not at all.

There is a car here in Vic thats been running 550awkw on the RB36/30 and its still gonig strong 2-3years now.

and thats not the most power it can make either :cheers:

I don't think you can make that much power and still have it driving reliably as the more you rev it and the more boost the more strain you have, therefore shortening the engines life.

Also is long term leaving it on the shelf,driving it to work,drags on week nights or a bit of club racing? or some of all of them?

Nispro has built a 26/30 that made a tad over 1000hp.

It's not what you call a daily driver or one to cruise around town, it's more strip oriented.

The work involved in building these kind of engines is mega expensive and time consuming. Nizpro made a stronger custom crank girdle to handle, the list is endless....

I wonder how many times he has had to rebuild it  

Think about it 14ltr truck engines produce approx 500hp and you want to put 1000 through 3ltrs and want it to be reliable...... don't think so!!

not one rebuild, you do it right, you wont have a problem.

This is not a once off either. Heaps of other cars here bet belted around the circuit often and are fine

*have you built any engines - yourself - not a workshop?

*are you an engineer or metallurgist - are you factually stating block strength results of empirical tests or 'seat of the pants' / 'gut feel' type evidence?

*14L truck engines do not produce much power, as they do not operate at high RPM. Note the requirement for trucks is torque to move the mass, not power

*the car R31Nismoid is talking about is empirical / physical evidence that a fully built RB26/31 is capable of long term, high stress (track work) use

It sould to me, like many people here, you are more accustomed to watching DVDs and reading magazines / forums, taking as gospel and regurgitating.

I've witnessed it with my own eyes.

Are we talking about 1000hp on pump fuel here or something more exotic?

I have a SBC on gas and I could never afford to drive it everyday that's for sure. :P

I am a qualified mechanic, and have been out of that for a fair while, I understand that technology changes, but there is still the wear factor & reliability,

and by pushing things well past their "designed power" output i feel that there life expectancy will suffer greatly.

the car has done inexcess of 400km's

And so have many other.

we are talking 20thou, 30thou... cars are still running strong.

Whats so hard to beleive if they are physically there doing it on the track at most track meets each year?

It can, and has been done, and not just once.

If your tuning is right, your servicing resiliant... and you dont have something like a fuel pump fail and starve the engine...

There is no reason why anything cant last years.

    • Hi all, Long time since I've posted here. Looking for some advice on what I can remove to further identify the cause of my issues.  I can move the passenger seat forward and back but the knob used to adjust the seat angle is pretty much free spinning, there's very little resistance.  Removing the side cover I can see that the chain is intact but the shaft for the adjustment spins without the gear attached to it moving.  What's my next step for disassembly here? Is this a common fault? Just being a little cautious as I didn't want to start removing bolts for a spring to fly out or something equally as stupid.  Cheers
    • Those above shitboxes, mediocre and above usually have a turbo strapped to them, hence the slightly higher octane is required.  
    • Hi all,   long time listener, first time caller   i was wondering if anyone can help me identify a transistor on the climate control unit board that decided to fry itself   I've circled it in the attached photo   any help would be appreciated
    • I mean, I got two VASS engineers to refuse to cert my own coilovers stating those very laws. Appendix B makes it pretty clear what it considers 'Variable Suspension' to be. In my lived experience they can't certify something that isn't actually in the list as something that requires certification. In the VASS engineering checklist they have to complete (LS3/NCOP11) and sign on there is nothing there. All the references inside NCOP11 state that if it's variable by the driver that height needs to maintain 100mm while the car is in motion. It states the car is lowered lowering blocks and other types of things are acceptable. Dialling out a shock is about as 'user adjustable' as changing any other suspension component lol. I wanted to have it signed off to dissuade HWP and RWC testers to state the suspension is legal to avoid having this discussion with them. The real problem is that Police and RWC/Pink/Blue slip people will say it needs engineering, and the engineers will state it doesn't need engineering. It is hugely irritating when aforementioned people get all "i know the rules mate feck off" when they don't, and the actual engineers are pleasant as all hell and do know the rules. Cars failing RWC for things that aren't listed in the RWC requirements is another thing here entirely!
    • I don't. I mean, mine's not a GTR, but it is a 32 with a lot of GTR stuff on it. But regardless, I typically buy from local suppliers. Getting stuff from Japan is seldom worth the pain. Buying from RHDJapan usually ends up in the final total of your basket being about double what you thought it would be, after all the bullshit fees and such are added on.
