BigDatto
I enquired about the Free Trade Agreement with customs officers at Clyde, they clarified that it only applies to goods manufactured in the USA, & there has been some confusion over this point. example A: goods mfg in USA, purchased from USA, no import duty example B: goods mfg in Canada, purchased from USA, 15% import duty example C: goods mfg in USA, purchased from Asia, 15% import duty Also there are concessions for certain vehicle parts, but i didn't get the lowdown on that. so... buyer beware ! If the value is high enough they slap some GST on it, but never had any duty applied. The definitions of "made in", "manufactured in", "product of" etc are just as blurred as in Australia. I think it is just too hard for them. cheers Edited September 15, 2005 by Sydneykid Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/87663-awesome-garretthks-gt-turbo-deals/page/2/#findComment-1585837 Share on other sites

lwells
Does anyone have any other recommendations for U.S.-based turbo sellers? Google turned up a bunch of useless websites... BigDatto
I only mentioned this because they did open the parcel (in front of me) & said "WTF is this ?? (to use the parlance of our times). If I had let the parcel continue to the post office I'm sure it would have remained sealed. But xmas had come early & I couldn't wait !! lwells
what about things bought from asia? what taxes apply there?? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Depends on the item, but standard GST/import duties apply. This may change in the near future if the proposed free trade agreements with some of our Asian neighbours go ahead.
