The one from Monday?????????

Was primarily about the impounding laws, and had a segment on street racing, and it included a couple of Skylines in there, but it really pissed me off. The footage they shown was actually SPED UP!!!!!!!!!!

There were some absolute idiots doing burnouts & 360's & that sort of thing in traffic, with cars going the same way or other way, but they showed some street dragging, and with a couple actually sped up the footage to make them seem like they were going faster. There was also one guy taping his digital speedo going 140kph around a long bend at night, and then speeding up to the "incredible, stupid" speed of 170kph.

I understand this sort of thing puts a bad name on the rest of the people who use their cars in the right way, but the way the media leant this segment was to bring even more attention to these sorts of cars. The only ones they showed footage of were either Skyline's, VL turbo commondores or some V8's. People who have now seen this will only think the people who drive these cars are hoons, and will only strengthen the backing for cops to pull over cars like this for doing nothing wrong, when all the time there are houses being broken into, people getting mugged/beaten up, as well as all the cars that fly in and out of traffic.

:spank: over. Side note, anyone here had their car impounded????????

Pretty much sums it up - sad but true. Its a shame that we appear pretty much helpless to stop this sort of media scare campain. Anything to improve ratings, who cares how far the truth is distorted.

It was interesting that brocky didnt think confiscating cars was a good idea either but didnt waste much time going into detail - just skimmed over that bit.

im sure they would get just as much viewers if they were showing people going to track days, doin drags at the plex, drift days etc, keeping it off the streets, staying legal but having fun and still able to show some great footage.

"Car Enthusiasts Gear Together To Encourage Others To Race Legally"

"The Race is on for car enthusiasts to stay legal, yet do what they love"

(Copyright... lol not that anyone would use it, but its MINE if anyone does.!!! and i demand PAYMENT!)

Never happen, it would be an expose on how 'overpowered' and dangerous these cars are, just look what these cars do - and they are driven on the street - how can the government endanger the public by letting cars like this on the road and how are they going to stop it. Bottom line, MORE regulations. Not against being a dickhead behind the wheel, but against the cars.

I dont know if anybody knows the story of the Ford GHTO Phase IV?

Fear/outrage sells and increases viewing. As does sensationalist journalism with clever editing.

Dan, I sent an email of complaint to them, and invited them to come to Perth with me on a cruise to see what it's really like, maybe you can send one too & offer your headlines. :headspin: :headspin:

It will be interesting this week as Parliment sits and talks about the import rules again as to what will come in and what won't be allowed, so this sort of media coverage does very little in helping to keep a larger range of cars from coming into Australia,

It would be good if Drag Combat could get some positive media coverage for this event to be aired on the commercial T.V stations, but unfortunately I think the media will want to show off the car show being held in that messed up hay shed in Perth this weekend, the media are nothing but pimps there business thrives on scandal and controversy and have you ever noticed that it is always the minority groups of people that get all the long playing segments as this is prime T.V viewing

I think in 6 months time this will of died a slow death as the general public will no longer be "shocked" and "horrified " by the media covering this sort of thing

I did not see the program but I bet it was old footage that was used once before with some clever editing

yeha i know about hte phase IV GTHO banned coz of its motor..... albiet it was a nascar engine in a street car... but if they go after imports i wonder if they will hit on the porche GT series which are a road going version of race cars... in essence i wonder if thety will go after the exotics as they are the closest thig to race cars on the streets

I spent some time at a recent motor show talking to one of the bigwigs at Chrysler, who let a few interesting comments slip.

Local manufacturers and resellers have an organised campaign to stop imports (AKA the 15 yr rule) as it hurts their business. (but he agreed they offer great value for money, and that most local offerings are years behind)

They are discussing the idea of not offering trade-ins on imports, (i.e. - you sell it yourself privately and then come and purchase a car from us.) Initially I thought this would be cutting their own throats, but if there were sufficient numbers of yards that do this, the public perception would be that imports are a problem at the time of sale.

