Hi All,

Im having some isues with my car currently and i was after some advice. The problems i am having are as follows:

1. Fuel Pump is making an audible whirring noise and has done for some time

2. Car is guzzling fuel even on the highway (best i got was about 12L/100km over a 1000km stint and it was reasonably hot day at about 35 deg)

3. The exhaust note of the car has changed significantly recently and it now burbles alot like a WRX does.

Car type: R32 gts-t

Current mods include: pod filter, BOV, hybrid intercooler. Still running standard turbo/boost.

I have a sneaking suspision that my fuel pump is somewhat shagged but i was hoping that someone out there might have experienced something similiar and can lead me to the exact problem.

Cheers

Laine

i get 12L/100kms for highway, 15-16L/100kms for city driving, thats a r33 gts25t, worked engine high boost, but babying it around most of the time, most import thing to note is 550cc injectors and nismo fuel pump

yeah i was gonna say sounds like shes running on 5 cyl... check coil packs (could b a loose plug as this happened to me once)

Thanks guys.

Checking them now but im not sure how to check the pack itself? Any ideas as to the best way to see if they are working? I have checked connections and they all seem ok

Cheers

My money is on a dead coil pack. Simply remove the valley cover and disconnect the coils one at a time while the car is idling till you don't hear a note change in your exhaust. This will atleast find the troubled cylinder. After finding this change the coil from a known working cylinder and see if the cylinder you swapped the coil from now has the problem. If so you have a coil pack that needs replacing. If this doesn't fix the problem remove the spark plugs from the troubled cylinder and check it. It that's fine then it's either your ignitor box or a blocked/troubled injectors.

My money is on a dead coil pack.

Yeh i tried changing them over and the bugger started working again. It appears to work when it wants too so i think i will get it replaced anyway. Anyone got one handy they want to sell?

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
