I know the twin turbo 3ltr sequential twin turbo supra has a lot of potential. But I was just wondering if anyone knows what rwkw are achievable with the following mods

- After market cooler

- Power FC or equivalent

- full exhaust system from turbos back.

- boost increase with stock turbos

From reading these forums and from personal experience these mods on a RB25 with 10-12psi of boost ~200rwkw seems to achievable. I know the supra will make a lot more power than this but how much more?

The most you will probably get with the mods on a Jap spec supra would be around 250-260 rwkw...

The US spec supra's would be able to hit the 300 mark as the turbos are different as well as haveing bigger injectors and a more aggressive intake cam...

upping the boost on the stock setup doesn't always work as well as you would think as the sequential system is controlled by the computer but there are some tricks you can do... :)

Parts are a little more expensive but because the supra was built in the US also, you have a bigger choice...

The only probalem I have had so far is Traction... It is a very fun car but fi you want the full potential you need some good quality wide rubber on the rears...

The reason for the RB26 to go into some of the Jap Supra's is because the RB26 doesn't make as much torque as the 2J...

Also I think the UK run that he did was an RB26 powered Supra.. something like that..

but personally...i'd sell my line and go for the RZ supra anyday.

the amount of HP it can achieve with stock internals are way better than skylines.

Well.. when we were at the dyno day with OCAU a supra running pretty much the same setup except it was running a SAFC2 and a boost controller I believe.. he reeled off about 240kw..

it was 212rwkw on the first run and the later runs were lower as it started experiencing heatsoak

My brother definetely has a problem with traction! He's got 18x9.5's on the rear with Toyo TPG's and spins the rears just trying to change gears! He's also got an Exedy triple plate clutch which is an absolute pain for the street (previous owner installed it for drags) which also makes for interesting driving!

2JZ-GTE into an R33 is stupidity in my opinion.  2JZ with the 6 speed costs an absolute fortune, and an RB26 can make similar power.  If you really want the BIG CUBE straight six, you could probably build a killer RB30DETT for less than a 2JZ engine swap.  The cost of installing a 2JZ would be phenomenal.

I hope you're referring to the RB30 engine ie from R31 days. Because i know stroker kits for the RB26 engines are amazingly expensive.... (think $28000+)

2JZ's are better engines then the RB26, but probably not good enough to warrant an entire engine swap. Better off going for the 1JZ, which are around half the cost, and of similiar potential. 1JZs are a LOT better then the RB25s

I know the hard tuned supras will kill the r33 gtst but im talking about both cars having the mods listed in the first post. So we have

Skyline 200rwkw

Supra 240-250rwkw

Skyline has a 200kg advantage but 50rwkw is a lot to make up for. But I have been over to the supra forums for a look cars with these mods are running low 13s to high 12s very similiar to the 33 GTST Skylines.

i love the fact that everyone that says "id swap my line for a supra" all have a r33 gtst!

i say take a modded gtr and then a modded supra for a drive, then make up your minds.......

True. But he is comparing the RB25 to the 2JZ, thus the reason there are probably lots of R33 Gts-t'ers in here including myself.

Tell me though, how does the comfort and interior of an RZ Supra compare to the R32?

who on earth compares the rb25 with the 2jz?

go the rb26 and then it'll be a fair comparison, tho its not to say that there arent GTST/GTT's out there which will spank supra rz's and vice versa

i'll admit that i had always liked supra's .. wanted to get one since i started saving up for a car.. but in the end, i went a GTT over the supra rz due to many reasons including age vs price, capacity vs fuel consumption

The interior of a Supra isn't built for anymore than 2 people really, unless the people in the back are short or have no legs. There's more room than in the back of an S13 Silvia, but the rear window is sloped so any passangers better not be tall or have no necks. The glove box on the passenger side kind of juts out, so if someone is in the back the person in the front passenger seat will be squashed and at worst have their knees under their chin!

But who really buys a car like this to transport 3 or more people on a regular basis? With out passengers there's ample leg room. The 'fighter pilot cockpit' look may or may not be to everyone's taste, the way the aircon and stereo controls 'wrap around you' but I reckon it's good.

I personally like the climate control system in Skylines better though, the way all the controls are contained within a single unit and there are no dials/knobs to speak of for fan speed, temperature etc. as there are in the Supra. My brother's car came with Recaro's as a factory option so comfort here is triple plus.

I’m only comparing the two with the mods listed in the first post I already knew it would make more power and beyond these levels the Supra has far more potential than the r33 GTST.

But after that level of modification things start to get expensive upgraded turbos fuel systems ect. After searching the supra forums for cars with similar mods the r33 listed in the first post the gtst and supra run similar times down the quarter at this level.

