hey guys

i just got back from wakefield where Autosalon magazine held its time trials and brake tests for street car of the year.

started at 6:30am at MC Racing in bankstown

brian entered his black MY03 WRX(MR WRX) and daniel entered his black wide body MY01 WRX STi(DIABOLO)

the other enterants were

TOF-55T yellow autostyle 620kw R32 GTR

Silver R34 GTR some Nismo tune thingy from autostyle

NSX GT red wide body Honda NSX from j racing

DAMN Orange Toyota Supra

JR 101 red widebody S15 from j racing

BOZMAN Bachir Osmans airbrushed MY03/04 WRX STi

White S14

Blue S14

Blue MX-5

MR WRX suffered a gearbox failure early destroying 3rd 4th and 5th and had to retire

DIABOLO was having some issues with over heating by the end of the day but managed to complete all the events

DAMN had a dead alternator and also completed the day

time attack results werent realeased for some stupid reason but the autostyle boys had a good old whinge and tried to justify why they werent performing.

in th go to woah the osman brothers came out on top with their standard STi setup while everyone else had no chance

and once agin the autostyle boys had to make a big fuss because thier big dollar cars werent performing.

i have never met a bigger bunch of babies in my whole life.

it was a good day all in all but diving home in second gear was painful.

dyno is tomoro along with the engineers inspection

then the 1/4 mile times will be taken from results at Drag Combat on Sunday.

it was a laugh the excuses were the best part though and the autostyle guys killed it

its like a little spoilt kid having a tantrum when he doesnt get his way lol

if brians MR WRX held together it would have pulled a 1.04

but stupid gearbox dude made the billet input shaft dodgy and it didnt sit right so bye bye mainshaft :D

The Supra had a failed alternator - so basically they charged up the battery and he got a warm up lap, a flying lap and a cool down lap and that's it.

So to do a 1.09 in one shot given he's never been there before is impressive IMO.

Apparently the Autostyle GTR ran a 1.08.

Anyone know times from the rest of the weekend? Drag Combat for these cars?

Goes to show alot of these are just Show cars if they manage to have so many issues on one day. All well and good having a good looking car, but if it can't complete a few simple tests then there not really Street Cars:D

just to clarify MR WRX has had over 100 runs at WSID and is driven everyday

the reason the gearbox failed was due to a dodgy billet rear input shaft

which wasnt made to the exact clearances that were needed

its a real 10 second street car and driving it along you would not pick

it its one of the most comfortable, smooth cars ive been in

and the way brian punishes it all day everyday i am shocked that it lasted this long

diablo is also very smooth and easily street driven he regularly drives it from canberra to sydney and has no problems with it

the reason it failed was because of using a copper head gasket

    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
