Hi ppl, my first post on these forums, hopefully many more to come.

I've owned an S13 K for 5 years now, and am trading in it and another S13 for a R32 GT-R, shopping for one at the moment.

Rezz, I've been pointed in your direction as a possible source for info on the factory nismo R32 GT-R's - by a fellow member (Brendan).

Any info you can offer on this model, i.e. over the standard R32 GT-R, would be VERY VERY much appreciated. I will be looking at and probably driving the car tomorrow. Said car is at www.streetmachines.com.au, you can see it on their "cars for sale" pages.

I'll be going over the thing with a fine tooth-comb, but being new to GT-Rs and remembering just how little I knew about Silvias when I bought one - I am seeking any info, advice that I can find.

Of course, if anyone else is familiar with these babies please give me some help :D

Cheers guys,

Andrew

EDIT: 1989 model, btw... :)

Andrew, i used to live in brissy and i haven't heard anything positive about that car yard. Go over the thing with the finest toothed comb you can find. Good luck!

Well, I did buy my '93 Silvia K from there. Had it five years, and very happy with it. I do KNOW they are on the expensive side, but they do have great cars there, seemingly consistently - at least when I visit anyway. Don't worry, I've got a few yards on my test drive itinerary (no joke, I have an itinerary and list of checks for each car!) for tomorrow. I'll be making them do battle for my business ;)

I agree, I've heard bad things, but not about the cars - have you? I know they'll try to rip ya, but that's okay, "no" is a simple defence against that. Have you heard anything nasty about their machinery/service?

The allure of the Nismo factory is not something that will bite me too bad, unless it's got N1 turbos and big squirters and a modded ECU. If that's the case, I might just be smitten. I don't like the grey too much though :D

Thanks mate,

Andrew

EDIT: Not grey, silver :D

Ok, here are the things that make a GT-R Nismo what it is:

Metal turbines in the turbo

No intercooler grill

twin air intakes either side of the front number plate

boot lid lip spoiler

no aircon

no stereo

no ABS

no rear wiper

revised projector headlights

Nismo sticker on boot lid ;)

Unlike the regular GT-R's, the Nismo models were only available in Gun Grey Metallic paint (KH2), and they were the lightest of the BNR32's weighing in at a clean 1400kg. Only 500 were made, starting production on the 22nd February 1990 and ending on the 11th March 1990. Everything else is pretty much the same as the regular GT-R.

I don't have to tell you that the car in the pics above is SILVER, so unless the car wasn't looked after or had crash damage at some stage and thus entirely repainted, it probably isn't a genuine Nismo GT-R. In fact, I can see from the interior pic that that car has climate control aircon, so it's a safe bet that it isn't genuine. Nismo GT-R's are pretty sought after, I find it hard to believe that someone would retro-fit aircon and respray the thing silver... I hope this info helps.

Rezz, that's GOLD!!! And timing is great, I'm going tomorrow (about 10 hrs time, assuming I can stop surfing and actually sleep sometime soon). I've been dreaming (ok, almost wet-dreaming) about a GT-R for YEARS now, and it's so close it's actually messing with my head! Bizarre...

Thanks v much, I can verify it's authenticity to an extent, and stun them with my (your) knowledge at the same time .... heheh

Thanks again, ur a ledge...

Andrew

Attached is another propective car. Is this the gunmetal color you speak of? It's not NISMO, not purported to be nismo. It's an '89. Has V-Spec 324mm brakes (and 300 rears it looks, will check tomorrow), and a tube-fin FMIC. Concern is the 310km/h speedo, so the ODO obviously can't be trusted (if it ever could be). I have to go hard on the mech/condition checks to "guess" the mileage. I've seen it in the flesh and I loved it (salivated is the word), will drive it tomorrow.

No worries Andrew, I'm glad I could help ;)

Heres a KH2 Gun Grey metallic R32 GT-R in broad daylight, but the pic you posted looks a little dark? Could just be the time of day the pic was taken but yeah, by all means check out the other GT-R, it sure sounds like your hungry for some ATESSA RB26DETT goodness :jump:

Yep, same color, shitty photo (mine).

Heheh thanks I now have full size photo quality print of a true nismo colour :D

And hungry? Ain't the word. So STARVING it's a little scary, I'm 29 not 18! But, it's all good - that's why we do it innit? :D

Still, I'm a responsive kinda guy - just ask my girlfriend... hahaha roflol

Kid in a candy store,

Andrew

Went and saw this "factory nismo" car today. Apart from the greasy feeling from the sales guys, I found this:

Black engine bay, and silver body. The rocker cover was nismo-convincing, with the red n black rocker and silver/metal coil-pack cover. The thing has full factory climate control, factory stereo, and the front spoiler was a bit loose, like it had been smacked. That and the price of the car being same as standard with same kms, coupled with the guys being obnoxious, completely turned me off.

The guys said they made these cars in black. The factory plate was gone, just holes where is was, painted over. Dodgyyyy is my feeling :D I walked away.

