  1. Saw a silver coupe with what looked like black chrome xt7's across from the lights at me on dandy rd. only saw him at last moment but gave a wave.
  2. bewdiful, were these the meisters that were for sale on JDMST - brand new in the box still? They were a steal!
  3. yeh definitely can't be a rushed job - or else you will be doing it again in no time. I am starting to think I will need to take the calipers off if I want to get a job done that i'm happy with- if only I could get a set of 'exchange' Brembos that didn't cost a ballsack - I could paint them and swap them on in a couple of hours. That purple paint is most definitely Duplicolor Metalcast Purple. You can buy it a SuperCheap Auto - costs about $20 a can, and you have to buy the primer - also about $20 a can. You only need one of each to do a set of 4 calipers.
  4. What was the price? I'm sure as these cars become more popular this will be less of an issue. Pretty much your panels, glass and head lights are the only areas of concern when it comes to parts availability. The rest you can just go to your local Nissan dealer and ask for a 350Z part number.
  5. I'll grab some teal paint after work today - do a test run. But also maybe spearmint would look cool. Had a vision that it would look good, especially with some small highlights to tie it in to the rest of the car. An interesting thing for people reading this thread in the future, I've done a lot of reading and it is widely written that you don't have to use high temp paint for the calipers UNLESS you track your car. I have always used high temp paint and it is frustrating how few colours are available. But people have tried and tested street driven cars with just a conventional paint and confirmed a street driven car won't generate the temperatures that will bubble the paint. This means you can use any off the shelf paint - which increases your colour options about a million times over. Another method is to put down a basecoat of white high temp paint, go over with your choice of any conventional colour, and seal the decals on with high temp clear. I would at least recommend high temp clear, as i've seen conventional clear coats go yellow on wheels before - so assume same would happen to brakes.
  6. I think this shot seals the deal - same flat grey as my rims
  7. if there is little to no price difference between Just Cars and Shannons - i'd go Shannons in a heartbeat. Shannons = Choice of repairer. Just Car = you go through AAMI's 'quoting' system at their assessment centre or through their 'authorised repairers' and they chose the cheapest quoting repairer. No more consideration needs to be given.
  8. yeah - i did some reading on windscreens before i purchased mine. Next to impossible to find. One story in particular of a company saying 'yeh we've got it' - brought the car in, broke the OEM windscreen taking it out - only to find out their 'replacement' did not fit - wrong size by many cms. Customer spent months waiting on a windscreen ex-Japan. Which is why i decided to include window cover on my insurance policy......
  9. Hi Geoff, my bad. Seems like two points is sufficient. Here are the requirments The features of an AS/NZS 4601:1999 certified system include: • automatic immobilisation within 40 seconds of switching off your engine; • two independent points of immobilisation; • connections enclosed in security housing; • all black security wiring; • flashing dashboard LED to indicate that the system is armed; and • secure owner PIN override.
  10. I think the Teal blue looks awesome though.......matched to gold rotor top hats and gold lug nuts? Update: the metallic teal is powdercoat. I can't really be shagged removing the calipers, dissasembling them and sending them away for powdercoating. Even though it looks awesome, and would be very durable. VHT does a colour called Torque 'n' Teal - which is close, but doesn't have metallic in it. Might buy some and do some test painting on something metal to see how it comes out.
  11. I think the EVO brakes fade when they've had a hard life. Even if you resprayed properly, regardless of colour, I reckon 5 years would be an expected lifespan for them to stay looking fresh before you needed to re-do them - but hey - probably time for a colour change anyway! The anodized red does look nice. I used MetalCast Duplicolor - it's a two stage system, metallicf silve basecoat then the red candy top coat - you can vary the depth of the colour by the amount of layers you do. Pics on my Stagea:
  12. Yeh - I like the grreen too. But it's got to be right. I have seen an EVO with Ford Focus RS iridiescent green on it, looks amazing, but it's a tri-color paint that needs to be done profesionally - I need something out of a can. VHT does Kermit Green though, and I reckon with a white or silver base coat it would get some nice colour. No - no purple. There will be no purple lol. Or hot pink.