Does anyone else have some dyno charts or times for the supra with the the mods listed in the first post? and perhaps some GTR dyno runs and times with similar mods ill say it once more listed in the first post?

my house mate has a Stock RZ TT Supra. I have an R33 gtst with basic mods (FMIC, Pod, 3" turbo back, boost around 11psi). ive driven his, and honestly they can be compared to in that sence. i also have a chaser with a 1jz. we both got our toyotas on the same day, both with no mods, and the chaser keeps up til around 3rd gear, and then the twins in the RZ spool away.

but i agree that you cant compare toyotas best sports car to the gtst, it should be against nissans king, the gtr.

the gtst and the Rz are two different cars. one is a [japanese] family coupe, the other is pure sports.

Thanks everyone I know that the supra is quicker over the 1/4 than the r33 gtst from the factory.

How would a R33 GTS-T fare against a the supra both in street trim at this level of modification assuming they both have a decent suspention/tyre setup. Keeping in mind the supra weighs 200kg's more.

I know that the skyline is capable of high 12's what can the supra do?

Supra is capable of high 10's (10.7 -10.8) with stock engine, subzero ran a high nine with stock engine aparently.

    • Must have been an absolute nightmare to drive when the power steer was out, the rack ratio/wheel size/caster is all set up for power assistance
    • Welcome to SAU, what are you looking at buying?
    • I checked the injectors again (1 and 2, since they’re easiest to access) to make sure they weren’t clogged. Even though the entire fuel system had been cleaned, I wanted to be certain. Everything looked clean, so I reinstalled and connected everything. When I started the car to confirm everything was okay, it immediately revved up high, so I shut it off straight away. I checked to see if I’d missed a vacuum hose or something, but everything was connected. On the second attempt, the car ran without the high idle, but I noticed a distinct “compressed air” sound coming from the engine bay. Tracing the sound, I pushed injector #6 forward slightly and the noise stopped — it turned out it wasn’t seated properly, despite the fuel rail being bolted down. While holding it in place, the car idled steadily without stalling and ran for over 5 minutes. At this point, I pulled all six injectors out just in case I hadn’t seated them correctly or dirt had gotten onto the O-rings. Unfortunately, I discovered that I had damaged 3 out of 6 injectors (the OEM 270cc ones) during installation. So yes, this was my fault. Since only the pintle caps were damaged, I’ve ordered a Fuel Injector Service Kit from NZEFI to refurbish them. In the meantime, I reinstalled my new injectors – the car now idles fine for over 15 minutes without stalling. I have not attempted to drive it so far. It’s not perfect yet, as it hesitates when the throttle is pressed, but it’s a big improvement. Unplugging the IACV with the new injectors idles at around 800rpm, even with the IACV screw tightened fully. But this is probably due to tune.
    • I wanted to try and preserve the front bumper as long as possible, they're not cheap and are made to order in Japan. Taking inspiration from my previous K11 Micra build where I made an undertray for the Impul bumper, I did the same for this BN Sports bumper but a little slimmed down.  This time round I only made a 'skid plate' (if that's the correct wording/term) for just the bumper surface area, the Micra version covered the gap like an undertray. Starting off with a sheet of mild steel approx. 0.9mm thick 4ft x 2ft in size. I traced around the bumper, cut it out and cleaned the edges. Luckily I was able to get two halves from one piece of metal In the video I installed it as is, but I've since then I've removed it to spray and add a rubber edging trim. The rubber trim is suitable for 1-2mm and it's a really nice tight fit. The bolts had to be loosened due to the plates being too tight against the bumper, the trim wouldn't push on I used some stainless M6 flat headed bolts for a flusher finish (rather than hex heads poking down), I believe this style fastener is used for furniture too incase you struggle to source some. The corner's are a little wider, but this may be an advantage incase I get close to bumping it  The front grill got some attention, finally getting round to repairing it. Upon removal one fixing pulled itself out of the plastic frame, one side is M8 that fixes inside of the frame, where as the other side is M5. Not knowing I could get replacements, I cut down an M8 bolt, threaded it inside the frame along with a decent amount of JB Weld.  The mesh was replaced to match the bumper. One hole on the bonnet/hood had to be drilled out to 8mm to accommodate the new stud, once the glue had set it could be refitted. I think the reason the grill was double meshed was to hide the horn/bonnet latch (which makes sense) but I much prefer it matching the bumper Bumper refitted and it's looking much better IMO The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZP35io9MA

There's nothing wrong with having coloured silicone hoses, but I realise as I'm getting older I prefer monotone engine bays with a splash of colour on the engine cover(s). I cover this in a lot more detail in the Youtube video, so unfortunately there's limited photos of the process. The intercooler, upper radiator, boost vacuum and upper breather hoses were all changed to black silicone with mikalor clamps. The only blue left is a blanking cap at the back of the inlet manifold and the GReddy pulleys (which will be replaced for stock when the cambelt gets replaced) While the intercooler pipes were off I gave them a quick clean/polish too A before photo I do have a replacement air filter on its way.
