I remember reading awhile back about the new Camry thats supposed to come out to rival HSV and FPV from Toyota's Aussie performance division. (TRD?)

Supercharged V6 Engine with 180kW or something, 0-100 in sub 7 secs or something and 18" wheels standard.

Anybody got any new info on this thing?

Haven't heard a peep from the cardigan carmaker about this thing for ages.

But 180kW and only 6's for 0-100km/hr? That's no HSV / FPV competitor. And Aussie car buyers have proved time and time again that they want their big sports sedans to push, not pull.

I haven't seen any sketches of the new camry, but the new one is to be a 4 cylinder. I own a 96 V6 Camry, 5 speed and it goes pretty well for what it is. There were rumours floating around of them producing a few V6 supercharged camry's, but thet have appeared to back down from this idea.

Instead of a "Lexus" Chaser, Toyota should put the 2JZGTE VVTi in the Lexus IS300 in place of the atmo 2JZ it comes with. That would eat chasers for breakfast. But with the IS and 2JZ so close to the end of their life cycles it is not a viable option unfortunately. But maybe I could do a conversion myself :P

Back on topic, I think making the Camry 4cyl only will help Avalon sales signifficantly, as V6 Toyota buyers will be forced into it, but I think total sales will suffor. The supercharged V6 should give the Avalon a much needed image boost though.

And as for big front wheel drives not handling, I've heard good things about the new Mitsubishi 380, but ultimately it still isn't my cup of tea. If I wanted a $35k+ big car, I'd go second hand, rear wheel drive and German, not new, front wheel drive and Australian. Mid to late 90's BMW 7-series come in at around those $$$ (I strayed off topic again :()

They should get rid of those high ass lights that nearly go all the way up to the window, they look shit, they are on every new car except Ford and Holden, and Toyota should make some sexy 4 door pimpin style RWD turbo beast that still looks family driveable but a few years down the track available to the drifters.

Also Mitsubishi should get there asses together and make a RWD magna and then maybe they'd make some sales.

Man i should go sell my parents camry n buy that supercharged one if it ever comes out.. I still dont know why toyota dont make any new sports car.. I mean Mr2 came out, but thats the uggliest thing i have seen.. n its shit..

Or maybe they just done release it here in aus..

Whats toyotas latest sports car?

FWD cars are gay ;3

and no.. if the chaser came here, u'd have to pay a shitload for one..

that's y i was hoping the next GTR wouldnt be released here.. now i bet it'll cost us over $150k and it'll stay that expensive for ages..

    • I know people cry at the price of the Getrag 12-14k for a conversion now, but it really is a nice mid point. Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
