Hi Everyone,

I am in the process of buying a R33 S1 or S2 and I am told different power figures that a stock R33 would have. I know that they have 187Kw at the fly and supposedly they lose 18% through the drivetrain which means they should be making 153rwKW.

Then again, some say they have about 120-130rwKW.

If anyone could shed some light on this matter it would be most appreciated as I do not want to buy a lemon....lol

Thanks Heaps.

I think the losses run closer to 30% so 120-130 rwkw sounds about right.

Thanks alot, B0oStEr, for the info.

Other, views or personal testemonies (ie. dyno results) will be very helpfull and most appreciated.

I think our first result was 148kw with with aftermarket panel filter and 3 inch exhaust.

The 120-130 ish does seem about it standard.

What type of exhaust and was it a full/cat-back? On what, if any, boost and what type of boost contoller?

thanks heaps.

Nabil,

Now you have jogged the memory a bit (getting old you see).

The exhaust was custom from dump pipe back and I think we had the bleed valve then at about 10 pounds.

*edit* No exhaust as posted below

OK. I have been corrected by my Wife.

When we got 148kw it was with the stock exhaust.

We did have the panel filter and more boost.

It was on a dyno day using shootout mode on a dyno dynamics.

G'day el bee....nothin like confirming things with the good wife.....its amazing what they remember (anniversaries, power outputs etc). See you at WSID next Sunday....hope to meet and say g'day.

Gday Paul, yes it is amazing what they do remember.

My Wife is the oricle of all things memory, especially to do with our Skyline, in this household.

The good thing is she does know "shit from clay" as they say.

I'll see you Sunday. Unfortunately Genelle won't make it this year.

Enjoy!

ps. Increasing boost does increase power for sure but you can go too far and easily get into the "rich and retard zone" with the stock ECU.

Have done this before. And last time on a dyno the guy turned the boost down from 14 to 10 and got rid of an ugly dip in power where the ECU was having kittens.

Will have to get an aftermarket ECU very soon. (not before drag day unfortunately)

I thought that the Japanese giants all agreed to limit at 140kw? that is why it is soo easy to get more outa these beasties they're just detuned (small air in small exhaust out) to a limit to meet certain standards.

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
