Took the new car to the local dyno workshop and had it tested for hp -psi- and fuel ratios and considering the car is near stock for engine mods I was most impressed it only has a HKs exhaust from the cat back and a panel filter so the average hp was 204hp atw and the air fuel rating was about .7 which is fairly rich and the car was running on stock psi of 7psi of boost, overal I am very pleased with the result...

Next step I would be guessing is to try and locate a HKs dump pipe from the turbo and a big flow cat convertor (having problems trying to locate the dump any ideas) and then some sort of air fuel controller most here seem to use the Apexi range bu I have since found out that there are 2 types to get not sure as to which one will be best suited for me I am only wanting to avhieve about 250hp also looking at fmic

250rwhp is well within reachable relms :P

Dump pipe....even an X-Force 1

Apexi SAFC

Boost controller..maybe run 10psi

& your there!

Even without the SAFC , you could run a few more psi safely as your on the rich side anyway. for about 220rwhp

You might want to have a real close look at an EMS stinger ecu laced in instead of SAFC , it is more cost but also gives you ignition control & would be handy for future mods :(

Cheers

wat year is ur car bro? i got a 94 gtst and last time i dynoed it, all i had was 3in cat back, pod and bov and i got 223hp atw, running on standard boost. every1 thought it was pretty good for what it got. but since then got a huge fmic and will be boosted pretty soon, can't wait to get her on the dyno again...

I just went to my local Exhaust shop (proper guy, not a Midas etc) and said "I want a 3" front/dump/cat". The next day a custom front/dump (1 piece) and custom 3" Cat was fitted. It gave me around 13-15hp and drove so much better.

An Exhaust Cam Gear (about $170 delivered from Japan) will give you another 13-15hp and their you have your 250hp with no aftermarket management at all for just another $1,000 total.

The skyline is a late 1994

I thought about the EMS... but I think it is like a full on computor to replace the stock one which I am hesitant about at the moment also I am not sure as to specifics with the computors hardware eg. if the car stock ecu is a 16bit processor and a EMS is only a 8bit then there is no huge advantage... I have been down that track before with computors.. I think I need to be honest with myself as to how much h.p I am really wanting and how much I am prepared to pay for it ( and not just in $$).... I will probably end up just getting a air/fuel, but hey who knows they say a female is allowed to change her mind so I think I will just keep on reading and see what I like, the other thing I have to be mindfull of is having someone local that can tune the things as I have not got a clue...

George spoke to me about the dump that you are referring to and it sounds interesting just have to get rid of the crappy cassette player that is in the car at the moment so money will be spent there first then in about a months time will start modding the motor

For management, have a look at the Greddy E-manage, basic form does AFM intercept, same as SAFC, but for a little more you can get full ignition and injector control = full management.

205 is good, shows all is as it should be especially with 7 AFRs? this does seem a bit high, has it had the fuel pump done? should probably be getting more than 7psi boost too. Front/dump and cat are good ideas for next upgrade.

Oh, and if you are looking for 250rwkw, there is a guy selling a complete upgrade for $4k changeover with stock parts - FMIC, HKS turbo, injectors, fuel pump etc. Check the for sale, it would be an excellent cost effective way to make the car sing

Have previously used a GReddy E manage and was very good it helped out in increasing the Lancer power by 70% in N/A form but not sure if the GReddy and profec unit will be able to get rid of the speed limiter on the car were as the Power FC will be able to get that sorted

What I meant was with the piggy back style comps is that you have to match them up as you want them to work faster or at least the same speed as the factory unit as far as recieving air intake signals and processing them to the ignition/injection... if the factory unit is faster than the piggy back then processing delays means that you won't be getting the possible result .... but hey what would I know that is just my thoughts on after market comps ;)

the PFC is starting to look a winner so far as it will remove the 180klm speed limit, give better tuning/economy and can be tuned here local... now all I have to do is try and work out which model R33 it is that I have if it is a series 1, 1.5, it is deffinately not the 2...

which brings me to another interesting item on the rego papers the car says it is a 1995 model but on the plates inside the engine bay it says 11/94 but I think the bodyshape is very much like the S2 ?

I think I saw somewhere on the site were you can punch in model numbers and up will come details from the factory as to what your car is will try and find that to get more accurate details

    • Increasing overlap will bring the torque down earlier (and make your idle sound sick lol). Worth a shot (if you dyno time) to experience a bit (providing you are confident your valves won't kiss your pistons). Is to just take off 5 degrees across the boosted area of the map, and then retard the exhaust cam let's say, 3 degrees at a time and then overlay all the runs with VCT on all the way and VCT off as soon as you make positive pressure. Ideally you would have a total of 6x overlays to looks at 0 exhaust & VCT off once manifold pressure is +ve 0 exhaust & VCT on all the way -5 exhaust & VCT off once manifold pressure is +ve -5 exhaust & VCT on all the way -10 exhaust & VCT off once manifold pressure is +ve -10 exhaust & VCT on all the way Just leave your O2 wideband closed loop on for all of the boost area & RPM, and hopefully there isn't too much fuel correction needed and the Haltech is fast enough to compensate (I do this, then apply the correction to the main table). Getting that overlay data should give you a good indication of what to aim for.
    • So, my main limitation here is that the car does not have an oil pressure sensor by default, just a switch. As part of my tune I bought an oil pressure sensor upgrade so I now have access to oil pressure levels and logging rather than just the boolean behaviour of the switch but this means I need to use the tuning app to display this value. So, this rules out using any other app on the iPad. The app will also flash when pressure drops which is a nice feature. I have replaced the centre screen with an Android one, which is awesome for Android Auto, but I think it might be too far away and out of my line of sight. I might add some gauges to it this weekend and just see. I guess if its just temp and oil pressure I can make them massive! 🤣
    • This is what the look like normally. Except we only got the 2 doors locally
    • Back pressure is not really a function of the exhaust itself, but the turbine/housing. So the question/point remains valid. I would be fitting an EMAP tapping point and seeing what is going on in the exhaust manifold before committing to throwing boost at it. Flow. No intercooler is actually rated for continuous operation at any power level wrt temperatures, as they are no actually capable of shifting the required amounts of heat on a continuous basis. They get hot during a pul, then dump some of that heat into the external air (and some back into the internal air) during off load moments/periods). You probaby do need a bigger core, given the power level you're already at is somewhat above the "rating" of the cooler. Put pressure tapping points either side of the core (which possibly you already have, if you have a boost source near the compressor outlet and tapping near the throttle for existing purposes) and report on delta P across the core.   I haven't done the mass flow calculation to see where you would be sitting on the compressor map at the ~450is rwkW level we're talking here, but if you look just at the PR you're running at, which is ~2.8-2.9, then you have a really really wide swath of the compressor map to run in, and so long as you were making between about 45-75 lb/min of flow, you should have really good comp efficiency, with the ideal being betweem 55 and 65. I can't see the need to shift drastically on the map to get better results.
    • Welcome 🙂 The ER34 wheels and slight lowering suit the R33 sedan really well. I'm firmly in the 'keep it stock, at least on the outside' camp.