Attached is pic (crappy, from my Nokia 6230) of the missing compliance plate.

The front spoiler was loose also, visible gap between the spolier and the guard.

I've also attached pics of the car I've put a deposit on. I have a few Qs about this car, which I'll be posting up with info on it...

Thanks for your help Rezz,

Andrew

EDIT: Couple of R32 GT-R Q's, and info on the car I'm buying...

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...133#post1416133

hey,

I've got a nismo r32gtr and there seems to be some shit being flown around about the differences.

If climate control and stereo didn't come with them then i've got it. I've got the blue plate and i've checked the vin and it all checks out. i've got the nismo spoiler the oblong sticker underneath the spoiler. the nismo edition obviously came with the kit with side skirts that hug the rear wheel, bonnet lip and front lip. i do not have abs brakes and it came with a bigger standard intercooler. the turbs are meant to have steel wheel but not bb however i haven't taken out my turbs to confirm this.

nOOSE

Sorry, I messed that post up. Let me clarify - I walked away from the Nismo. I don't believe it's the real thing, only reason.

The car I put a deposit on is a standard R32, very clean, very stock. Only thing left to check is compression.

Speaking of which, anyone know off hand what the acceptable range is?

Andrew

EDIT: found that - 171psi standard or 128 worst (shit that's low!)

i thought the N1 GT-R was the one with out all the a/c abs stereo ect and the nismo edition had all the bar vents, bonnet/boot lip, steel turbines ect..

Actually, the N1 version *was* just like a Nismo GT-R, but only available in Crystal White (326) with the N1 headlights (non-projector), upgraded engine cooling system and upgraded brake system (brake lines, booster etc for more stopping power) for the N1 endurance race series. Aparently all that accounted for an extra 50kgs to bring the total weight up to 1450kg for the original batch of R32 GT-R N1's. The Nismo versions on the other hand were for Group A Turing Car homologation only... hence why we didn't see a factory R33 Nismo version. The Group A cars were completely stripped and rebuilt, not needing stronger factory internals like the N1s, whereas the N1 cars were virtually run 'as is' in competition.

The thing you have to remember about the N1 versions is that they had to be registered with the JAF and sold through the dealership like a regular GT-R, even though they were sold for racing use mainly. 500 had to be sold in order for the N1 to be eligable for the N1 Endurance race series. Just an extra 145,000 yen would net you aircon, audio, rear wiper etc with a standard GT-R, so the appeal of an N1 for street use was limited to say the least.

Here are a couple of shots of the Nismo interior sans aircon and audio, and the part of the article where it states the Nismo came without rear wiper, ABS etc:

Hey Rezz, any chance of posting some hi res versions of the article/brochure up in you photos section?

Here's something interesting (to me at least).

Let me clarify first I have walked from what I myself personally believe to be fake Nismo GT-R.

Anyway,

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ead.php?t=77434

This is the car I am now buying, kitted out to look just like a factory NISMO; not purported to be one.

Now, the boot lid has a vaguely noticeable oval indentation in the paint, exactly where the NISMO badge is on the back of the car you posted a pic of (Rezz).

Interesting - perfect Nismo kit, now evidence of a nismo badge. I'll have to check under the spoiler I guess...

Believe it or not, those pics above are the bulk of the Nismo GT-R 'article'. Theres a full size side-on shot of the Nismo GT-R, but alot of the info I got was from a comparison chart of all the GT-R's together with all the associated specs and sizes etc. Other than that, not much. It's in the 'GT-R Memorial' book which I think quite a few members have on these forums.

