Goddammit, I nearly got killed this morning on the way to work by one of those massive heavy-haulage support trucks that ran a red light.

Was sitting at the lights on Karel Ave, waiting to turn left onto Leach Hwy. Our lights went green and I was about to drive off when one of those huge trucks that can carry containers etc. comes thundering past (on Leach Hwy) about two metres in front of me. I slam on the brakes and about another one or two seconds later the little support truck with the "wide load" signs and amber flashing lights zooms past. Mother Fuc*er!!! Their lights turned red about 5 seconds ago!! Had I taken off in a more spirited manner, I would have been history. Have these guys got no brains at all ? They weren't even carrying a load, so they could quite easily have stopped but instead they decided to just treat red lights as "traffic suggestions" and run straight through them. To make matters worse, I followed them down Leach (I was heading to the Freeway on-ramp) and the same pair of trucks ran another set of reds near the freeway bridge. Where are the cops when you need them! (too busy giving out speeding tickets to people going 65 in 60 zones I guess).

 GRRRRRR!!!

Some truck drivers are just pr##ks. They think they can break the law coz us little cars will get out of their way. I was driving behind a tanker who was going slow so when we got to a 2 lane round about and he moved to the outside lane I went to go through on the inside lane as you do. Just as I'm nearing the middle of the round about he decides he's going to cut through and take up both lanes! This is while I'm right next to the middle of the truck! It was lock up the brakes and go up the gutter on the round about or get squashed under the trailer. Guess which option I took? Man I was p##sed.

Some might say 'well trucks need more room to get through there'. Not true. They can take round abouts in one lane but they have to go a bit slower than normal just like you and I. If they can't fit on a normal road they shouldn't be registered to drive on it. I can fly through a round about if I don't stay in my lane.

Anyway, I know I shouldn't have but I had to get in front of him and slam my brakes on then take off. Then some tool in a new Falcon comes flying up my ass and I'm thinking 'great here come the cops and they only saw what I did'. But this guy just sits right on my ass. I was a bit nervous thinking 'what the...' so I was speeding up looking in my rear view mirror. Then a corner which I was going about 40k over the recommended speed comes up while I'm looking in the rear view and I get some nice screechy fishy action around the corner. I look in the rear view and this guys laughing! This is while there is an overtaking lane and he's still right on my tail. I put my hand out the window and (wait for it) waved him past. How much restraint did that take? Don't ask. He drives past and shakes his hand in a wanker motion?!? What is wrong with these people? The only thing I can think of is he didn't see the truck nearly squash me he only saw me cut off the truck and take off. The truck and him both had VIC number plates (this was in NSW) so I guess they were on the same team in his books : )

Ok, that's my rant for the day.

Heya Joe!

Nah I'm back dude! Was only there for a week.... My bro took a couple of pics of 1 skyline and that was about it... Had the bonnet that I'm chasing and the rear wing I was after... to tell you the truth i didn't see many skylines there.... i saw a couple that I have seen from the forums and i went to check out a cruise one night but only about 3 or 4 skylines were there... They were friendly people though and willing to have a good chat about sydney and their cars...

Sydney i don't think is the place for me... the highway tolls really piss me off!! $2.20 everytime you go on a highway, even with the tolls the road quality is quite bad in some places... Bondi is awesome there with many topless bathers :-) There are lots of done up cars in sydney but not many head turmers just lots of old cars with rice really.... then again was NYE so maybe the awesome cars were sleeping!

Just so i don't hi jack the thread with my holiday expeditions i will tell you something that is related to the thread, Truck drivers and drivers in general in sydney in my eyes were really bad! sooo many times people would nearly smack into you or take up 2 lanes when turning.. an asian lady in her BMW nearly smacked into our car coz she didn't check her blind spot! she then proceeeded to give us the finger! not a good idea when my friend who was driving was previosuly in one of australias nationals boxing championships! i don't think she will do it again though:uh-huh:

Azazel: ahh know u prolly dont wanna hear it but what did u expect? ya know that litle red and yellow thing on the tailgate? the one that sez "do not overtake while turning" i think its just common sense to give trucks a more than wide berth in corners and braking situations. Running red lights is sometimes unavoidable but they are supposed to be driving on truck routes that are designed to have longer oranges.

My $0.02

That's cool, I didn't mean your opinion p##sed me off just the situation I was in.

I'm starting to think next time a car nearly hits me at low speed I'll just let them and they can pay to get it fixed rather than me potentially hurting myself or my car trying to avoid them and having no one to take responsibility for it.

Yep thats the way to go eh. I u really wanna go all the way and a guy is on ure ass just slam on the brakes real hard and watch him ram u up the ass that way its his fault and ure covered, just say u were avoiding a dog or something.

Hmm cant believe i just said that.... yeh dont do that but in theory u dam well could and it would be all nice and legal but wouldnt it suck if someone in the car behind wasnt wearing a seatbelt and their head hit the new orange juicer they just had installed in the dash. U would have to live with that for the rest of ure life even if u didnt get busted for it.

Soz to butt in but i have spent 24 years driving both cars and all measure of trucks/ road trains/coaches etc and unfortunately u encounter idiots in all manner of transport. There could be a reason for there actions that u didnt see or understand etc so always bear this in mind. Its fustrating i know but most people r out there doing the right thing it just the good old 1%ers that cause the problems in all sorts of vehicles.

Yep, some truck drivers suck, and for the record if the truck couldn't stop, it shouldn't have such a large load, or should have a police escort to hold up the traffic while he does his thing.

Slightly off track, you gotta watch those bloody busses too, nearly been wiped out a couple of times - just indicator on and pull out - they really shit me.

I always drive with the thought that all other drivers are idiots, that way your not surprised when the do stupid things. Almost everyday there is some tool trying to get himself/herself killed by throwing it in the way of my car, almost like lemmings. I don't mind them killing themselves but not on my car.

It is also never worth escalating the problem by doing stupid things yourself, like braking in front of them. Don't know about you but I don't want my car damaged regardless of what the other guy did to me.

See'ya:burnout:

I saw this exact same thing happen in Subi ... a car load of chicks went to pull out when their light went green, and through comes a truck! This one was also carrying containers from a ship. I couldn't believe it I seriously thought they were going to get cleaned up that's how close it was :)

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
