Just finished watching a friends tape of a recent MG Car club event held about 1hr north of Newcastle.

The first thing i thought of when watching the tape was how perfect the circuit would be for drift. All 1st & 2nd gear corners, with one corner about 80kms so maybe even a bit of 3rd gear drift. Similar layouts to the Jap drift circuits you see on video.

I dont know about insurance etc, but friends uncle is the president of the club so can easily get the information.

So what would be the interest level in hiring the circuit one Saturday, drive up Friday night, and back on Sunday. Maybe say around April when the weather starts to cool down a little.

Me im not a huge fan of drift, mainly because i cant, but im sure ill have fun trying.

My main concern is the type of track surface, it looks pretty abrasive on the video, but can easily find out.

Will talk to friends uncle after gauging interest. The guys a champion bloke, and likely run off and organise the whole thing after only mentioning it, so would like to know if the idea holds water.

Good stuff, they're considering making this into a full permanent circuit (!! back to 4 circuits in NSW).

I'll be in with bells on.

Also, if there's a big group, we part own a hotel in cessnock, so we can get accomodation for the weekend for about $70. (And plenty of parking, damn, tar is expensive)

It seems that everything in this world is better tight... !

April is no good though as I'll be in Canada for most of it!

Duncan,

I dont know what we have to do to make it happen, but I am very interested. As fatz said, food, drink and drive fast, im in. We may even have time to do a bit of a cruze around some of the other nice spots in that area. WINE! WINE! WINE!

Roy, plenty on interest, lets find out a date around march where they are available and get organising.

If we stay away from first weekend in month (8-9/3, 5-6/4) and easter (19-21/4), I can probably get that accomodation for up to 70ppl.

Cruise up Fri night, wine on Sat, drift on Sun:uh-huh:

YA MAMMA,

Duncan... that sounds like the plan.

I'll have one of those rooms for $70 a night.

Lets pick a date soon.

I spoke to roy the other day and he said that we may need some sort of insurance? I thought that this could possible be indemnity insurance?

Deano,

Do we have any insurance like this with the club?

Hang for this one... will go down well with the missus too as she can go wine tasting on the Sunday too if she wants!!!

How did I miss this thread? I'm there!

Not the Sky Chardonnay is it Duncan? :uhh:

So where is the circuit? 1 hour north of Newcastle is a LONG way from Cessnock. Is it the one up near Mangrove Mt.?

We will have to investigate insurance for the event if SAU is going to organise it. AFAIK CAMS will not do it because it would not be a CAMS sanctioned track (maybe by then, but who knows???...) Worth looking at.

April is good for me. I've got hols starting the 24th. :)

DIno :)

    • A few little updates that weren't filmed due to not taking long to do or not interesting enough for their own video. My new K&N Air Filter arrived, I went with an RU-4180 which matched the dimensions of the universal cone filter the car originally had.  The battery had gone flat, while that was charging I tidied up the spaghetti wiring at the bulk head and down the sides of the engine Next job was to swap the stereo The Kenwood harness had the female ISO plugs cut off and the male ISO plugs cut off the adaptor loom and joined with bullet connectors. I ordered in a repair loom through work and re-did it all. New Kenwood unit installed (Android Auto, DAB, Bluetooth, Reverse Camera) The bonnet/hood gas struts have been poor since collecting the car. I couldn't find any suitable replacements locally so took a chance on a pair from AliExpress.  The originals don't use a retaining clip to secure the cup onto the ball fixture, would explain why I struggled for 10-15mins trying to pry off the cups. The ball fixtures unscrew using a 12mm spanner, new ones are the same size. Sadly no photo of them fitted, you're not missing much lol The dished Momo steering wheel got replaced with my Momo Tuner, turns out I ordered counter sunk bolts for the horn trim ring (like they normally are for the steering wheel) instead of allen cap (flat seat)  A terrible photo of a Quaife style gear shift knob I've had stashed in my tool box for many years after purchasing the incorrect thread size (I can see a pattern emerging with ordering incorrect parts...) Also threw in a cup holder and a (empty) Boss Coffee can, because why not
    • GT-R clearly the better choice! The 300 is certainly not insaly fast but has a decent amount of poke. Does a nice little drift around the corners with a decent amount of throttle. It's VERY predictable in a slide too.  Feels so progressive! People probably presume there's a 25 year old driving it based on my behaviour this week! 🤣
    • Yeah Jap import. Fairlady Z then! I'm a bit the same.  They've been on my radar for a fair while but then just impulsively decided to buy one!  Was going to just buy an NA and add turbos to it later but decided to save the f'ing around and just buy the turbo version.
    • Thanks mate, well done to you too! Yeah not looking forward to doing any major work to it!