    • My experience with Rising Sun Exports Before agreeing to the sale I tried to do as much research as I could (obviously), his Facebook reviews are 98% and he goes Live at least once or twice a week. I contacted 2 people in the UK who had used him for their imports, both had positive feedback. His explanation and talk through of the import process was thorough, answering any query no matter how stupid it was. It felt as soon as the money was sent, communication dropped off. I asked for shipping updates every 2 weeks or so, not wanting to pester him, he never had any updates. I wasn't informed the car had been dropped off at the port, I only found out by his Facebook story. I asked for the photos taken at the port, knowing he would need some for insurance purposes. I received a few 5 second clips and that's it. When asked again, he said his staff had them. Weeks later I asked again, he tells me he doesn't have any, but does have 50 photos from the original advert. I never received them. I eventually got the documents sent via WhatsApp after I mentioned the port was requesting them. I purchased a CarVX report, to find out the vehicle is a Grade R with recorded accident damage, first recorded in 2017 when it was first auctioned. He never told me the grade, then again I didn't ask. His response was "Grade R means nothing, it wasn't chassis damage". Still, I would have liked to have been informed about it. Jon prides himself on being open and honest when it comes to inspecting cars, it's his main job doing so at the auctions for customers. When the vehicle arrived in the UK I noticed a few little cosmetic issues. It's a 21 year old car so it wasn't going to be mint condition. The side skirts are cracked on each corner and the sealant is failing. The front grill on the bonnet/hood isn't secured very well, mounting studs are missing. Both minor things, but again, it would have been nice to be told. During a Facebook Live walk around video of the vehicle, he mentioned it has a front Whiteline anti roll bar/sway bar. While on the inspection ramp, I noticed the stock item has been installed. When first questioned, his response was "the ARB? Switched? Since when, it never had them". Since sending video and photo evidence I've not received a response. I'm probably being over critical of the overall condition of an old car, but all I wanted was honesty (which he claims to have). I'm aware I wasn't his only customer, he's busy doing XYZ but other reviews praise him for great communication with regular updates and photos, I felt I didn't receive the same treatment.
    • I was able to get some underside photos while the car was on the ramp The suspension is all Altezza/IS200/IS300 so getting part's will hopefully be less of a headache
    • Welcome to my 2004 Toyota Mark ii IR-V Fortuna (series 2) With a 1JZ-GTE powerplant under the bonnet (hood) it'll give me plenty of scope for power upgrades. For those who aren't familiar with imports, the 1JZ-GTE is a 2.5L 6 cylinder VVTi engine with a single turbocharger. This has the factory R154 5 speed gearbox, along with a aftermarket 2 way LSD differential (brand unknown). Under the arches are a set of CST Zero 1 alloys, 18x9 +30 225/40 up front and 18x9.5 +15 265/35 on the rear. The car was quite low in Japan and there's evidence of the wheels catching the rolled arches/fenders. The tyre's aren't great so I'm in two minds whether to replace both or just the tyres and put up with the wider wheels on the rear. The car still uses stock brakes with the addition of some braided hoses. The exterior is stock with the exception of a BN Sports front bumper and a replacement Fortuna grill  Moving to the interior, the steering wheel has been replaced with a dished MOMO steering wheel (which will get swapped for my Momo Tuner for the time being) Defi Link Gauges are mounted above the climate controls and on the A pillar, the Oil Temp,Oil Pressure,Water Temp and Boost gauges should help with spirited and track driving  The stock seats have been replaced with some retrimmed Recaro bucket seats. Being a larger build these are a little snug, unfortunately the orange isn't for me so I'll look into replacing these down the line. Other modifications include a twin plate clutch, Blitz intercooler, Evolve alloy radiator, a stainless exhaust with decat, HKS EVC-S boost controller and coil overs
    • Apologies for the long read My R34 GTT was up for sale at the beginning of spring due to a few repairs creeping up. The strut tops needed replacing, roof and bonnet (hood) painting (yay for 3 stage pearl) and the underside stripped and treated. I sold the car which allowed me to be in a much better place financially. Leading up to the sale I was already thinking about the replacement. In an ideal world it needed to be a good all-rounder. Something I can mess around with, modify, do track days, do the school run, go on long drives etc.  Options included but not limited to... Laurel C35, Evo 8/9, Civic FD2, Impreza Hawkeye, Aristo and even an Audi S4 Avant (I've already got the Mazda 6 wagon). But there was always one car at the top of the list The Toyota Mark ii JZX110 I found an advert on a Facebook group for an example in Japan, from a seller called Jon at Rising Sun Exports. A few messages back and forth and Jon calls me from Yokohama one morning (or afternoon in his case). He briefly explained the import process, the costs involved and a repeat of the advert. After much deliberation, the price was agreed and the sale was locked in. I've never imported a vehicle so I jumped into the unknown head first. The money transfer was completed through wise.com (fees apply), very easy to use and the money was with him within a day or two.  The car suspension was raised for the vessel and the car dropped off at the port. It was 7 weeks later when the bill of lading was received and the freight invoice sent to me, followed by the export certificate a couple of days after (both digital copies) In the mean time the port had been in contact. I needed an agent to deal with the NOVA (notification of vehicle arrival) along with the tax/duty invoice, this was £75.00. The port also had a fee of £100, I'm guessing to cover the cost of the 10 day 'free storage' and for moving the car off the boat etc. They need a copy of the vehicle invoice, freight invoice and export certificate to allow the vehicle to pass through customs. The vessel arrived on Tuesday 5th August, the tax/duty invoice was generated and sent over. This is generally tax 20% and duty 10% of the vehicle value. Although the invoice came in at a higher amount than I had calculated. Once HMRC had received the payment the vehicle could be released from customs. I thought once the tax/duty was paid you could collect at any point, that's not the case. Your agent will need to book a collection slot, I requested Thursday 7th which was accepted, with a 9:00am slot allocated. It was a 5:00am start from Norfolk heading to Southampton. We eventually found the compound, upon presenting the bill of lading and some ID they released the car (they drove it out of the compound to the front ready for us to load up). The email from the port stated each slot had a 10 minute window, which seemed abit farfetched but the staff said it's not a strict rule. We were there for approx. 30-40 mins in total. A week prior to collecting I contacted my garage and explained the situation, I was able to get an inspection slot that afternoon. For the registration, DVLA require the car to be insured, for this I used a company called Adrian Flux who can insure the vehicle using the VIN number.