  13. hey guys, I am thinking about giving my brembos a freshen up. They've copped a few stone chips over time, and since I put the 17's on which clear them by about 1mm one of them must have got scraped either during installation of wheels or through some flex under load. They are currently the OEM Gold colour - I have some touch up paint in the mean time - but it's not a perfect match as you can't buy Brembo gold anywhere. So i'm thinking of doing a complete colour change. What do you think would look best on a white car with flat gunmetal grey rims? I want something that will 'pop' - so silvers, greys and golds are kinda out. Here are some options I like - comments welcome - but any suggestions for other colours would be good too. Candy Blue Metalcast Anodized Red (did this colour before - looks ok but bit 'played out' IMO). Pearl Orange Metallic Teal Kermit Green Tiffany Blue
  14. bit of info on LCT and general price gouging by the luxury manufacturers. http://news.drive.com.au/drive/motor-feature/a-quick-buck-the-high-price-of-luxury-downunder-20110415-1dgy7.html
  15. mine is insured with RACV no problems. the stock immobiliser is not compliant - it has to have three points of immobilisation (AS/NZS 4601:1999). I think some M35 stageas have a compliant immobiliser, but they'd be one of the few grey imports that do. An aftermarket immobiliser is cheap - and not worth losing your car and your claim over. Other insurance options you'd have would be a full alarm system that incprorates an immobiliser - but obviously going to be more expensive and still needs to be compliant. Beyond that, you can add GPS tracking - which would make your car pretty safe! And IN before someone says 'if they want your car etc etc'..........
  16. that seems to be the standard spring rate they offer - it will be stiffer than OEM. I nearly bought a set last night! Need a project for the xmas break ;-)
  17. more likely that their market is much much larger leading to better economies of scale and increased purchasing power for the consumer. But probably the biggest impact on pricing in Australia is the 30% LCT (luxury car tax) we put on top of the 10% GST tax - that's 40% of the cost of the car in taxes alone.
  18. Just Jap Auto. In Kirawee. But they will freight to anywhere in aus for free.
  19. 20mm ground clearance?!?
  20. Thanks Yun. The fronts will stick out an extra 10mm. With a 235 they will clear the guards fine. And they are hyper disk fronts, so plenty of brake clearance. Rears sit at exactly the same point - just more inner clearance. They actually came off a v35 according to the translated ad. Tyres are Nittos but the rears are shot. They will be replaced.
  21. BC does have a good rep for adjustability and ride - but there are always horror stories if you so a quick google. On the most part I have read good things. Example, I was looking for coilovers for my e39 BMW and all the M5 owners said BC was best, even over bilstein and KW. But every car has different valving requirements and they might nail one car and miss with the setup on another. I would buy them - the pricing is good. Only thing I'd suggest is that Pedders and Tein are the only ADR approved coilovers, and also the only coilovers that can bbs readily rebuilt. Beyond that, rubber mounted bearings in thw top hats are definitely what you want for the street. Pillow mounts are noisy and crash about - race use only.
  22. Cheers, yes through Aaron at import monster. The jist of it is, register an account, search using their English translated interface with yahoo.jp, if you find something you like you transfer min 50% expected sale proce as a deposit into your own account and bid away. If you win, you must transfer the remaining amount into the account. Import monster pays the seller - and you sit back and what for your items to arrive. Aaron is very helpful and although I've only bought small stuff before, he has always been very patient and quick with answering all my questions. The hardest part is finding what you want - the options are endless!
  23. lived up to your name on this one huh.... there is a thread, literally in front of your eyes on the first page of this section of the forum.
  24. Hey Yun - about 3 hours after I picked up the stockies from you I won a set on Yahoo Japan that I had been keeping my eye on. They are SSR SP3 20x9(+6), 20x10(+16).
  25. Thanks for the offer but I've got a set of 17 inch stockers on there as of tonight. I changed 4 rims in 35 degree heat in under an hour using the scissor jack.......it was rough. Ill be on the 17s for about 8 weeks while import monster brings my replacement rims in ;-)
