Strich9ine,

You should read the thread that HICKS started, I discussed this exact issue. When Barry is working he never picks up the phone, I've been there when it rings constantly and he never picks it up. I can get hold of him, but it's not worth pissing him off when he's busy. Can't you drop round and see him?

I could probably catch him after work if you want to find out how your car is going. Let me know what you want to find out and I'll see what I can do.

See'ya :burnout:

1.5 days thats not exactly alot. Its not like he just changing tyres or something liek that u have some pretty big problems and its under warranty so hes not exactly gonna rush it. i know it sucks but give it some time.

i am under the impression he is only fixing the electrical problems, and thus shouldnt take THAT long anyway. I don't know what he's been asked to fix by the dealer...

For all I know the car could come out of there just the speed sensor fixed 3 days later...

I just want to know what he is exactly doing with the car! and what he has been asked to look at...

strich9ine don't go getting your knickers in a knot over your car as he more than likely has others to look at before yours and it's only been a couple of days right ? A mate of mine had his car there for over a month so even if u don't get it back for another week, consider yourself lucky and stop whinging.

Guys i think we should ease up on Strich9nine a bit... he only just got his car and I am sure is quite protective of it... I have had mine for a year now and If i don't know EXACTLY what is being touched then NO ONE touches it!

I have never met Barry and have no quams with him however if a person is running a business then he should be catering for peoples needs such as anserwing the phone, if he is busy perhaps he should get just a temp receptionist to take calls and prob score him more businness.

Once again i have no quams with Barry i haven't even met him but yeah If strich9nine is worried bout his car and hasn't been notified what is going on I Too would be trying to get through!

Mayeb get gtstVspec to drop in if possible:) make sure you ask nicely and say please and thank you:D

Hi Guys,

I know Barry better than most, he knows his shit when it comes to computers/electrics/dyno's. He is always busy, so even if a car gets dropped off to him then it won't necessarily get looked at for a few days. Have you tried booking your car into any good place to get a computer installed, the waiting list can be weeks, I should know.

Barry works alone, he definately won't get a temp and won't answer the phone, it's just what you have to deal with. Just becuase it's a high priority for Strich9ine, doesn't bump it up on his list, I'm sure all the people he does work for want there cars back ASAP.

I can understand your frustration Strich9ine, I hate not know what is happening to my car, but as I said before, I can see Barry and see if he's started and what he has been told to fix.

See'ya :burnout:

PS. I think we should be careful not to get into the company bashing again, it certainly isn't Barry that is holding things up, he didn't ask for your car, you need to focus your frustration elsewhere. As far as he's concerned he isn't working for you, he's working for the dealer.

Your right it's not his fault he can't service his clients by picking up the phone.

what was I thinking ? silly me.

I have called 10+ times today, all at different times and NOTHING.

I'm not company bashing, I'm sharing my frustration at the subject at hand.

I know you don't want to hear this, but... for the love of god, don't jump around like a kid before christmas day and pull a gr33dy on him :P.

As for the other suggestions of more staff etc, I like that the workshop cause is modest looking and straight to the point. I like that theres no doofus staff to get in the way. I like that I speak directly to the person who'll be doing the work. And I like that fact Barrie is a tuning legend. Let the man work :)

Strich9ine,

If Barry picked up the phone everytime it rang then you wouldn't get your car for a month. Imagine he's in the middle of tuning your car on the dyno, do you want him to stop to answer a call. As I said before, the dealer is his client not you, therefore he may not be inclined to discuss much with you.

I understand your frustration, you want your car back, like we all would, but chill-out and don't let your frustration get taken out on the innocent.

Sorry, but that's not the way it's done in 99% of life. My Property, My wishes. He can't go and rip of my steering wheel because the "dealer" told him to ? It's MY car, and not the dealer's.

I'll f*ckin' go and colllect my car myself right now if that's the way it's gonna be.

:P

Strich9ine,

Sure you can go collect your car, but then the dealer will go to court and say he was having things fixed when you interveened. I'm not saying the Barry is doing anything bad to your car, but he is being paid by the dealer not you, therefore he will fix what the dealer wants and not you.

I think your starting to freak out a bit, things are being done to fix your car, interfering in that process won't speed things up, and would reflect badly on you if you had to go to court over it.

Strich9ine,

Dude, I understand your frustration, but I think it may be a bit misdirected.

Have a closer look at who is contracting Barries Dyno - the car dealer. They are responsible for the work being done to the car. It is more than likely that they took the car into barries without making an appointment, and just told him to look at it. Also very possible that several others have cars waiting to be done that have made appointments.

Perhaps get onto the car yard and insist on making a curteousy car available, see if that hurries things along

I know what its like to have your car sitting in a work shop for a couple of days. I usually ring a couple times a day just to see how things are going. I get paranoid that something has gone wrong, or they've found something terribly wrong with it.

But don't worry, im sure you'll have it back soon.

Kym i'm locking this baby before you get yourself into trouble.

Start as many threads as you want about the problems with your car, but any hint at company bashing and i'll shut it.

look the guy has a business to run, by the sounds of it hes a busy fella. so if your car isn't first in line wait why should somebody whos car has been there 2 or 3 days wait cause ur car just showed up.

your getting warrenty work done, thats the dealers responsability so he is working for the dealer. if you don't like that go through the dealer and have him get another shop to do the work.

you've only brought this on yourself for being impatient mate, this is contructive critisim so take it as such. you shouldn't have told the dealer you took it to the drags and not knowing what the exact problem with it was you shouldn't have run it at the plex till it was sorted.

i know you just want your car back asap and working 100% but upsetting tuners etc want help. Perth is a small place and most tuners know each other and they know whos been bagging them and who hasn't. If you don't want to get a bad rep with them stop shooting your mouth off and be patient and not so easy to fly off the handle.

    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
    • No those pads are DBA too  but they have colors too. I look at the and imo the green "street" are the best.

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
