I am checking out a few things for a friend and came across a car yard in Perth Auto Japan - my question is has anyone bought cars from them and what sort of quality are they the main reason for asking is that there prices are quiet good and I am a firm believer you get what you pay for....

When I compared there prices to say John Hughes there seems to be a big difference in cost

Tell them to check out Autoworx in Wangara, some very nice cars there & are pretty cheap at the moment too. With John Hughes, all of their cars are grade 4 I believe, they only have the top quality ones there.

Way too expensive though, I imported a car that probably would have been grade 4 for under 17k, and they sell slightly older cars than that for 6k more. Err, no thanks John ya twat.

John Hughes aside you get what you paid for at most dealers, if the dealer is a RAW you will always get a better price.

On any car over $10,000 ask for a auction report or get a RAC inspection on the car and especially the structural integrity as I see what come in at the docks and their can be a big difference.

I think auto japan and the place in leederville is overpriced, auto japan is just down the road and i check it out often. There's a couple of ca18 sils for over $10k, an 89 32 unlicenced for $12k.

If you want a 32 contact me :)

I bought my R33 from Down Under Autos on Oxford Street, Leederville, in Jan 2003. They were very good to deal with and gave me a good deal. I have continued to use them for service since and they have always looked after me. Both the guy at the yard and the guy at the service garage have always been happy to talk to me and answer my stupid questions. They are also quite prepared to recommend other places for work that they don't do. Of particular interest is that they are a licensed RAW and they are also an RAC registered dealer - which means that all of their cars get RAC checks and the RAC also checks out various aspects of their quality management.

I am sure there are other good ones around too, but I received good service from these guys and will definitely talk to them when I am looking for a replacement.

As for John Hughes, they were very slick salesman and had some nice cars. Their asking prices were high, but they were prepared to move. I reckon I could have got a reasonable deal off them, but they did not have a Series II when I was looking. Overal, I reckon they would have ended up about $2k - $3k higher. Whether you get any more for that difference is your own judgment.

Cheers. :P

pfft thats when everything in the car u bought have no faults wats so ever, once something goes wrong (and get this, while still under warranty) the warranty covers and does f**k all!!! Thats the thing u gotta look out for with this place, their phucked up so call warranty. i.e. doesn't cover any leaks wats so ever let it be water or oil. :cuss:

but the guys at their service depot is alright like u said.

Used car warranties never offer much protection, except against major mechanical failure. I am sure that you would have found the same with any used car yard. Persuading a customer who is convinced that they are covered, when in fact they are not, is a hard job. The measure of the yard is probably how well they deal with that and how prepared they are to give a little in the grey areas. But don't expect any used car yard to give away much - they are not reknowned for their charity work!

Cheers.

    • HFM BM57 has a "bad" knee point, IIRC. It's not the same thing as the later R chassis MC.
    • The ATTESSA is functionally identical to R34; there were a bunch of JDM models that continued ATTESSA including Fuga/Q70, Skyline/Q50, Cima etc as an option. All with Auto only and I think mostly for snow regions. AFAIK there were no AWD VR30DDTT sold in Australia - it is on my to do list to check regs for racing a LHD car in Targa/ATR/AASA/CAMS events because if I can get the auto to work it would be interesting to run a 4wd car The Ecuteck TCM tuning is the same model as their ECU tuning, they already have it for R35 and Dose's favourite, BMW. You buy "points" to allow your computer to be tuned, buy either a bluetooth (phone app) or bluetooth+USB+Key (phone and PC) dongle, and pay for a tune that will be locked to your tuner ( ). You can also access the tuning software yourself but 1. it is mega expensive and 2. these computers have a billion parameters that intersect, so how could you ever spend enough time on it to get a decent result.
    • Or, is it a case of what it is like owning an R series Skyline? NFI what the previous owner has done or fiddled with... Ha ha ha After reading through this thread, I went on a bit of a research about the Q50/Q60. Now I'm quite intrigued by them! Is the AWD in them more like a WRX where it's always AWD, or is it more like the ATTESSA in the GTRs? By the sound of this TCU tuning, this sounds like a case of someone has made some real software for it, and you just need the right piece of hardware, and then you license that specific vehicle/TCU. Or is this a case of the software will be really expensive so only a few tuners have it, and you still have to pay a license per vehicle?
    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
    • No, code 21 is very straightforward. It can only be the things described in that diagnostic flow. In fact it has no way of knowing that the spark plug resistance is out of spec.
