hey guys im a newbie and thinking about buyin a skyline. I just need to konw how many litres a r33 skyline takes and also how many ks do you guys usually get out of them if you dont drive it to hard.

R33 non-turbo - 2.5 litre

R33 turbo - 2.5 litre

R33 twin-turbo - 2.6 litre.

I am thinking to get a Skyline too. good luck with petrol, u gonna need it for skyline :(

lol i think he's after tank capacity mate, not the engine capacity

I have a r33 RB25det - driving not too hard get about 400-450km to 50-53L.

Usually works out about 11-12L /100km

Not really great but I am going to install a jaycar fuel adjust to lean it out slightly because I know the AFRs are too low when on boost. Also will check the 02 sensor is working preoperly as these can make a huge difference to fuel economy.

Hopefully get about a 10% improvement.

I drive in kind of freeish flowing traffic but give it a little bit every now and then.

WIth the fuel prices the way they are echos are looking better.

Rememember 98 octane is another 10c more pre litre aswell :(

I get around 12L/100km. They arnt too bad unless ur gonna frequently drive around on boost... they get stupid thirsty with high rpm & boost.

I do alot of highway km's, and find that consumption could be better here... they are reasonably high reving, near 3000rpm in 5th at 100k's.

geezus. i wish i got fuel economy like you 12l/100 boys.

I get 20l/100kms, and that's with probably 70% of those kays done crusing at 100+ on motorways etc... i do have one faulty 02 sensor so i'm hoping when i fix that i can get down to around 15l/100. that would make me happy. plus crusing at 100kms the thing is on boost with just the slightest bit of throttle. oh well, thankfully we have another car for tooling around in the city etc.

yeah, i wish for a 6th gear on the motorway. at 110/120 it's reving at about 3500rpm in 5th... not good.

you can get better out of a Gen 3 lol

and even 12l/100km seems high if its highway driving! my 2.2l TX5 gets under 10l/100km if its on the freeway, 100-110 revving at about 2-2500RPM... (i know its not turbo) but if ur cruising and not on boost, it shouldnt be that much worse

oxygen sensor beer baron... i wouldnt stand for consumption like that! RB25 is a small engine, you can get that kinda consumption out of a genIII v8!

yeah, i know the sensor is stuffed as it's reading doesn't move even mildly in sync with the front one. it's an RB26 though running 250kw atw. just been lazy as i don't do many k's so it doesn't really bother me. the k's i do in it are for fun so it probably doesn't spend much time in closed loop anyway! plus RB26 02 sensors are harder to get/more expensive than the generic ones you can use in RB25s etc. ;)

edit: my power FC is tuned very rich up top (for safety margain on the track) so again not helping consumption. :);)

there is a big difference between a 2.2 NA car weighing 1000kgs reving at 2500rpm @110 and a 2.6 twin turbo car (producing tripple the power++) weighing 1500kgs reving at 3500.

i get about 300-320km out of tank (premium) in my r34 (using the soidnoid mod therefore running a bit more boost), thats driving normally however the fuel gauge shows that at half-tank i've done about 200km then technically i should get another 200km out of the rest but i only get atleast 100km ;) seems to go down alot quicker after half way.

alittle of topic but does your skylines have a strong petrol smell as soon as you get out of the car after a decent drive? mine does and im just wondering if this normal.

    • I hope it's actually possible. This is a write off in insurance world.
    • Yup. 2-way with shallow ramp angles. Still works.
    • That was the first session so not a lot to take from the day. It was low 20s ambient and the coolant had got to 110 (and obviously had some pressure!) so that still needs to be addressed. I haven't downloaded the data yet but will. I had refilled the auto trans with Redline DT6 because it claimed the best viscosity I could find at 100o. It wasn't really long enough to get a good feel for that; while the trans got to 100o in the session it still wasn't shifting crisply as I hoped. I think I'll try a few more sessions before judging. No steering motor overheat but I'd hope not in only 1 session! But finally the suspension; it was night and day over the standard stuff and the car was a couple of seconds quicker on the same crappy tyres, which is a huge difference. I'll stick with that and get some sway bars and a mechanical diff sorted too and see how that all goes together
    • I guess it’s partially a compromise of how my car is used, wanting to be able to switch from drift to grip with track side on-car adjustment. Also partially with the way the knuckles are set there is more static camber but less dynamic camber gain. 
    • OK, so update from the track day on Friday It was a classic "an unfortunate series of events'. There were a few cars around and when i checked my mirror coming out of the fish hook I notice some smoke from the rear of mine. Looked again and it was getting much worse, I figured I'd blown a turbo or something to got off it and pulled off the racing line. However.... since it is a left hairpin into a right kink, I was on the inside of the next corner. There was a car passing me on the left and a big drop off over the ripple strip on the right......and someone had knocked the witch's hat that was on the apex about 1m onto the track. So, between those 3, I decided to mow down the cone and not damage my car/the other car. Right choice, but surprising result.  The car decided the cone was a small pedestrian so it blew the rear bonnet hinges up to protect their head in the upcoming person to car impact....I didn't see that coming and like an airbag deployment it happened super fast. Straight into the pits from there, everything was driving fine but it became clear it was a coolant leak not smoke, it was billowing up onto the windscreen. Onto the trailer and home. I'll do a separate thread about the repair (once I work out what it is ), but the immediate problem was the bonnet wouldn't open because the front was pinched onto the front bar and would not release. Ultimately we unbolted the hinge from the bonnet, pulled it back a little and it released from the front OK. "There's your problem", the top radiator hose had popped off at the radiator.
