Congrats to Man_in_bulk....he took out the final round of the state champs at Eastern Creek this weekend, winning the 2005 championship in the process (not to mention a very impressive 1.48.8 lap time....)

Congrats to Geoff and the rest of the support team at BSM including Sydneykid!

Whats more.....another SAU forum member (if only just :D) came home 2nd MB.Motorsport :( Shame he's in a commodore but he might upgrade one day ;)

Honourable mention to road_and_race who's GTR finished 5th in Class A pipping me by 8 points (I ended up 6th). And haw001 who ended up 10th (thats what you get for only entering 1 round :D)

Can't wait to get out there again next year and give it a real shot :D

yes, congrats to the BSM boys!

Well our season in prod sports came to a sad end with the porsche being heavily crashed in practice :D Turn 1, EC, 180kph, inside wall... not good. car is totaled. Not sure if Rob and our little band will be back next year, but if not i will offer my strut brace and services to you duncan :D

nah I was coming around to lap him Geoff.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Richard that really sucks. Did the tail come out in turn 1 or was there a nudge. :) I guess its a reminder....only race what you can afford to loose :) at $9k a GTR is in my budget.

Maybe its a sign he should be picking up one of those old spec carerra cup shells.....supercar pace at about 10% of the price

yeah tail came out at turn 1 on the throttle, arse snapped around and fired him into the inside wall, car is quite badly damaged. the quote from someone in sydney was $76K in parts + lots-o-labour. Rob has a plan though and should have it back together for a fair bit less than that. Porsche (germany) apparently will take the old shell back, crush it, credit him towards a new one and send a replacement 05 cup car shell complete with cage etc back. He can do this as it was bought as a Cup Car.

The funny thing was the car was not behaving as Rob wanted yet he still managed to qualify 5th with a 1:40.1. It would have been a great weekend.

Richard was that the cup car missing a lot of the front end parked up-hill from the control tower on saturday? or another fence/PCC car?

I was at turn 4 and saw a bigggg lose in the first race on Saturday cold tyre oversteer and disappeared stage right....

any fotos?

Duncan,

Thanks for the mention, it's a shame I missed the last three rounds but I hope to have a full season next year.

I would also like to congratulate Geoff, Phil and the boys at BSM and hope to see you at the track soon.

kinda, you can't comply a rally import for full road use, but you can drive them to events, practice, shows, mechanics etc etc. Now the 15yo rule is finished the prices on 89-90 gtrs are more sensible again, heading back down to 400-500k yen ;)

One of teh guys at work was telling me about the rally car for road use thing, sounds interesting.

So where do you get these "unregisterable" skylines from anyway?

Any car can be registered as a rally car as long as it has a CAMS log book and has been accepted. But the most common way to do it is to import a car from Japan for Rally use. Full details are on the DOTARS site

Thanks for that info

Both Production Cars (3E) and Improved Production (3J) allow GTRs these days, I'm pretty sure it is national from CAMS not a state based thing. We've also had wrx, evos, mazda gtrs running with us at various times

Production Cars I think is only in NSW and National series but you have IP in QLD don't you?

    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
