Internal Mods For More Torque From A Rb25
Tangles replied to The Bogan's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
depends on the budget I wanted more torque, got it, happy with the outcome. headwork, tune, other stuff 2k tomei poncams, 8.8mm tomei springs, head gasket(s) heaps of head gear when aussie $ was 97c-exchange to U$A - $2400 all up was $4500 and got some more parts not yet fitted, still sorting to do - cat is restrictive a little more tune time will yield good results on road it feels so copletley different, I thought like a 3Litre would TBH. so so so smooth power all around, an awesome onroad car. think of a 280kw engine potential package, sitting on a kai-gt2530 journal turbo (slide) holding it back to 220kw gt3071r-iw is next, after sorting the cat and more tuning Im in love with my Stag engine is perfect tbh, starting saving $ as of now for the gt30 fix (cat fix is free ) -
very happy with the package more in it with tuning and derestricing the exhaust darren, 3" all way thru but the cat is robbing 18kw proven on dyno, justjap bellmouth to cat, 3" metalcat, cat back is 3" to gtr kakimoto 3"in/out straight thru muffler Im thinking GT3071r-iw and more tune time, but yes the current slide turbo is holding it back along with the exhaust restriction But very happy with it as a whole, TW Engineering did the head work... and its now so easy to tell that the slide turbo is mismatched (too small; aka journal-gt2530) to this engine ! the engine is tops !! let me know darren when your pulling stuff off, can come round have a chat etc. Just got no $$ for a while now, got to concentrate on the home loan finance seeing I havent been working for half a year now. knees, Disability Support Pension starts Feb. no income for 7months, filled in the pool, got a spa, head work plus parts, lol silly me 1

Ive got everything here for 240awkw for sure got to open up the cat converter exhaust restriction, there was a proven 18kw increase on the dyno with it off. so, must sort that out asap. and yes a properly ecu setup is also a must but, so is a proper ball bearing garrett turbo, probably gt3071r-iw as it is, with piggybacks and mail-order ecu plus Slide cheap hiflow, its doing all right I reckon. top gear top speed .9bar and the engine is only at 3000rpm tho in 3rd gear above speedlimit it really is punhcy, 3000 up thru 6000rpm is sweet as can only imagine what a good turbo would be like, could see 40kw gain from 80kpmh plus Id say the current turbo is letting it down above legal speeds, tested last night on various runs under 120kmph and the machine is a street-dog! there are various Pros and Cons to the current setup the ecu chip has scope for more fuel, plus have the 2x700cc sard setup with HKS AIC-4, I reckon a big tuning session and a better turbo / catconverter would see that 235awkw with these current piggybacks. so many options, so little money. Once a proven auto ecu is out I'll sell all my electronics and go that way. Wont lose out $-wise in the exchange so its all good slide turbo sell $600 buy gt3071r $1800 apexi safc / sitc / Toshi ecu sell $1000 buy ecu+tune $2000 hks aic-4 + 2x700cc intake setup sell $500 buy S15 JDM 480cc $500 decat $- so, need another 2500 to sort it out - in the long run will enjoy it for now, and play a bit more later on. out of budget and frankly very happy with the 36,000$ motor vehicle Ive built up over 4yrs (cost 18 plus mods, tunes, services) edit: 1k gear not fitted

Internal Mods For More Torque From A Rb25
Tangles replied to The Bogan's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
just had my head flowed etc, tomei cams and metal head gasket feels really really nice on road, totally different to how it was pre-xmas the engine has taken over from the turbo so to speak, she's real nice! but the turbo is plainly not up to the task good for what it is, but its gt2835 hunting time -
hey toshi, I see you there plenty more fuel in the tune mate, but held back at 80km - 120kmph in the ecu somewhere all good but
-
yup, new turbo time me thinks too had a 2hr 200km Hills run tonight, the package as a whole is insane and very very quick, but the turbo is mismatched to the engine/auto in top gear @ 3000rpm. pushing the boost at .9bar but at that mark (.9bar, 3000rpm, 110kmph overdrive) its not quite right in 3rd gear the cams are awesome, engine runs thru past 6000 rpm and its beautiful, quick but being held back can feel it, Although, the car as a whole is very very nice to drive. feels mean better turbo & cat will gain 40kw I reckon (got the fueling for it) not disappointed at all, was hoping for around 220kw (does it fine with no cat, dynoed) but 206kw with the cat constricting the boost so its thereabouts come over catch up, yarn and go for a drive>? cheers Bw madaz: very happy honestly, but yeah tonight showed the turbo is peaking at 220kw(no-cat vs 206with cat) frankly alls good for a $600 turbo, 3yrs old now
-
nice stag but
-
went for a 2hr 200km spin over my old Hills roads wow, very quick. the cams are the beezkneez such a different engine its an awesome package, heaps quick in the Hills unbelievably so !

