R34 GTR intercooler fit on a GTT?

Recommended Posts

Pretty sure it'll fit. You've got multiple options with the piping:

  1. Go return flow and run custom return pipe under the cooler to connect to OEM piping. Pros: Legal. Cons: Long runs of piping, reduced ground clearance.
  2. Go GTR style flow and run return pipe through the battery tray, then custom bends to connect to OEM plenum. Pros: Shorter piping. Cons: Defectable.
  3. Go GTR style flow and get a front-facing plenum. Pros: Shortest piping, best performance. Cons: Defectable, expensive.

All that said the least amount of headache would be a ready-made aftermarket return flow intercooler with hard piping, something like Blitz or Cooling Pro. Sell your GTR one for a few $$, buy one of those, fit and plumb it up, trim front bar (and maybe reo) a bit, job done.

Custom piping will get expensive unless you know someone or are good with the welder.

Thanks for the reply mate. Yeah it currently has a front mount with custom piping. The front bar has been grinded back to make it fit and a hole drilled near the battery tray. The cooler came with the car and is some chinese brand. If the gtr cooler is a upgrade then Ill look at the fitment of it. Engine will be coming out soon for a rebuild, so Ill play around with it then. Front facing plenum sounds interesting.. Are they a worthy upgrade? Have heard mixed things about them. Im not to fussed on legality of it as it will be mainly a track car. Probably end up trailering it in the future anyways.

GTR cooler may or may not be an upgrade.  How can we tell when we have no idea about the Chinese one you have.

Seeing as you already have the plumbing in place, if you really really really want to do something, then follow advice above, sell GTR cooler to fund purchase of one that absolutely is known to be better.

FFP are of no use to you unless you are;

  1. making squazzillions of powers and/or,
  2. desperate for the space required to fit a massive top mount turbo, in which case see 1.
