very close to the Porsche Cup lap record of 1.12.9614 :P

cops arse

there enters the 31

had the shits with that friggin s2000 being in the way. had him thru corners but on straight he nailed me.

was great to get out there.

go the 31!

firstly, was a good day. Jason, thanks for the ride mate. Very, very angry car. I've still got some tar melted onto my shoe!!

That guy in the porsche was a champ. It was only his second time at OP but he was having a good go. I went for a ride in it, and the sound of that thing was awesome. Plus it's nice to be in a car with full leather and the air con running that can still go that hard!

At the end of the day the guy in the black silvia asked me if I'd like to go for a ride with him too and it was a revelation. he was a great steerer and managed a 1.20 (from memory) with me in the car. All in a car that still has the standard SR20, standard turbo and standard intercooler.

In case anyone is wondering why I was hitching rides like a bitch, the reason is I cooked my fluid :D

First session went out with the instructor (Darryl Cullen?), second session just getting a feel for the track. Third session I went out and pushed a lot harder and after four laps the pedal just went to the floor :) It never recovered after that. I went out for another session, but it was terrible.

Mark, that S2000 was a menace. He was really quick down the straight, but wouldn't yeild anywhere else on the track. He would brake really early, coast up to a corner, then brake again and then take a really defensive line. You'd think he was trying to hang on to first place in a GP the way he was driving. In the silvia we got stuck behind him for half a lap, we were quicker (miles quicker) everywhere except down the straight. so we go to pass him down the straight and instead of lifting to let us claim the racing line for the kink he keeps into it. Graham (who brakes very late for the kink as it is) is stuck on the inside of the track, brakes and makes it through the kink but runs out of brakes for turn two and we went straight off. He did very well to keep it off the wall.

Mark, I think you take out the go hard or go home award. You must of driven nearly every session. My mate couldn't believe you were able to fit 10 spare rims and tyres in your car!

Yeah, I would have loved an in-car camera with us in the porshce behind you in the GTR. hahaha.

fark if I'd known they'd allow it I would have taken the DV cam in with me, but I just assumed they wouldn't allow hand held filming.

yeah, he sells them on the day. I bought one of my GTR. hmmm I dunno if he keeps the ones that don't sell on the day. I'll have a look at home tonight and see if I've got his card.

    • Just trying to get my head around this. At 5psi of boost, you turn on your wmi pump, and then you're using a 3000cc injector, to allow flow upto the actual engine, where you have your 6x200cc injectors and a 500cc injector. If the above is correct, what advantage are you obtaining by having the 3000cc injector blocking flow, is this just incase a line breaks between that injector and the motor you can stop flow immediately? Or are the 6x200cc and 500cc less injectors and just spray nozzle?
    • Welcome! New member myself, but I had an R33 back in 2002. Best advice I could give, based on my experience: if you're running the factory turbo, be very conservative with boost. I made the mistake of just fiddling around with the boost controller and cranking the boost for fun, and the end result was my intake pipes popping off frequently from the constant deluge of oil that was being blown into the recirc by the stressed-out turbo, which itself was siphoning oil from the engine and farting it out both sides of its centre bearing (or something to that effect). If I could do it all again, I would have gotten a new turbo and had a tune dialled in professionally and then just left it alone! Funny you mention the metal shavings in the gearbox, as I had the same thing - the probe plug (magnetic drain plug, essentially) would come out caked with shavings. At least it was doing its job. Not sure if that's just sacrificial wear and part of the deal, or if my gearbox was shagged, but I wasn't abusing it. Enjoy the R33 - they're a dying breed, and if they weren't $35k+ on CarSales in Queensland, I might have picked up one of those again, instead of the 370GT I own now (though I'm loving the 370GT, that big 3.7L V6 just hits different).
    • Howdy folks. I owned an R33 back in 2002, which was thoroughly beyond my capacity (financially speaking) to maintain/insure, so we parted ways in 2004. Fast forward 21 years (to literally yesterday, in fact) and I'm now the proud owner of a 2007 V36 370GT. I'm happily surprised by how much power the VQ37VHR makes, compared to the RB25DET, considering the latter is turbocharged. I had planned to add a turbo at some point but I'm on the fence about whether I'll even need it (though I do love the sudden onset of extra torque). Any other 370GT owners around the traps, I'd love to hear about your experiences with this car (good and bad).
    • Perhaps the answer is... more jacks!* *proper jacks must be used.
