R33 Boot Install

Ok ive nearly finished my boot install ive been doing lately... Lost my job awhile back and only had been working part time so i decided i would put my cabinet making skills to use and do my self a nice boot install.... This is my first attempt at anything like this before.. make plenty of boxes and everything in the past but never did much anything else so yer thought i would give it a go... Im very pleased with how it has turned out seeing it was all done by hand tools and at home. Own design, and did everything from cutting to the trimming my self (with extra hands holding stuff here and there )

Anyway dont be harsh coz it is my first go

Do give feed back on what can be improved or what else...

fark i was expecting like a half decent sub setup...but thats some shit you'd get a pro to do! lol

personally dont like the bottom of the subs facing out, but thats just me....

even got the TV in the boot lid......impressive

you guessed right thanks guys... yer im really stoked with how it all came out... very pleased.... when you loose your job and only working part time it tends to get a bit boring... plus when you notice repco selling audio gear dirt cheap it makes life alot easier....

All the audio gear i got really dirt cheap, about $1000 brand new for the subs, amps, speakers, screen, CD player etc.. all worth over 4grand so yer i was pretty stoked...

For materials, i used to be a cabinet maker so i went to my old work and got MDF packer sheets for free to make the boxes etc, the vinal was $25 for 2.5M, screws i paid about $15, had the neons laying around, silcon etc was about $10 for 2 tubes, contact adhisive for the vinal about $15, so yer i got out of it really cheap doing everything my self...

main thing is just take your time and think about stuff before you do it haha

had to really plan it all out so everything would fit in and still be able to be taken out easily so i can still get to the battery... but ended up working out fine.

i was in the same situation.. loosing my licence gave me alot of time and i did a boot install.... very satisfying and you save ALOT of cash plus you get it the way you want it and to the spec that you want it too.... :D

Got rid of the 180 i see? lovin the colour on the 33...

Just out of curiousity, how much did all that weigh? I pulled my (large) amp and 12" sub out of my previous car when I bought the R33, and the two combined was quite heavy!

I've just installed a new head unit (guide is on it's way for those interested) in today, and i've decided not to run and amp and sub because there's no where to put it. I was going to use the sides of the boot as you had (not quite so much as you did though), but I bailed on the idea.

not sure on the weight ah... its not really that noticeable though as you would think.. I made the boxes from 16mm MDF and the rest is only from 3mmMDF and some 15mm chipboard for the floor... the subs have a fair bit of weight in them though but yer as i said not really anything drastically notiable... doesnt really bother me anyway ive had my fun with really fast cars in the 180

Blaupunkt head unit (im selling at the moment to get a fold out screen)

Sony Xplod 6½" splits in the front

Pioneer 6X9 4 ways in the rear.

The front and rear speakers are powered each but the 2 kicker amps and the 2 subs are running from the Blaupunkt 4 channel amp bridged...

Soon am going to be getting a JVC cd/mp3/dvd etc and a JVC fold out screen as i have just got a sponcer so yer cheap

looks good mate, i ahve the same effect with the subs hanging out. whats the soun quality like, many rattles, as i am guessing that with those components that it makes the interior lights move. lol.

haha yer my head lights dim if ive got the system going hard...

Ive pulled it all out again and am going to be redoing it...

I still have fairly bad engine noise so i have the gain turned right down to make it not as bad untill such time as i sort it out...

I got a DB test done on it and pulled 132.2DB and the guy who did it said i should be able to get 140DB is i tune it up correctly, port the back shelf (ive taken the 6X9s out, and put a wall between the subs so they dont cancel each other out.... As i said im redoing it in the hope to get over 140DB but i guess only time will tell....