In light of the cash for comments scandal, it makes me wonder if someone else isn’t pushing this agenda.

It’s not looking good for import owners.

Was watching media watch the other day and they were running a story about TT and ACA and how they have a series of shows that are guarenteed to make decent ratings. Implant free breast enlargement, the ultimate diet and of course street racing. Did they show the footage of the black VR baking it up onto leach hwy out of maccas? they love that shot. No clever editiing, nothing clever about it, just stock stories re run with a new opening statement.

These things go around once every 6 months at least, its just tripe, i wouldnt get too worried about it.

oh and they let porsches on teh road because nobody can afford the 200+k to buy one. :P

    • Actually everyone on the roads was really well behaved. The only person that did any minor tailgating was a local hoon in a Turbo Focus. Unfortunately we weren't going the same way so there was no grand initial D touge battle. Lots of people pulled over and let me through. The amount of "Hey man nice car, omg skyline, nice 34 man woo" was suprising. Like really suprising. Like almost annoying. My partner was obviously surprised, she'd never seen anyone in the real world point out the car/like the car/want to chat about the car before, so to have like 3 people per day mention it was notable, I could finally say SEE? SOMEONE THINKS THEY'RE COOL. Everyone was also pretty suprised about the weather. Every day was dry and about ~13-14C. Mount Wellington had a sign that said they close the gates at 9pm and I was heading up there at about ~7:30. It was VERY apparent that conditions were getting significantly worse by the minute on the way up and down. The road on the mountain was terrible though, it's no driving road. I have various suspension related questions now. Luckily it was only about 20 minutes from where we were staying to the top of the mountain as said Google maps. We only had the 2 nights in Hobart. We went to the Farm Gate Market though which was really good - And went down to the Hastings Thermal springs/caves down there during the day. I'd definitely be up for going back again, so luckily there's a few more sights yet to see. Didn't get to do the west coast/queenstown/cradle mountain so this was supposed to be a 'scouting' trip anyway of sorts if I were to one day do/take part in/organize a more car-focused trip. As for the boat, it wasn't bad. Well it was bad, but not in the way you're thinking. We did the night trip which leaves at 6:45 (though you have to be there ~2 hours earlier) and arrives the next morning at about 6am. There is nothing to do on the ship. If you plan accordingly and bring a book/tablet/show to watch/charger you can just chill out, take some Travacalm and just sleep through it. The food there is an extremely basic buffet that costs $32 a plate, or $14 for a $3 pizza. The way back we had a travel kettle and a few different types of cup noodles and made our own tea/coffee in the room. This was a far superior way to do it. At the very least book one of the rooms with beds. I guess as we were in the off season we didn't have room mates. You get an option for rooms with 4 beds (2x bunks) or a room with just the two bottom beds. There's also some option for a deluxe queen bed but it's much pricer. We've been on sleeper trains in Asia before so we figured this is similar (and it was)
    • You just gotta be really, really, really clear and decisive with what you want your end product to be. 99% of people who want this conversion aren't "I want to run a 295 front tyre!" so they don't really need the widebody. They just want the OEM body to look a little less dumpy, so bonnet, bar, skirts job done with some camber, stretch, slam. It's when you want that, but then decide to pivot later you get big problems. See also if you're willing to get an all in one fibreglass bar, and you're willing to accept fibreglass problems like cracking the entire item on a driveway, instead of just a piece attached to the bottom, etc etc etc. Decide this all before buyin'.
    • After @Kinkstaah debacle, I'd never want to try and get it right 😛
    • The hood lines up with the fenders. The front bar doesn't perfectly line up with the fenders where the wheel arch is. You have to 'squeeze' the front bar 'in' as it wants to naturally flare out and be longer on the sides. There's a few threads where people notice this when they only swap a GTR style bumper and front bar. Unless you have genuine OEM items - you may be better served getting conversion kits. There are GTT bumpers to fit GTR hoods. There are GTR hoods (non genuine) to fit the GTT bracketry. MAY
