In an attempt to track down a injector resistor ballast box I've decided upon asking nissan.

Before I do so, Where abouts is it located?

It's bolted to a bracket underneath the boost solenoid which is on the drivers side inner guard of the engine bay.

If it;s any help the part number is:

22698-05U10

That it is.

Second hand they appear to be quite expensive.

I gave Adelaide Jap a buzz and they quoted $175.

I said to the lady Nissan sell it for basically the same price and if thats the price they want to sell it for I'll send the extra few $$ and get a new one from Nissan.

As I was finishing off the word Nissan she hung up on me. :)

I made a resistor pack from Jaycar 10W 10ohm ceramic resistors. Worked fine for the 2-3km before the front turbo blew at 5psi (TT conversion on RB25)

My concern was longevity as the resistors were not as large an overall package as the OEM unit. I was considering ally spacers for heat sinking to counter that. Maybe 15-20W would be preferable but I don't recall seeing them on the Jaycar site.

yeah you would want it to be as reliable as possible, so im with you id get 20watt 10ohm resistors so that the the heat from the engine wont affect them, but resistors heat up heaps anyways. so how long has you gts-t actually ran the 10ohm resistors cos rowdyr32 says he used 7ohm resistors

I recalled finding the bands for the resistance for low and high impedence, and given I was using the toyota 440cc injectors I based it on impedance of them. I think the band for high impedence was 12-14ohm and they were 3.3 ohm. More resistance meant less current and heat for the PFC to deal with as the earth switching transistors are inside.

Unfortunately the front turbo blew 2 km after i did the TT and injector mods so I have no longevity basis for my mod.

I just measured. 2.0-2.1ohms so that means Gareth may have been letting the ECU see too much current. Then again that depends on the source for the impedence bandwidth being correct, and I believe it was Sydneykid.

What about one off a Z32 or even an MR30 , if the resistance is right the old stuff is common and cheap . In fact if you got one with its loom plug it would be neat and easily replaced if need be .

Funny you should mention as I have looked in to it and will get down to the local wrecker and or pull-it parts to check a few out. :D

why does the GTR use a stupid resistor pack anyway??

Why not:

a) make the injectors the correct impedence in the first place

or

B) design the ecu to accept the impedence off the bat

seems all a bit strange for Nissan to do it that way?? Must be a reason.. curious..

I have one from an R30 lying around, I believe it is the same resistance as the GTR type and will try to check if I get the chance. The conector is different tho. I've offered it to people looking for resistor packs, but they seem to want the specific type.

In the past I've also made up resistor packs for injectors using readily available heavy duty items from Jaycar (they come built into a heat sink). Still got some somewhere.

    • Bit difficult to follow. Have a look below and see what the standard R32 layout was like. Note there was a restrictor in place immediately before "turbocharged pressure control solenoid" that, if removed, magically got you 1 bar boost.
    • I might be way off the mark here.. there must be a T junction under the manifold. That takes manifold pressure through a check valve prior to the T, one side splits out to this bleed off orifice, the other straight to the wastegate actuators. 
    • Carrying out some engine due diligence before my first drive in a 260RS that has been in storage for 10+ years, and found two lines that are susposed to be plumbed into the boost control solenoid. One of the lines (the wastegate boost supply line) to actuate the gates, had a bolt in one end blocking it. The other line (main boost signal line) from the very rear of the intake manifold (RB26DETT) and runs up to the boost controller had this pill in the end of it as seen in photos. Other than the obvious (T28 Ceramic turbos might well be cooked)  Can anyone shed any light on if there is any validity at all with this mod, bleeding a constant fixed rate of manifold boost pressure off through this 3mm hole?  Is it deliberate?  Was this a 90s Jap mod done to RB26's? Or has someone just fitted this without any idea of what happens to ceramic T28s if they are not gate controlled?    
    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
