seen your car there, looked very nice! congrats on the award aswell, so how do we find out who won what awards for the show??

thanx guys - much appreciated :)

as 4 who won what? i can remember a few off the top of my head - not sure if they will be posted on Autosalon website???

but 1 car who did literally clean up was Darry's Ovakil Magna - those 3 words are etched in my brain forever now lol - he came away with about 20 trophies including king of Autosalon - same sorta story @ Gold Coast - damn i'd hate 2 see his house - would need an extra house just 4 the awards

good on him tho - obviously a lot of time, effort & money has gone into that car, just a shame it can never get driven - sorta defeats the purpose 1 would think???

um it does drive, i can vouch for that on friday nite when we were helping set up a display, they drove it onto the dyno so he could do his run! only got sumthing like 189hp or sumthing, but it sounded so tuff. we were spewing that we left our camera back at our unit. i dont think that was the full potential of the car though.

really? unreal, would have loved 2 see it on the dyno - i was setting up our display 'til about 10.30 on Fri. nite - musta been too busy & missed it :)

as 4 the driving bit i meant more like not the sorta car that u would see go 4 a Sunday drive down the coast etc. - but then again i could be wrong maybe he is often out cruising in it down his way???

Yes, but lets be honest with ourselves. . . . The cars which feature at the autosalon are not really drivers now are they. Never seen so many cars getting pushed in, arrive on trailers and get reassembled just for the display. But that is cool, that is what autosalon is all about, they are show cars afterall.

But I liked the fact that our stand was full of cars that you will see REGULARLY at Q.R., Willowbank, Darlington Park (before it closed), on cruises, dyno days, parked at the local shopping centre, hell mine has even made an appearance in Sydney, and they still cleaned up ok. Modded with a purpose, not just for show. But that is just what I like.

i'll have to agree with jason.

cars are made to be driven - you dont throw in adjustable coilovers and slotted rotors along with xxxRWKW just because you can.

that and also while walking around some of the other cars, people made comments such as "its not low enough" or "it doesnt even have a paint job/bodykit/etc"

that said, each to their own - some nice showroom quality cars, as well as driver cars.

agree with ur comments 100%

i too drive my car everywhere including 2 the shops...

i consider my car a show car but also a race/dyno car just as much - i have tried 2 concentrate on both areas - which i'm proud of - most ppl are just 1 or the other...

but in saying this i was 1 of the car's that had 2 be towed/pushed 2 the show due 2 car problems only - totally beyond my control - unfortunately missed out on the dyno too...

nah i meant it does drive, as in move, but i doubt it is street driven considering it had no inner gaurds in the engine bay. you could see the tyres hanging out in there, thats how he gets it so low on the airbags.

i drive my car all the time, only reason i take it on a trailer to shows is its usually detailed and polished up, so i put a cover on it, and also knowing my luck some guy would t bone me on the way up there

ben...

yes u are true with that comment, so many show cars get written off on the way to shows. i once heard of a hotrod that was being transported to a car show and fell of the truck! :) but the risk involved and the time and effort put into show cars is amazing. but the thing is if i put a 20,000+ paint job and a $10,000 set of wheels and interior etc etc, u wouldnt want to ruin it if you were taking it to show off to ppl. the blue mr2 with the m&m's around it and the meteor were driven there from the sunnycoast, and they are top show cars in there own rite. so it just depends on how deep you wallet is i guess. if you can afford to fix it if sumthing goes wrong then fair enuf, but most ppl wouldnt be able to rebuild what they have again, so they dont want to risk it.

I don't know how many times I've replied to a BAS thread already, but I'll reply again anyway... 'worst auto salon ever' *comic book guy voice (from simpsons)*

'twas lame as they come... bad cars... bad girls... bad everything :)

    • GCG is a good company, they're a major distributor for Garrett in Japan as well.
    • Nah, OEM washer bottle and brake fluid reservoirs are fine I don't know what it is with the plastic that Mazda used, some plastics, like the washer bottle and brake fluid res are fine, and still look new after 20 years use, where as the coolant expansion tank, and PS reservoir, that I replaced with new OEM items when I first got the car, turned yellow and started getting brittle a few years later If the dirty yellow stained plastics didn't trigger me there wouldn't be an issue, but they did, much like the battery bracket....... Meh As for going back to work full time to support car stuff, nope, why, because I own a Mazda NC MX5, not a Nissan R series Skyline 🤣
    • I've never heard of CJ-motor, so can't advise you on them. I'd just go straight to GCG for a GCG highflow though. Seems no point to use a middleman. I'm somewhat surprised that the price on the CJ site is lower than the GCG retail price. Even though CJ would get a discount of some sort, you would hardly expect them to give up so much margin. Maybe the price is out of date? Having said that "I'd go to GCG"...when I did my highflow, I went to Hypergear. I did this https://hypergearturbos.com/product/rb25dethighflow/#tab-dyno-results with the R34 OP6 450HP profile. With the BB centre (extra $400) and intially with the standard boost actuator, but I eventually got him to send me the high pressure one when I got to the point of being able to actually use it. Ends up costing the same sort of money as the GCG highflow, but this is, of course, the turbo that I KNOW has a shorter length core and so moves the comp cover rearwards. The GCG apparently doesn't do that. My mechanic also swears by the GCG highflow, given that we have another turbo rebuilder who does something essentialy the same as theirs, using Garrett wheels. He says it stands up at really low revs and makes good power. I haven't pushed my HG highflow past ~240-250rwkW yet (should have a little more in it, but unclear how much) and it does have a fairly gentle boost ramp. OK, it's much better now that I have gotten my boost controller tuned up on it.  A lot of my earlier unhappiness was because I couldn't keep the wastegate flap as closed as it needed to be (including some mechanical issues). I'd still prefer it to boost up nearly as quickly as the stocker, and it certainly a bit slower than that. So maybe the GCG one is worth the first look (for you).
    • Ok thanks 🙂 I will higly consider this. Any "known" company for a good reviews and experience to send that off? Is that CJ-motor good one? Or go straight to GCG site? I need to use VPN to even find some of those "shops" let alone access them 🙂
    • You can literally put in as much WMI as it takes to quench the combustion totally (and then back it off a little, obviously), and it will keep making more and more power. The power comes from the cooling effect of the water (and the meth) and the extra fuel (the meth, which also has massive octane). It is effectively exactly like running E85. One might be slightly better than the other, but they are damn close. But with either you can lean on the boost or the timing (or both) waaaay more than with just petrol and the results are similar. Here's the first thing I googled for an anecdotal bit of evidence. Can't access the attachment without being a gold member, but it is there for the getting if able to, or searched up elsewise perhaps. https://www.hpacademy.com/forum/general-tuning-discussion/show/wmi-vs-e85/