Rb25 Turbo Upgrade, All Dyno Results
Tangles replied to Nacho Vidal's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
cat converter is holding it back power wise, resulting in boost drop still. will fix that up next tune midyear and be happy with it for a while see link for mods list http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Fi...Of-t252849.html -
Not wrong type gary, just bad luck? Im told they were frozen then tapped in, one has made a bulge of sorts when expanded, resulting in a micro crack. as far as Im aware hasnt been xrayed but swapped and left with the tuner. no charge. was fully pressure tested and ok there, but spat oil. fixable / patchable I reckon. end result was a new head being decked out for me, but just one of those things. was a 7.5 week job but nothing but praise for the tuner (Boost Worx) fantastic on the road. beautiful end result, very punchy, pulls hard, & isnt held up anywhere - on the road cat converter is holding it back power wise, resulting in boost drop still. will fix that up next tune midyear and be happy with it for a while http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Fi...Of-t252849.html

the intercooler is only 380mm long, made for 180sx sr20 & rb20's although I doubt I'll be touching anything for a while, the only thing to look at is the cat feels awesome on road, like a punchy 3litre, purrs while idling, and of course the shift kit is loving the mix! very very nice shifts, ecu is km unlimited and set for a higher redline, doesnt miss a beat from 3000rpm onwards happy with the mv auto shift kit without doubt, very happy with the engine too ! probably need a gt2835 tho
-
yes yeah the plenum/throttle-body is mainly a pipe dream. the ecu is still holding it back, as is the cat converter (tested), perhaps the fmic as well runs so nice tho, but yes another 20kw to find
-
Need better cat-converter, this one is holding back 10kw and resulting in loss of boost at top end. More tuning management, such as a fresh remap even (will speak to Toshi), would result in using more fuel top end and another 10kw. Then the additional injector setup & tuning. Maybe better FMIC with a Greddy plenum. 206kw being held back tho. ahaha's ! lol how's it all going???? good luck on pickup, going to be a good fun trip I still remember the day I grabbed mine, flew to brissy, got picked up, test drove, did a deal, dropped car off at freighters (following sellers dad in crazy mx5 slip-thru-traffic style; he was showing off, almost had an accident & fight at lights, then congratulated me on keeping up - LOL), taxi to airport then home. week later got the car from the freighters. would have prefered to drive the car home but knees, room etc (since extended the seat rails) best of luck oh and to nick too ^^ lol our 5yr old is a terror atm but the 3yr old is a cutie fun fun
-
meh no big deal, stupid thing is he got caught !!! pick your time, your place, and no one is in any danger whatsoever slide: how you going aaron? havent slept for 3 days cause the knees are ruined. just missionary position ruins me for a week !
-
ooo getting excited should be p/up tonight, I hope.... just waiting for that phonecall arghhh!
-
My turbo oil line is braided from Pirtek. The water line is stock. My auto oil cooler line is braided from Davies Craig. My brake lines are braided from Maltech. ^^ this work exceeds stock standards so I cant see how its possible to be classed ultimately as illegal modifications thats the thing, Ive got a massive list of mods but could only count a couple that need to be engineered. doing that atm, pretty much.

Stewy's story here (post 154) is why this meeting could be the start of something big, something important. Look, i havent been pulled over, not even for breatho, in around EIGHT years. & there are reasons for that Im sure. But I want to support ppl like stewy here who have had a hard time, all for nothing, due to the misinformation that exists between adr rules, officials (law, police, regency) and the public; the end users. I really feel for rocky88 too... here to help. Sled, hope you reconsider mate. One percisive comment or a little ingenious input could be just the thing that ensures cars like Vu (air filter), stewy and rocky88's situation dont happen again, whether thats RB engined Nissans or old VW Beetles. The general public would benefit, no BULLSHIT defect crap from the police but actual POLICE work. you know, POLICE work. pull people over and suss THEM out not defect the car just because you 'think' you can. here to help.
-
yeah isnt easy being 6ft8" car being fired up tommoz, legs crossed all goes well this time (different head)
-
davies craig do kits from around $110 ? using a kit on the automatic gearbox but not engine oil, not as yet. good radiator taking care of that at this stage, even with a journal bearing turbo

Problem With Trader Sliding Performance
Tangles replied to fr33sty13's topic in General Automotive Discussion
nothing but awesome dealings with Sliding performance. last deal was Tomei poncams and had them within 1.5 weeks of ordering, great service IMHO the turbo I bought 3 yrs ago took a cple months for delivery, but I was ok with that as wasnt in a rush and was kept in touch all along. dunno about others, always been a pleasure for me to deal with Sliding performance; (edit: also got coilpacks from slide) .... the turbo had a 1yr warranty & she's still sweet. the cams shoulndt be an issue. the cam spring lifters were from Slide too, just thru an onseller who bought, reconsidered and onsold the order to me. keep trying to contact them, perhaps via the webpage address they have too? good luck -
good brake mods for series 1 and 2, not too full-on but good nevertheless: * new $150 set front/rear brake pads * braided brake lines, maltech or your local specialist * engine swaybar/suspn mounted master cylinder brake stopper * DBA slotted rotors, front only on mine good pads with crisp bite on slotted rotors, with awesome pedal feel & no movement in the lines and/or master cylinder all up around $600ish, stock calipers stock rear disc
-
awesome how are the cams? sound horn? awaiting mine back from the tuners, might call em see whats up need 2 hear it :)1
-
yes, i use Brake Cleaner but essentially the same thing
-
yeah what he ^ said. try snow mode, torque split button, manual shifting? so wish SA had a strip. this sux that we've got shit all. so just a cat back and max boost (as mine came when I got her from qld almost 4yrs ago) gets 15.4 Im pretty sure thats the same time CoolPC did.... http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Ni...50#entry4366250 Im sure mine would do low 13 now (duno?) but just wont know until there's a track here in adelaide.
