yeah, it was mid march .. then mid april .. now its changed to may 15th because of the works.

hmmm, i got some castor rods coming in soon, once i get them installed and my suspension all sorted out i might start entering then.

i work from home now so the poor car just sits in the garage all day long :D

whats the SES website?

Caster. As much as you can wind on and not hit the front of the guards.

Camber. neg 1.5 to neg 2.5 if you don't care about inside tyre wear

Toe 1mm total toe in

Rear

Camber neg 1.5

toe 0 to 1mm total toe in

Bridgestone RE55

For full blown track racing, add another 1 deg neg to the front.

quick Q. My car doesnt have adjustable camber tops but the camber can be adjusted via height also can't it? (like you see with people who dump the shit out of their cars and have a heap of camber on them)

the reason i ask is that i put in another set of coilovers (last one got a tad bent) a little while back and the camber was fine for each side previously. after whacking in the new ones i just put the heights to about the same as i was going to get it done properly later on but now the camber on the left is 1 deg different.

I can't see the money being the major issue, if you have a regular job. Afterall, many will spend $2000+ on a set of crappy looking chromies, or an equal amount to play playstation in their car. I don't quite understand that most of the time, especially doing it to a "performance" car. But when you're that age, it's all about partying and impressing ur mates or the girls.

I think the main problem is probably similar to QLD.. a large number of the skyline owners you see are still living at home, and only able to afford the car living off their parent's back. They're not really willing to risk it.. and they don't like / don't want to learn how to work on their own cars if something goes wrong (or are well off enough to afford garage rates everytime they blow something).

Soon as they move out of home, its back to more sedate transport, or they've moved onto other things like buying a house, or popping out kids.

The camber will change slightly with ride height and the diff in camber is probably tied in with how you bent it the original coilover...

You need adjustable top arms or at the least, adjustable top arm bushes from Whiteline.

Good call. Alot of people would rather spend money on bling for their cars than get out & have a go. At the end of the day entry fees and licenses are cheaper than traffic fines & yellow stickers.

But to go back to the original point - have a look at the lap times put up for the various eastern states circuits (in the motorsport section) and compare with those for Wanneroo. Last time I looked there was only one time posted for WA...

How long has there actually been a team? But djr81 is correct, you don't see all that many skylines being raced. The only regular cars I see down at MC for instance are Baz's 32, some white R34 with pink mesh and not many others.... Each to their own.

There are two kinds of people in the world - those that think they have enough power & those who know what they are talking about. 4WD and a recent upgrade to RE55's requires alot of hp to upset the car. 300+rwhp is never enough to really upset a GT-R's handling.

Have alook at the photos in my gallery & tell me if I am trying hard enough.

More seriously - you see way more WR-X's, Silvias, even old school Escorts than Skylines out & about.

you will find most people buy cars just to look good in, they dont give a shit about motorsport and probably dont even watch it on TV.

having said that, most skyline drivers are like that.

The SAUWA MC team has been going since the start of this Summers series and we're booked in for the Winter series too. Uhmm actually, its quite easy on the hill climbs, just, speaking from experience here, the circut sprints its a little harder, but can still, and has happened..

hey id love to do some ciruit racing, rally etc,  ive always wanted to the targa tasmiania etc, but i dont have the experiance...yet....

my current aim is to get the car on the road and then ill see what happens

You don't have to enter Targa anything to get involved. There are lots of club days at circuits (ie practice only) and you will be pleasantly suprised how interested & helpful people are. All sorts of cars are around (Notable exceptions are Skylines & HSV's) some of them quite slow & quite ordinary - but that doesn't stop their owners from having a go & having some fun.

At the end of the day it is a much safer environment than out on the roads.

You won't have "offs" in your car unless you try to impress people and drive outside your limits or the limits of the car

You wouldn't be competing if you didn't push the limits of yourself and your car. I've been to alot of the SES events and see some good drivers come unstuck. Gtrken is a very good driver, won the SES, and he's had a fair share of "offs".

    • I normally run with I think a 10mm, and definitely use the second handle you can add to a drill. They hurt when they bins up!   For the crush tube, once all subframe is clear, I'd try some stilsons and see if I can get it to start to twist.
    • Probably because they couldn't, because the use of the variable resistor to create a "signal" in the ECU is managed by the ECU's circuitry. The only way that VDO could do it would be if they made a "smart" sensor that directly created the 0-5V signal itself. And that takes us back to the beginning. Well, in that case, you could do the crude digital (ie, binary, on or off) input that I mentioned before, to at least put a marker on the trace. If you pressed the button only at a series of known integer temperatures, say every 2°C from the start of your range of interest up to whatever you can manage, and you know what temperature the first press was at, then you'd have the voltage marked for all of those temperatures. And you can have more than one shot at it too. You can set the car up to get the oil hot (bypass oil coolers, mask off the air flow to oil coolers, and/or the radiator, to get the whole engine a bit hotter, then give it a bit of curry to get some measurements up near the top of the range.   On the subject of the formula for the data you provided, I did something different to Matt's approach, and got a slightly different linear formula, being Temp = -22.45*V + 118.32. Just a curve fit from Excel using all the points, instead of just throwing it through 2 points. A little more accurate, but not drastically different. Rsquared is only 0.9955 though, which is good but not great. If you could use higher order polynomials in the thingo, then a quadratic fit gives an excellent Rsquared of 0.9994. Temp = 2.1059*V^2 - 34.13*V + 133.27. The funny thing is, though, that I'd probably trust the linear fit more for extrapolation beyond the provided data. The quadratic might get a bit squirrely. Hang on, I'll use the formulae to extend the plots.... It's really big so you can see all the lines. I might have to say that I think I really still prefer the quadratic fit. It looks like the linear fit overstates the temperature in the middle of the input range, and would pretty solidly understate what the likely shape of the real curve would say at both ends.
    • I got a hand held bisssel one and it's a piece of shit. Doesn't work for more than about 5 seconds. So much so that I nearly refuse to believe any wet dry vac actually works or has enough suction to clean the carpet of a car. I'm discouraged as all the good ones are $300+ for an unknown result.     • That could very well be the thermistor, but the ECU only sees Volts. VDO don't seem to provide a 0-5 volt curve, only the resistance curve.... (or line).
    • Yes. Probably, given that there is only access from the bottom end of it, go with a drill bit. Don't start too small. 7 or 8mm is probably the right size. You want something that can make a big enough hole to do some damage, but not so bit that it clashes with the steel or binds up and breaks your wrist. A slow speed is probably a good idea too. Once the rubber is destroyed, you then have to get the crush tube off the stud, which will be the whole heat/oil/cutting exercise all over again, but this time with the need to strictly avoid damaging the stud (any further than the corrosion might already have done.
