Can Someone please direct me as to which section i need in the ADR rules for pod filters and Intercoolers?

I was defected for my pod last friday, although it is in a box. the cop also sent me a traffic infringement notice today for driving vehicle non standard. at the time i was defected he told me anything non standard is illegal including using non factory type tyres. obviously i knew this was b/s so contacted my solicitor straight after.

anyway please help this is already going to court!

This is the pod box.. the cop said it was as much of a defect as the pod itself as it was non standard.

AFAIA the ADR's don't specifically cover pod filters or intercoolers, they are actually EPA issues to do with intake modifications effecting emissions. According to VicRoads, at least, pod filters are not an 'engineering issue.....refer the EPA'.

Suggest you contact engineers (not the desk drone) at your local rego authority (wherever you are) as well as the EPA.

The only way I see you can win your case is if you provide proof you have not exceeded emissions levels set by the ADR's your car is complied to. The reason is, you have modified the standard emissions system which is proven by the manufacturer to pass relevent emissions standards.

Seeing as this is an expensive test that you will have to incur the cost of, and pod filters are widely regarded not to offer significant power gains, I would just remove it.

The first page of a google search will show you the emissions composition for the relevant ADR standards here:

I agree, cops usually enforce RTA regulations and not ADRs. Ask to speak to the engineers at RTA and they should set you straight about what's what. Keep a level head and they are usually easy to get along with. An infringement for non standard? Was it specific? Just about every car on the road is non standard in one way or another, try to find out the parameters they use to determine this. And WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING THAT YOU ARE TOLD BEING CAREFUL TO NOTE NAMES AND TIMES. Another source is tech help at the NRMA believe it or not, you'd be surprised at what these guys know.

Good luck

paul its a small town with a few cops (leeton, nsw)

he does have 2 live there n the cop will keep hounding him. if he gets the law on his side he can then write down times that he gets pulled over etc from this cop and put an harassment order on him. this makes the police in his town stay away from him for 6 months unless it is warranted. this has happened b4 to one of my mates who lives in vic.

Yes, thats pretty much the reason for it. this is by no means the first time i have been targetted for doing nothing more than driving a skyline in a place where V8's are the dominate species.

I'm sick of letting it slide because all that is happening now is they are taking advantage of me, thinking i am just going to give in each time.

Small town, and them pulling out the ADR one...

Out of interest, did you sleep with this said policemans daughter and get caught recently?

I think you will find he's pretty much spot on with the ADR thing. But you must have done something to really annoy them to pull that one on you.

I thought the air pod was more of an EPA noise issue than an EPA emissions issue.

Atleast that's what my engineer said - something about cops pulling bullshit about pods because it's linked to noise, but he also said the noise and pod logic only really applies to rotories because they are very loud through pods.

Either way good luck good on ya for goin to court.

first thing. is it engineered?

the reason pods are ilegal is. they dont offer the same flame traping properties as a sealed air box. and noise emissions i think.

(yes its not like a backfire is going to go all the way down 2 or so metres of plumbing and a turbo!)

to make it legal it has to be "out of site"that is what my engineere said for him to engineer it.

i think you may of got bent over by an ignorent cop.(there are plenty)

it usaly helps if you put your mechanics licence next to your licence in your wallet so they see it. no more gay defects after i did that!!

by the sounds of it you need to be armed with a enginereres cirt folder.

    • The spray cans were in the "Kiln" room whilst I was preping the parts,  so probably around 2 hours to get them warmed up, the kiln room has 3 small ovens running at 100°c, 3 medium sized ovens running 100°c, and the large one I used running at 80°c, the room itself was about 28°c, I also spent a bit of time taping up the parts in the room as well, and by the time I was done I would assume that the parts were around that 28°c As for power, I expect a couple of Killerwasps up high would be achievable with the current mods, I'm still running the MZR 2.0 intake and throttle body, and there is a slight mismatch with the 2.0 intake (smaller) and 2.5 intake ports (larger) on the head, this intake is matched and specifically designed to fix this issue with the ports mismatch, the throttle body is also a couple of mm larger, OEM is 65mm, the Bosch is 68mm In the end it will look "prettier" than the molded plastic thing that is the OEM MZR 2.0 intake As for the LSD, it's the OEM Torsen which works fine for what I use the car for, plus, basically no maintenance apart from the occasional oil change

    • Mate , I have the same issue right now with the exhaust noise , if you can tell me what your local guy did , I'll talk to my guys and see if they can do the same. Power is good but it just too loud when put it down.
    • The other trick I've found with wrinkle black is to put the can in hot water for a bit to warm the paint up, and to pre-heat whatever you're painting. It'll be interesting to see if you pick up any power with the intake, following with interest. Got a proper lsd for this?
