Hey all,

I'm now the proud owner of a 1997 Skyline GTS25t!! Picked it up yesterday and submitted the rego transfer info today, so officially its mine!

Just had it cleaned and detailed and it came up a treat.

Have to say that this is one of the nicest cars i've driven so far, you just don't get to appreciate them when you take them for a test drive, but now i've had a chance to drive it on roads in my own home area i'm just in awe of the ride and power these things offer.

If you think i'm excited, yeah, you got it ;)

Thanks to everyone to answered my questions about insurance and stuff, was a great help.

This one has a Nissan CW726 radio/tv/gps/cd stacker which didnt come with a manual and the R33 Owners manual (which came with the car) doesn't say anything about it. Does anyone know where I might find info in it, so far Google hasnt come up with anything

I remember when i got my r33 series 2 :D damn straight u should be excited lol.

Welcome, you will realise how much you will spend on your car now ;) its a never ending thing :) good luck lol and have fun!

Thanks :)

Yeah I know this will be the an endless money pit, not right away though, gotta clear a few bills before the additions begin, heh.

The beauty of this car is it is basically stock, it hasn't been anyones project car, so I have a clean sheet to begin with, except for the 3" exhaust which is fine by me!

First thing, Turbo timer... As much as I love sitting in the car I hate waiting, after that, speaker overhaul, the standard ones are either really average or these ones have died. I can live with the CW726 head unit for now though, wish i could for a manual for it.

pics pics pics

Ok, that didnt work

How do I attatch pictures? There is a button that looks like an envelope and says "Insert Image" but when I click on it a dialog box comes up asking me to type something in (between img and /img). What am I meant to type in ??

mike

Congrats man  love to see pics before and after clean up if you have em!

Thanks. Well the before and after shots are pretty much the same, as he must have had it cleaned and polished for the photo's, which is what I had done to it.

As soon as I work out how to inlude pics you'll see it :D

Mike

 Nice work mate.

I should pick up my R33 GTS-T some time next week :headbang:

cool, I hope you enjoy it as much as I am enjoying mine!

Why the heck Nissan didn't bring these things over back when they were in production i'll never understand. The ride, handling and performance is comparable or better to what was around in the local market back in the mid/late 90s. Nissan had a real killer here, shame they didnt act on it.

Mike

heh, thanks. Ok, these are the pics the previous owner took as my digital camera is screwed at the moment.

Hope the attachment thing works.. here goes!

Mike

Very nice clean Series 2, every series two has that badge on the bonnet exept for mine lol. i want one!!

heh, thats one thing i'm scared of, someone stealing the badges! Is this much of a problem with Skylines??? All of a sudden anyone walking near my car (when its at work) gets a very close look, anyone who stops and looks gets alot of my attention :)

Mike

The main badges that get stolen are the Boot badges (becasue they are so damn easy to rip off, y would someone do this as it is useless after. i take it just to wreck your car) and the Red/White GT badges on the left and right front quarter panels. Keep an eye out.

I didnt get my Badge stolen. The bonnet does not have any holes in it, so i guess it didnt have one, or the bonnet was repainted whilst the previous owner had it.

Yeah, i thought the GT badges might also be a target, think i'll have to electrify the car so any little turd that tries to steal a badge fries, heh.

Is there anyone getting reproduction badges made?? Places like Rare Spares sell replacement badges for the Ford GTs and Holden makes, someone must be doing the same for us Skyline owners.

No holes, so either they were filled in or maybe it was a delete item from factory?

I'd like to join, just wondering if I can pay by direct deposit rather than trying to get a cheque or money order? Or can i sign up and pay at AutoSalon?? If all goes well i'll check out AutoSalon sometime over the weekend, looking forward to it..

Mike: Nice car - welcome aboard!

Chris: A few of the aftermarket accessory places sell the badges. They are not OEM, but pretty decent copies. The GT-R badge I have on the Niva was $30 as opposed to $90 for a Nissan item. Looks the same as the one on Golgo - and gives me an extra 10kW

I can't recall the name of the particular place where I got it - but they'll have a trade stand at MAS. I'll put their details in here.

Will talk to them about offering SAU member discounts too :D

Officially you wont be able to... as we are not "sanctioned"

but come along and see us, we can work out something, Adz will have some forms with him :D

We dont do DD at the moment as people really stuggle to put the required details in and causes a reconcilliation nightmare

    • Ah. OK. I take it back. I hadn't looked closely at the R33/4 arms and presumed that GKTech did as GKTech do everywhere else, which is to use sphericals there. The poly bushings are made to be 100% interchangeable, should use the standard bolt just fine. Every other bush in every other place in pretty much every other car, does.
    • @silviaz Ok cool, so much easier with a video. I can see why this video would be confusing for new players.   It is obvious that this entire bonnet is going to be resprayed, have a look in the background around 2:05, you can see a bunch of bare metal on the left side of the bonnet.  It's not an issue for the primer being laid down on the non-prepped clear on the bonnet. It will be sanded off at a later stage.  This might not be obvious to new players, but working on bare metal and factory paint in this instance, the factory paint is like a mountain and the bare metal is a huge valley. The bonnet needs to be levelled flat before it receives it's final stage of colour and clear coat. During this levelling process, the primer that is landing on the clear that you are worried about will be removed.  Also, this guy is out of control. Zero PPE while spraying, maybe he is a good example overall about what not to do lol.
    • Ok I FINALLY found a video lol. This took way longer than it should have as I could have sworn I saw multiple videos like this. I kept finding the completely opposite (the correct way of doing this). I wouldn't be surprised if I f**ked this up somehow.  I just realised where I've been getting confused and even with other things I work on. I haven't been doing things the regular way instead I'm going a roundabout way of doing things, like putting epoxy primer first then filler for example instead of putting just filler then primer on top of that, then wondering what happens if I get that primer on the clear coat that I haven't sanded yet. This was a bit of an epiphany 😂  But anyways, here this video. Time stamp, 2:56, some of the primer lands on the paint unscuffed above. You can see from the reflection it looks shiny.
    • It does, this part circled in red. I assume the OEM bolt might not work well with the poly bushing because the dimensions may be different?
    • The J arm doesn't have bushes either. Assuming that by "J arm" you mean the part of the upright that runs down from the upper arm's outer bushes to the top of the hub. That has a kingpin style bearing in it. If you meant the lower control arm, it has 1 bush, at its inner end. If you have PU in there, that is superior to Nismo rubber. If you meant the caster/tension rod - it has 1x bush at the front end, and again PU is superior to Nismo rubber. But as I said above, I would definitely get the GKTech arms for that, as sphericals slay all other options there.
