Ok ive been thinking about this conversion for a little while and would like some input/info on what exactly is needed and what needs to be modified to make it fit ?

Some of the questions I have are.

1. Can I use an PFC from a GTR ?

2. If yes for 1. then will it be pretty much plug and play or would there be a lot of mucking around with wiring looms etc ?

3. Heard that the sump needs to be modified to make the engine fit

is this true ?

4. IS the RB26 heavier than the RB25 ? Was told by one person that because of the extra weight it will stuff up the balance of the car. Said it will be quick in a straight line but no good on a circuit..

5. What needs to be moved or relocated...im guess the battery may need to be relocated to the boot.

Thats all I can think of for now......

Thanks adam...I wasnt aware that Driver was doing the conversion.

R31. Just with the general trend of things I just thought there would have been a lot of differences between the 33 and 34 to justify a new thread. This has been the case with most parts I tried to get for my car.

I'd say not really. Im putting a 26 into the 31 and its pretty similar to anyone else's using a later model 32/33

With 26 you'd be getting the whole loom aswell (i hope you are) then its just a matter of buying GTR upgrade bits like PFC and stuff, nice and easy :)

Everyone doing a RWD conversion needs to modify the sump.

ie. remove the GTR diff and weld the hole

Cool thanks for that nismoid....

but one thing I would like to know is.....is it possible to do this conversion with in a few months ?

Almost all people I have heard of doing an RB26 conversion have taken a year or longer....I cant afford to have my car off the road for so long.

Also I have not seen anyone make any remarks about the weight balance aspects of this conversion and how it affects the car out on the circuit.

Theres nothing to stop you from doing the conversion in a day, if you've got all the nessicary parts, labour, and knowledge. All comes down to good planning...

In terms of weight I'd imagine a RB26 would be marginally heavier than a RB25, due to the extra turbo and associated bits hanging off the side.

And it took me a while to do because i just didnt have the time to do it..

It is very possbile to do in a couple of months.. its mostly time consuming

The wiring is the hardest part.

The engine is a direct fit using gt-t engine mounts - gearbox etc fits up fine

You will need custom cooler piping as well as exhaust as you will now have 2 turbos

Thats all i can think of at the moment.

EDIT:

And for those who want to try and make it 4wd you cant as chassi is different and you cant fit the 4wd box.

Spot on. We were gonna have mine done in 2 weekends till we found it had spat a wheel rear turb wheel... added to that JMS must have stored the motor outside for 11ty billion years as ive never seen such a rust covered motor <_<

Like I said before I have heard that the wiring is a nightmare but is there any sort of wiring diagram available or is it all just guess work ?

and hehe I dont plan to make it a 4WD....I dont need a computer to help me drive.....hhaha well thats my excuse until I can afford an R34 GTR. :lol:

also about the sump....if it needs to be chopped...is that alright for the RB26 motors ?? I heard they need good oil supply especially out on the track and people actually put extended sumps on them...

or am I missing something here ? :D

for the 26 into the 31... its not a "large" job. Wiring is the only main thing. And i need to take to my tunnel with a sledge it seems... cant wait for that part.

other than that, bit of piping mods and stuff. 1k for your old motor out, new one in.

Then maybe $1500 to get all the other fiddle stuff like loom changing/wiring etc. I think 2.5k sounds reasonable for labour costs for a conversion. 3k tops

Could you fit an aftermarket RB25 sump onto an RB26, or do things just not line up?

People always need to baffle the RB26' OEM sump to avoid oil starvation anyway, so rather than arsing about with the OEM sump when you can just stick a nice baffled, finned and possibly winged sump instead?

You have to use the RB26 sump, not an RB25 one.

Thier construction is dfferent.

Just get a fabricator who is expirienced @ welding etc to chop the diff off and weld the hole up basically

y do u HAVE too? i know the rb26 one is much much stronger/rigid, but the rb25 one fits with no mods at all and bolts on like stock (different bolt holes though and its like a sheet of tin :blink: )

saves cost of fabrication work if ya on the cheap :) worked on my rb26 in 2wd no problems, and plenty of other do it that way.

    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny  
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again 
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻

I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
