I'm 16 and have always been a skyline enthusiast.

i had been telling my dad that the skyline is the car for me, but he did not approve because they come stock turbo. :werd:

Recently my dad's freind knew of this guy that imports cars from japan to Australia and recently brought one in.

For a price of 14,000 my dad and i went to check it out.

when we got there we popd the hood then had a look at the registration.

it said " Nissan Skyline r33.:"

it is not turbo and i cannot find if its a gts, or whatever. all it has is a gt at the sides and an "s" at the front.

its a twin cam 24 valve non turbo skyline.

to me, ive never heard of just a Nissan skyline r33.

its a 1995 model.

ive never heard of just a nissan skyline r33 gt

please give your thourghts on what it is? :confused:

it may not have turbo but i blown away by the amount of take of acceleration it has.

check the blue plate in the back left hand corner. a non turbo will say where the engine is RB25DE. a turbo will say RB25DET. Thats how you can tell, if not check the in side dash, if it has a built in boost guage where the rpm tacho is.

these are just some ways that you can tell

Take care it isn't a GTS, those have the SOHC 2.0L engine - will have for the engine designation RB20E on the firewall plate if it is. They are 'somewhat' underpowered....

Most likely it is a GTS25, as mentioned that will have RB25DE on the firewall plate. 200HP from the NA 2.5 means they are fairly quick.....

ok the plate is on the firewall most usually on the left side.

the firewall is at the back of the engine, the wall that seperates the engine from the cabin.

NA means Naturally Aspirated, which means non-turbo.

Hope that clears up some confusion

I've got a Rb20E mate and theyre not that bad, good car to learn on, still pisses on lancers and shit like that, so i wouldnt worry too much if thats what it is, rb25's are good motors, and by the sounds of the 24valve it sounds like one!

Goodluck, and lets hope its a good car!

It should also say on the compliance plate which is a green plate mines on top of the strut tower, and it'll say what make it is and who its complianced by and the date!

That's left hand side as you look from the front of the car toward the back of the engine bay. Just to the left of the brake master cylinder.

24 valve - yup, that would indicate a RB25DE (GTS25) as I think the RB20E (GTS) is 12 valve due to the SOHC head?

Dayne - yup, GTS's are still better than a lot of cars out there! Just be sure that you don't pay a premium for one. In NZ the GTSs are significantly cheaper (and thus far more common) than the GTS25s.

The GT badge on the side of the car has nothing to do with the cars motor. It is just the famous GT badge associated with Skylines.

In the R33 range as said earlier:

GTS = 2lt Non turbo.

GTS25 = 2.5lt Non turbo

GTS25T = 2.5lt Single turbo

GTS4 = 2.5lt Single turbo or NA + 4wd

GTR = 2.6lt Twin Turbo 4wd

All very good cars. Not a fan of non turbo Skylines though as I think it defeats the point.

I know that coment will cause some tension. i might just run and hide under my turbo...

Got mine at a good price anyways:) considering upgrading to RB20det in it this holidays though.. or 25DE

thats like saying getting a standard commodore without a supercharger defeats the point.

I have never heard of an R33 GTS4 Turbo, all the 33 GTS4's I've seen have been NA

The only other single turbo GTS4 I've seen is an R32 GTS4.

and before someone makes a smart arsed comment, GTR's with single turbo conversions dont count :(;)

    • Before starting any work, we attempted to adjust the tune. However even after adjusting it to certain extremes like completely stopping fuel, it had no effect. What fixed it was removing the Nistune Board and installing the original EPROM instead. This immediately fixed the issue. Everything should have been fine with the Nistune Board installation, so I am unsure why it has caused a problem. The soldered connector is also properly soldered. This worked when I first got the 550cc injectors, before cleaning, but that may have been a coincidence.  We ended up not installing the fuel pump hanger (at least for now). So currently running stock injectors, stock fuel pump, stock fuel pump hanger – Well everything stock except the exhaust. Now I have around €1400 in Nistune, Injectors, and Hanger collecting dust for the time being, perhaps I'll install them in the future. For now I'll enjoy the car as is 😁 Thanks a lot for all your assistance, I really appreciate all the help you have given me.
    • The turbo can’t be the issue. They’re proven to make much much power than you’re making. There is something in the setup that isn’t correct. - has the exhaust got any silly step downs? - what exhaust manifold?
    • Ok, just the way you wrote it made it look like you had the stagger the wrong way around 
    • I was getting anxious with the DVLA not knowing if the paperwork is fine or not, so I rang them. No update had been given, but I  was reassured that providing the box was ticked on the V750 then the application will go through fine. I've been checking the DVLA website pretty much every day, in the hope that it would have been done. Fast forward to Monday 29th  and I was greeted with a new screen on the check, and it finally showed as Taxed and MOT'd, woohoo! The car was in desperate need of a clean, not knowing when this day was coming it was put off. As far as I was concerned I had another 3 weeks  I'm not normally one for using snow foam, but I wanted to give it another try It hasn't cleaned up too bad considering it's 21 years old and lived on a boat for a number of weeks. The personalised number plate is J2 XBK, an illegally spaced number plate would have it read J2X BK. BK could either represent  the colour black or Baker, which is my surname. I filmed the first drive, the Youtube link will be at the end.
