  1. I did a FAQ on most of this you know. did you look at the stickies up top ?? as for TV- depends on what you want it to do. the OE gear is useless. the OE navi has no maps and the only thing that is really being done on it (with no visible result yet) is the firmware rewrite. if all you want to do is watch TV then I suggest you go buy a new tuner for it and be done with it. if you have unlimited funds - CAR PC. Im researching a replacement unit now that is car PC based but the issue I'm having is screens (look at the TS navi thread I started.) tell us what you want it to do and from there we'll help.
  2. its easier if you do buy a stock one. compliance becomes a bit easier.
  3. you have sent it US POST. that may vary between 2-3 weeks depending on weight. if it was air mail then 8-10 days is the norm- where was it coming from? also make sure you dont get nailed by customs on it. that $1000 saving could turn out costly. I'm still battling that side of things with a package Ex japan right now.
  4. it that car at brians?
  5. http://www.audioexpress.com.au/shop/HOS/pa...32-audio-01.htm click that. the owner is on here somewhere.
  6. ok - using the OE screen is out as far as I'm concerned. size of screen (6.9" diagonal) stops me from finding an overlay that fits. I can get one done but at $800 a shot and a minimum of 5000 I dont see it happening for the 2001-2004 cars. I do have a rough price on the replacement system (box only no screen) and that comes in at $2kish loaded.
  7. google creative electronics in botany bay also radar.co.nz you sound like me btw. small tickets that add up to a full points loss.
  8. should have it fully sorted by the weekend.
  9. last one I did was $400. may as well do the window motor whilst you are in there. that will be next. the lock motors I can get.
  10. I'm suspecting a dead door lock motor myself.
  11. I know of 4 shops here in SEQ that are either doing them or doing submissions for them. yep they are definitly going ahead. one shop dropped the Elgrand to do them.
  12. as I understand it. car have EVERYTHING orgainsed before it leaves the docks. so dereg papers, import approval, customs clearance,RAW and from there away you go. who (RAW) have you asked and is this going through a broker? that said I have seen cars go to private houses first and then dropped at a RAW. the first method I understand to be correct.
  13. ok I see audio only. that would make sense from a portable standpoint. I do not see video out being an option on it. prove me wrong though. I know that a Zen will spitout whatever is on the screen.
  14. the OE screen stays I'll know more this week on the whole idea.
  15. 2005 + . I have your one here in bits doing measurements on it currently. customer didnt want it back so I got it. that one will be a test mule for a LOT of other things..
  16. good idea! so what does it spit out - audio only - video , both?
  17. its a full rework unless I can get more info on the GVN53 units. garmin aren't too forthgiving with that info.. current box I have in mind is entirely different. overlays are proving to be a pain as the early screens ARE NOT a true 7" screen.
  18. for the NAVI version - yes there is a AUX in and I usually have the leads on hand for it. Ipod lead that I use does have AUX in on it. there is also a 8pin AUX in on there as well (both bose and plain units have this) that I'll get around to making a DIY lead for. that will allow direct line into the unit regardless of navi or not. non navi is easier for me to do. the later 06 had BT and the USDM ones had MP3. as for a retrofit. not me.. depends - the radio is cheaper to fix than to replace the lot. think panels , leads, controls - then a new radio on top. last few I have done were in the 900-975 area. S2 radio they changed the CD mech. haven't had to do one of these yet but I do PLENTY of the earlier PN2414/13 versions.
  19. jon, if you can do without your ipod for a few days I'd like to pull your screen so I can do some fiddling.
  20. up to you.I have a 2003 version and the whole lot has been changed. source wont be the cleanest thing. if I was doing that car I would start from scratch. that said you only have $1k to play with. I did a $1k job yesterday. 10" prefab box clarion APX1301 (300W mono amp), clarion SRW1051(10" sub), Clarion CZ209A (cd/mp3/ipod) and used the stock speakers. if you were to do the radio -clarion DUZ386 would do it ($400 or so.) and add the BT dongle. that or go the whole hog with a MAX686BT.(dvd/bt/usb) toyota use a funky mounting system on those cars so the mounts will have to be done before you do the speakers. would suggest doing the front speakers (since you are not going to be facing the rear window whilst driving) instead of the back ones. the stock F10 unit powers 4 speakers and thats it. no RCA out or the like. that should give you something to chew on.
  21. anyone know where I can find an overlay that is 152X90mm and 6-7/8" diagonal measurement. need a USB out as well. thoughts?
  22. need to borrow one for about a week. if you are using it for something then you will loose that feature. this is to do with my touchscreen idea. got one ? let me know.
  23. Danny (sydney) its still at concept stage - not likely to go into production for at least 8-12 months. in that time I'll probably rework it 3-4 times to get it stable. so if you are going to buy a car based on this alone - dont.
  24. it would be a all in one box. no splitting it up. I have the other unit here now. picked it up this morn. it would be a rework on some of the cars. rianto. it would fix your volume issue as well ( I now have a FULL navi setup out of an 03 so thats what I'm basing this on.)
