    I don't think the new HKS Duralumin cam gears are as bad as the old ones?

    Are you very mechanically minded? Or any of your mates? You can change the headgasket yourself if you can be bothered ... can't see it being that hard on an SR20 as I did it myself on my RB20 and it wasn't too hard. And it cost me probably $500 all up to do so.

    That's what they always say about GTR's .... Whether or not you can afford to buy it is irrelevant, it's whether or not you can afford to own it. Try putting Redline gearbox oil into it ... lots of people have had great success doing so. Otherwise yeah you might need to pull the box out and get it looked at.
