Fellow nissan drivers. I have been driving a 200sx s-15 for a while and now am sick of the damn thing. Not that it is a bad drive, it is just that it lacks something. It really cant be described. I recently drove my friends skyline R33 GTS which was fuc#$%^ awsome. I knew what i was missing out on. However i have now been looking at the R34 range espically the GTR range. I just want a stock one but can only get it from an importer. Ther trouble is i have no one i kno who drives the thing. I looked and read a shit load of reviews but they are all from professional experts. So here is the delimma i wanted to kno from anyone out there what it is really like. Obviously there is a damn load of power and that sort of things but what is the driving like? what is the turbo kick in like? however in the quest for these answers i have to ask while driving my 200sx i get a load of people trying me out at the light. It doesnt matter i will get a excel to a calais to a lanos to well u kno what i mean. Does it get worse with a skyline R34 GTR? Pls help me with this situtation.

Regards

Aiike

If you can afford o 34 gtr you wont be dissapointed at all , if you can buy a V-Spec or better still M-Spec or Nur-Spec .

I can assure you you wont leave it stock for long though .

Thre is no comparison with the s15 or gtt for that matter and in the wet you just power on when you would be sliding in the s15 .

A stock R34 GTR is actually a really nice car to drive. Still sounds good but not crazy loud. Stock suspension is nice on the street and the brakes are good.

For whatever reason I rarely ever seem to get people wanting to run me in mine either - but then maybe its because Im never looking for it.

Turbo's come on strong when you put your foot down and pull all the way through to 8,000rpm.

But for example a stock R34 is speed and rev limitted and the stock ECU runs a little rich.

And this is where the GTR gets tough - its easy to modify. We put a stock R34 GTR on a dyno and it made 178rwkw's. Simple exhaust, cam gears, and ecu mods and it was upto 255rwkw's. Then bugger it - we'll add some bigger trubo's, injectors and afm's and wow - 325rwkw's. Now we are saving for a bottom end upgrade.........

They are a great stock car - but difficult to keep that way.

to drive around daily I would prefer a non V Spec as they are more comforatable on our roads.

However the V Spec does have the Carbon Rear Diffuser, the Front Diffuser (which adds to the front lip), the extra read outs on the MFD (exhaust temp and inlet temp) and the harder tuned suspension for more spirited driving amongst other things.

The V-Spec suspension really isn't too bad daily driving. I in the past have daily driven my V-Spec and its nowhere near as bad as your average import with aftermarket full sick suspension. Here are the pros and cons of having an R34 GTR daily driver:

Pros

- Less kids trying to race your car - I don't know why but I just wasn't getting it as much as when I drove the GTSt

- Awesome power whenever you want it

- Grip everywhere, in the rain its especially great

- You get looks everywhere you go

- I dont seem to get any attention from cops ?

- Brakes are amazing

- I dont seem to go through tyres at anywhere near the rate i did in my RWD car

- Price of parts is falling every day, loads of R32 GTRs around make the price of parts that just bolt onto any RB26 fall

- It's a piece of motoring history !

Cons

- You cant park it just anywhere

- You cant see out the back at night due to the spoiler and the stock tint

- It drinks a lot of fuel

- Your girlfriend will be jelous of the time you spend with the car :(

- No factory warranty

- You wont be able to stop modifying it :D

- Less kids trying to race your car - I don't know why but I just wasn't getting it as much as when I drove the GTSt

that's cos they know they got no chance against the almighty zilla!

However, a GTSt is a little more vulnerable .. especially in stock form.

    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
