after 6 years of jealosy and yearning for my liner...i finally got it...but theres 1 problem ...my bloody driveway is too steep...scraped the bottom of the lip when trying to get it down the driveway ...now my baby has to sit out in the cold :)

I think its time to get the construction crew in to fix up the driveway...

anybody know any quick fixes to get the car down a steep drivway?...

if so, where do i get the materials to solve the problem....??

Yeh thats what I was going to sugest, planks of wood... work a treat. if they dont work.. then your driveway must be reaaaaaaaaly steep!!

welcome to the car owning side of SAU mate, it was about 4 yrs before I bought my r32 :)

but in all seriousness, I have to use planks of wood. if you go to your local bunnings, and buy some offcut 2x4 preferreably 2 bits 1m in length, and lay them down in the gutter.

I only drive my car on the weekend, so it'd not too much hassle, but it'd drive me nuts doing it everyday. If you leave em there, some little pricks might take em.

buy a sheet of that thick checker plate alluminium (Bunnings Dural has them).

Lay that across the front of your driveway, use a hammer drill to drill into the concrete, and use some bolts to bolt the alluminium down. If council complains, unbolt and remove... Then replace when they're gone... :D

Thanks for the suggestions guys, ill give the planks of wood a go for now.....its almost impossible to go in on an angle because its such a small driveway, its not the initial gutter im having problems with its the flat bit just before it enters the garage...basically from the gutter its flat, then it goes down on about a 35-40 degree angle then its flat again ..its the bottom section i had probs with...

I'll stick pics up soon, but its pretty much stock looking sII with stock rims ....(next purchase)

Need to go side way down.. used to happen to my ex-line with 400R front bar everyday (steep driveway). Just remember to let 1 front wheel reach the ground first then the other.

If still impossible, cheapest way is get a long timber and trim it suit ur driveway. I've seen few tyre shops use this way for customers with LOW cars.

ill get a foto of the driveway to explain my dilema properly when theres light...

oh yeah...those halogen lights...is it illegal for me to drive with them on?

at my old place my parents bought a sedan that was quite low, couldnt get over the edge going down to the driveway, within a couple of weeks they got construction people in, they jackhammered the concrete down and relaid half of the driveway so it was a smooth angle lol

Huge thread (do a search for Driveway Problems) about driveway problems when I first got my Skyline (well after I lowered it :))... I have one bloody steep driveway and if it weren't for the planks of wood, my front bar would be no more :)

Pros for the wood:

1) They are very very cheap, use offcuts from anywhere

2) Quite light and not too hard to setup

Cons for the wood:

1) Not good in the rain

2) Gets bloody annoying when they start to rot away

3) Depending on your road surface, it will start to destroy itself.

My next plan is to get some steel drainage vents (maybe 2m x 1m) which I can mount on top of the driveway as stated above in a previous post. Not only will this get rid of most of the cons, but will also make a nice addition to my shoddy driveway :D

Thanks for the suggestions guys, but the real problem isnt entering the driveway from the road, its at the bottom of the driveway. *see attatched* Ive tried reversing it in to no avail.. Close, but no cigar. Anyway, i think the only option is to tear up the driveway and build a new one.

THe red bits on the images indicate where the front would hit if i drove it down front first or reversed it in.

      Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree.       My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.

      Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno

      Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.

      BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
