Hi ppl,

Just hunting round for a decent electronic boost controller and at the same time not spend too much.

I was looking at the Greddy Profec B-Spec II and the Turbosmart E-Boost 2 ones. Bit pricey but hoping to maybe find S/H.

Just want to know from peoples experience which has been good for them etc.

Cheers!

hey Pulp,

I've got an Greddy Profec -A, althou its not the one your looking at, i find it to be top, holds boost perfect and very easy to tune.

so going by that i would say the Profec B would be very similar.

Just had a quick look for Profec B and looks like the range from $300 to $500, if you cant get one for cheaper than $400 you might aswell go something like blitz ID-3

I know it's a bit off, but personally, i'm a Apexi fan. So it's the AVC-R. There's a reason why Apexi has not upgraded the AVC-R since it's launch, cause it just works so well. There is not much of a need to upgrade it. Some pple said that the AVC-R's solenoid is a perfect replacement for a skyline, which i think is just biasedness again, and should be bullshit. LoL.

My .5 cents worth. Again, remember. I'm a apexi fan. LOL

Thanks guys!

EVL, I'll check out the Profec -A, sounds ok.

KeeFy, yeah I like the Apexi gear too, am def getting an SAFCII and wanted an e-boost controller as well, but I think the AVC-R is pretty pricey compared.

I'll see what I find!

Doesn't really matter I spose Dan, is it better to buy through Nengun?

Although been speaking to Lumpy at Hyperdrive and he said cause my trans is Auto, to get the HP I want I'd have to go either PFC or a Greddy E-Manage kit. The SAFC combination wouldn't control or handle timing well etc.

The PFC would cost me more cause it takes more to tune with auto. So the E-manage kit would be a slightly cheaper and better option as it can be piggy backed.

pfc Does not work with auto nissans.

already been down this path.  I ended up getting  the emanage ultimate and profec e 01.

Yeah I'm thinking the same thing hey!

Did you do anything to the trans anyway? like any mods etc, or did it handle it fine?

no mods to gearbox as yet. will be getting shift kit form mv automatics though. PFC just will not work with the shift logic of the skyline gbox. I would have prefered pfc, but atleast you can hook emanage up to laptop and tune it yourself.

yeah i thinking of getting an electronic boost contoler looking for second hand APEXI AVCR i think they seem to be able to do the most rather than just plain two boost setting and thats it. Mines also auto buy yeah its a r32 so different to you guys.

Mad34 let me know when you get the shift kit from MV i was gona get one too and a trans cooler maybe cheaper to get together even if they are different

Hmm I've known a few people with AVCRs and even though they look nice, they've all had dramas. Not holding boost, too tricky to use etc etc. One of them switched to a Greddy Profec B Spec II and said it was awesome. Controlled boost a lot better.

But I do admit the AVCRs look sweet :)

E boost 2 are the best no spiking + you get a boost gauge with it

they are australian and the after sales is exerlent

i have one and was unhappy with it so i e mailed turbosmart and 30seconds no shit i had a phone call asking wat was wrong

they promtly told me how to use it my self now i agust it and my car is running very good

i have set it so good i hav the best power band and wen i get an e management i will play around with it again

james

theres a new blitz i-color or something with the slick colour screen and more logging/display options . the id3 has a mono screen and still has some pretty good monitoring/logging options

the duty cycle/boost curve learning thing can be tough to setup but its great when its working . the blitz can be set to manual if you want to go old school

    • I don't know it is due to that. It could just be due to load on track being more than a dyno. But it would be nice to rule it out. We're talking a fraction of a second of pulling ~1 degree of timing. So it's not a lot, but I'd rather it be 0... Thicker oil isn't really a "bandaid" if it's oil that is going to run at 125C, is it? It will be thicker at 100 and thus at 125, where the 40 weight may not be as thick as one may like for that use. I already have a big pump that has been ported. They (They in this instance being the guy that built my heads) port them so they flow more at lower RPM but have a bypass spring that I believe is ~70psi. I have seen 70psi of oil pressure up top in the past, before I knew I had this leak. I have a 25 row oil cooler that takes up all the space in the driver side guard. It is interesting that GM themselves recommend 0-30 oil for their Vette applications. Unless you take it to the track where the official word is to put 20-50w oil in there, then take that back out after your track day is done and return to 0-30.
    • Nice, looks great. Nice work getting the factory parts also. Never know when you'll need them.
    • Thanks @jtha7 I will have a look around tomorrow but it is a prick of a spot. These are some photos i tried taking
    • I take it that the knock retard is from bearings tapping a little tune? Thicker oil is a fragile bandaid. You need a much bigger oil cooler and probably the bigger pump being discussed.
    • Hi @Chupapy i had several leaks from coolant pipes being corroded, i also had one leak on back of the head onto transmission. For me that leak was from the turbo water line. Follow the line to the back of the head The hose and metal pipe had perished these are the best pics I took of it at the time
