I would also like to thank abo bob for all the hard work he put in getting the day running to start with and will be in next time

hear hear, ive already pm'd Adam regarding this subject and was surprised by his response in this thread. I always appreciate the work he does for us regardless of whether or not it got called off.

this thread is annoying... who cares why it was cancelled.

the fact is that it was and its in the past now, what i would like to concentrate on is getting our money back!

Adam, im sure 50 angry letter demanding a refund would help with that, would it not?

I see Paul's point and despite agreeing that the correct decision was made to cancel the day, the fact that the club was to lose $1300-odd by cancelling the event on the day justifies his view that they could have waited a little longer just in case things got better. Either way the cancellation charges were due. Personally, I didn't mind the cancellation as it gave me more time to prepare my car more to my satisfaction.

But this is all in hindsight, so perhaps we can learn from it and can use the experience to make the next drag day better.

I should be at WSID Wednesday week for a run or two.

i am going to shout this for the deaf people

I WALKED THE TRACK, THE STARTING AREA HAD LOST ALL ITS RUBBER AND WAS NOT FIT FOR QUICK TIMES, I AS WOULD AND OTHER CARS MAKING OVER 260 RWHP LET ALONE 470RWHP WOULD NOT HAVE RUN QUICK TIMES, MEANING A THE TRACK WAS POINTLESS FOR TESTING.

thank christ it was called off, as i am only down my tow car fuel bill, and not an additional $250 can of race fuel, more passes on my drivetrain and engine to run shit times on a track that wasnt going to be quick.

i am too disappointed it didnt happen as i am always up for racing, but based on the information provided, ie track conditions and probability of rain it was the best decision to cancel.

is it getting through yet, even though it didnt rain, no one would have run quick due to the extremely poor track condition, hell one of the quicker cars could have had an accident, and instead of being $200 $600 or $800 down, you could have been down a $50k car or $130k car and been in hospital feeding rom a tube.

Shane, the cranky cressida driver. time for a cuppa

and I thought that there was only wankers at drift days!

how does one person shit people off so much

Adam, I and many others appreciate the the effort you have put into organising the day.

look forward to smoking some tyres next year.

Did anyone float the idea to have each pit crew and spectators donate $5 each for another day to cover the washed out event.

50 cars potentially equals 250 "extras"

250 x $5 = $1250.

Just a thought.

great idea...count me in for that.

Elbee, I actually thought of such a charge. Another idea was to allow 2 other spectators at $15 each. 2 x 50 x 15 = $1500. Would cover the cancellation fees plus the food and bread for the BBQ. But the $5 per spectator sounds alot more fair and reasonable. Anything that will help the club recover any losses is a good idea.

Sounds good Laurie.

Paul - I think your first comment was wrong; not wrong to make, wrong in fact. You are of course entitled to your opinion. I am perhaps a little sensitive because I put in a huge amount of effort for no reward, and I 'm not saying you or anyone else is unappreciative of that, but criticisms don't hit lightly in that situation.

There is no need for any of us to bicker. I stand by my decision as the right one in the circumstances and I know that I have many people behind me in this regard. Let's all look forward to the next one.

As for letters to WSID. Let's wait a little longer for a response from WSID and go from there.

Fatz - if I had an engine I'd be there.

Charlie - Either way the cancellation charges were not due. That is the issue here. I was told that until the first car races down the strip we had not spent our money. If we had waited longer there would have been more charges attributed to us although I didn't know that at the time. If I had known that they would try to charge us that money I would have cancelled at 7am instead of 9am which would have reduced the charges by about $1000 but I suspect would not have reduced the money Paul spent.

John from WSID told me that there was enough misty sort of rain at several times on the day to indicate that had we decided to race it would have been a virtual washout due to stoppages while they redried the track so no matter which way you apply hindsight, it was still the right decision.

Anyway, cheer up people. We haven't given up on motor racing kind of fun yet.

Thanks for the reply Adam, appreciate your acknowledgement of my right of opinion. Lets try and sort this crap out as Sport Compact in general seems to be getting the short end of the stick as far as WSID is concerned. Shane 1JZ-747 suggested we all turn in to knuckle-dragging V8 bone heads or move to Willowbank, neither of those options appeal to me. This facility is owned by the tax payers of NSW (State Government) not the "management comittee" apointed to run it. I suggest drafting a letter to the Minister of Sport and Recreation enlightening them to the going's on out there and the constant battle we have persuing out sport of choice. Enough is enough!

neither appeal to me either mate. i was once a knuckle dragger, never again.

and willowbank weather is not good for my fair complexion.

I think a $5 photographers/spectators fee would not be an issue, collected at the venue when you arrive and give people a wrist band that shows they have paid..

we all know a stamp on the hand looks much better.

Now that this one was cancelled, then maybe i can enter in the next one (unless i have another crash :D )

Ok I just heard from WSID and they will give us a refund in full although they appear to be hinting that we are not welcome back without saying it outright.

I'll give them a little while to calm down and then see what we can do about a date next year.
