  1. Not my car but with a car... Hiring a Porsche in 2006 before the World Cup and driving 400km to the Nurburgring, spending 4 days visiting and lapping the Ring, and then the drive back to return the car. I survived the Ring without crashing (at least 2 people died and possibly another 2 did as well the Sunday I was there - all in separate accidents), I hit 250kmph legally on the German autobahns and felt completely safe doing it, and I ticked off one item of my list of 'Things to do before I die'. ... and then I went to the World Cup!
  2. I hate the fact that I crashed my GTR on 20th June 2008 AND IT"S STILL NOT READY!!! ****ing incompetent people that make me want to invest in a baseball bat. Multiple this rant by 1000 and that's where I'm at... plus 1
  3. Plus Porsche don't spend any money on design. All their cars are from the same DNA as a car designed over 40 years ago! The statement that Porsche are the most profitable car manufacturer in the world (per car) and not withstanding the stock market events of November last year came from an English journalist years ago who just divided net profit by cars manufactured. Porsche rebutted this claim by pointing out that their posted net profit included revenue from the sale of accessories (caps, ties, pens etc) and 'other' means.
  4. Not sure where I read this so I'm unable to provide a link to support this claim... But I remember reading that Nissan trialed many (hundreds IIRC) different tyres from many different companies to find the tyre best suited to the GTR (& it's aim to beat the Porsche 911 Turbo). For this reason and effects on vehicle performance they are perhaps more anal than ever on specific tyres and their relation to warranty protection. What is perhaps more interesting though is that on GTR Blog some people achieved quicker lap times running 18" rims & rubber than the 20s. I can't find the exact article but it's from here http://www.gtrblog.com/
  5. I don't like being up this early on a Saturday...all the freaks are out!
  6. Happy birthday Flick! I hope you had a great day and got lots of prezies. Good luck for your next lap around the sun.
  7. Their full model name is BBS LM ACQ for Air Craft Quality. Not quite unobtainium but bloody expensive. Here are the prices from BBS Japan where they are made: http://www.bbs-japan.co.jp/pro/pro_i.html Do the currency conversion, add shipping & customs + mark up and you'll find the 20" for the R35 GTRs are much dearer. 1st - I own a R32 GTR and all 4 wheels need to be the same size. I damaged 2 so only needed to replace a pair of 18x10 +20. My tyres are too wide for 18x9. 2nd - I didn't get ripped off. I'm insured. The insurance company is paying for them. This is the website for the Australian BBS distributor - check out the prices for the LMs. http://www.amgaustralia.com/AMG/ The point of my original post was to help jonnyo and potential buyers in pointing out how much a set of these would cost brand new and the waiting time for delivery. His are in good nick so his price is very reasonable. I'm still waiting for my pair to arrive from Japan. Good luck with the sale.
  8. If you had put these up for sale 4 months ago I would have bought them in a heartbeat! These wheels are worth $2040 each brand new and have a 3 month wait to get them. I know this because I ordered a pair last year and am expecting them in March.
  9. IBTL? I know what it means. I know when it's used. I just don't see the point. It is a blatant whoring post. Are kudos given for a IBTL post? Does it mean that you are so wise that you can tell when a thread will be locked... and... decide to contribute nothing other than raise your post count. I just don't get it
  10. For my reference.
  11. I assume that Officer Neil and all other police (and uninvited guests) present will contribute to the fund raising...
  12. The offset is +20. You can see it on the 3rd photo.
  13. Thanks for your response - I was beginning to think no-one from SAU lived in Darwin. I deferred for a year and asked to still be considered for my higher preferences. It will take me a year to get my house in a state to be able to rent it out (which I'd need to cover the mortgage). Good to get a name for someone who can work on GTRs in Darwin though - cheers. I'm sure we could swap cars (my 32 for your 34) at some stage although I wouldn't need to move in to do so. Stuck up women eh... I could probably cope with that...
  14. I currently have an old wall mounted a/c going (on high) and 3 fans and it is still 31.9 degrees in my lounge room... and my bedroom is even hotter!
  15. I didn't list them (as I count them as an essential part and was just listing extras) but I used Tomei conrod bolts - $205 Also remember that you will need a dyno tune after so remember to include that in your total cost estimate.
  16. To give you an idea of the extra prices of my R32 GTR engine rebuild that was finished early 2008 not included in the list of major parts: Engine balancing & machining - $1250 Head reconditioning - $700 Crank pulley bolt & washer - $20 Crankshaft bush - $18 Key x2 - $5 Oil filter - $15 Idler pulley - $286 Spark plugs x6 (platinum tipped) - $160 Front diff side seal - $15 Engine mount x2 - $170 Shim machining - $10 Rubber plugs x2 - $15 Washers x20 - $50 Gearbox crossmember bushes - $40 Silicon hose - $5 Clamps x4 - $10 Gear lever boot - $18 Coolant x3 - $35 Front diff oil - $30 Power steering oil - $18 Hicas oil - $9 Injector seals & O rings - $40 Motul oil 300V - $118 Motul oil 4100 - $60 New battery - $95 Total: $3192 My total labour bill was over $6000 but I had a lot of new stuff fitted.
  17. Good work on the list Adam! I'm still playing COD4 but am SICK of getting shafted because of the lag. I'll try coordinate a time for a SAU grudge match. Look for invitations in your inbox.
  18. Hello all, After a crap 2007/8 recovering from a car crash I decide to go back to uni in 2009 and do another degree. My 3rd preference was a Bachelor of Exercise & Sport Science at Charles Darwin Uni and I was offered this course. The only people I know in Darwin are my aunt & uncle who would probably let me stay with them short term but ultimately I'd need my own place. I have until Friday 23rd January to respond to the offer. If I accept then I have <6 weeks to pack up, find a tenant and move! My questions are: Is Charles Darwin uni any good? Has anyone on SAU done or currently doing this specific degree? Is it easy to find accommodation near CDU? Is there a decent import scene in Darwin? Is it easy to get a heavy modified GTR serviced and tuned (PFC) in Darwin? What are the police like in treating import drivers? Are there many decent single chicks in Darwin aged 24-34? I'd appreciate any answers to the above questions as it is a pretty big decision to make in not much time. Thanks
  19. Cheers for the links CRoNic! And when did we change mods? Was there a vote? Was there a ceremony? Did it involve rituals with the Ban Stick?
  20. link?
  21. Really need some photos to see the two different sets on your specific car to cast a vote. However, from a purely safety point of view, LEDs supposedly illuminate quicker than standard globes and therefore reduce the reaction time of the person behind you. This should give them greater braking distance and reduce the possibility or impact of a rear end collision. I have read this but can't recall where to provide a link & CBF searching right now. I won't say it is FACT but I am under the impression that it is true...however I have been wrong before. I would probably say keep the LEDs but really want to see photos (day & night) before casting my vote.
  22. Why? Was it off the road due to needing repairs? Or are you saying that you never REALLY drove it as a GTR was designed to be driven? and welcome.
  23. Mmmmm... I really should go to one of these before my liver goes on permanent strike. Was a t-shirt design agreed upon in the end?
  24. Thanks for that ^ Troy.
  25. Sold to me - stay away peoples! Looks like my car is getting another Christmas present... and I was sure I told Santa it had been naughty this year.
