I too have this question My S2 came with some nice Volk racing wheels and they say they have a +30 offset but they also have about a 30mm adapter which I believe is illegal if the offset is correct why is it that they need the spacer also the wheels have a totally different stud pattern to the car it seems like the spacers may be made for the wheels, could this make them Legal ?

The wheel sticker you have shown says the stud pattern is 5H 114.3 which is the same as the stagea, so they are they same stud pattern

At a guess is your car a manual?

18x8 +30 will fit fine if it is a "auto" as the rear track is wider by 50mm than a manual

If your car is a "manual" than it has the narrower track rear end, so the spacers will make the wheels sit out further so they fit (clear they rear shocks) and look better by filling the guards out

Any spacer is illegal

If you are worried about it, sell the rims and get a lower offset wheel.

Hi Thanks for that and yes it is a Manual, I tried to fit them without the spacers but the stud pattern was different ? they are closer together than the Cars hubs

Also who would buy them if they are Illegal ?

That is strange the wheel stud pattern will not fit without the spacers

Are the wheels multi stud pattern, ie do they have 10 holes?

Sell the spacers seperatly to the wheels

Many people mod their cars and not worry about it being legal

Not sure who would do that thou :D

Early Volk Jap wheels had small (approx 5/100) bolt pattern + big positive offset and then spacers/adaptors to suit different vehicle bolt pattern's.

Seen a staggered set of subaru wheels like this and personally replaced a set on a supra.

was it a straight bolt in?

any other things you had to change to do this?

A s14 craddle is the same width as the stagea manual cradle.

The main difference is the S14,S15 and R33 GTS (non turbo) cradles do not have Hicas, so it is the best ones to use when reusing as much as possible of the stagea auto rear end.

Generally you change it to get the narrower rear track so it matches the front end and you can fit better wider and lower offset wheels.

Drive shaft length is shorter. Stagea have 3 different styles plus 2 different tail shafts. So use either skyline or s14/15 that suits your cars diff bolt pattern

The reason the manual has the narrower track is nissan was saving money and reused the rear end out of r33 GTR's. The manual also has stronger drive shafts etc, hence nissan used these in manual stagea's

so stageas do not have hicas?

so manual stageas have the diff and driveshaft out of the 33 gtr, ie. big 6 bolt half/drive shafts?

doesnt the gtr diff have hicas also though?

i went s14 cradle myself because my car does not have hicas, and i didn't want to fit a manual stagea cradle that has it (means i can run aftermarket adjustabletoe rods, which i am)

the part you have put in quotation marks, he is talking about half shaft bolt pattern. the gtr rear end is a 6x1 bolt from memory, s14/s14 is 3x2 bolt and r33 is 5x1 bolt (which i am using to match my 2 way diff in r33 housing)

My auto stagea series 2 had 5x1.

The stagea manual one I have now is 6x1

Both had the same diameter drive shafts

There is 2 different tail shaft sizes as well. My car had a fairly heavy looking one and a I was also given a much lighter one, but thru it in the bin

ive read all 15 pages and nobody has tried or is running 17x9+35. my 18x9+20 bbs rims are a perfect fit. im just wondering if the extra 15mm further inwards would make the wheel scrub on anything?? shocks, inner guards etc.??

that's 5mm less than an r33/34 gtr wheel. should be fine

    • I was 99% sure the standard one is long enough to get there, you might just have to change the throttle orientation. If not, I remember someone having used an r31 cable instead, but that is probably harder to find than r33 by now...

    • Had my rig on Matt's dyno at PITS the other day. After a few years between tunes I added a few sensors and swapped intercoolers. Result. 553hp at 26psi. Not bad for an FJ20 that was built in 2007. The problem.. It filled the overflow bottle on hard runs which leads me to believe the head gasket isn't sealing. I have a coolant pressure sensor which was reading cap pressure at 22psi and occasionally overrunning to 23/24 psi on deceleration after a pull. It was not spiking. It has arp2000 head studs and a cometic gasket. As its been 18 years in service, I pulled the engine out and head off. Everything looks good but we obviously have an issue. Where I'm at.. Years ago I had the same issue, I checked the stud tension and they were all over the place. Some at 60 to 70 and some up near 90. I nipped them all to 100ft lbs and this stopped the water push until now. I believe this compromised the gasket back then. What do I do? 2 options are..  1) I bought arp 625+s, which I could put in with a new gasket. Thinking Kameari this time, reassemble and try again. 2) strip the block, get fire rings machined in with copper gasket and try that. I do not want to push it more than 28 to 30psi. I think the turbo will be out by then anyway. (G30-770). My other concern is the long term ability of a copper head gasket. Are they streetable for years? I feel like a new gasket with the new studs will probably suffice, but I don't know. Any thoughts welcome and advice on copper gaskets and fire rings. Thanks!
