hey mate i stripped mine down few months ago and gave em a clean up. followed DIY that someone put up possibly same as the one you posted but i cracked 2. said to put on solid surface and hit the top but this dented the tops and cracked the sides. the simple solution was to hold each lifter with index and ring fingers down the sides in the groove and middle finger over the top. then line it up square with a hard surface(i used an anvil) then give it a tap until you learn how much force it takes to pop them(actually not that much if the surface is solid enough). then gently with pliers pull out the barrel. also in the DIY i went off it said to put all the parts in tin of cleaner but i didnt want to mix them all up and i wasnt going to do this exersize for 24 days. so i used a fishing tackle kit which swelled up a bit but worked well. mine are still in same kit soaked in oil til i get round to putting it back together. soaking in mineral spirits then i scrubbed them all cleaned up then i filled container with oil

Some People Should Never Be Allowed To Work On Cars
t_revz replied to sinistaGTR's topic in General Maintenance
my work ute is through a fleet company so we have to let the peanuts at ford or nissan do repairs. 1- had it booked in at ford for a service and told them was all good but needed a new headlight cover. was filthy when i took it in but had worked 14 hrs day before and didnt have time to wash it. well they washed it for me AFTER fitting the headlight cover over the filthy headlight. couldnt believe it when i got there. shiny white and polished. black tyres and a completely brown headlight on LH side. 2- same place next service. told them all belts were worn and sqeaking in the mornings when cold. service was completed but belts not replaced or even adjusted. Rang fleet company and vented and asked if i could carry out the repair. they said no.rang ford and vented and was told to bring back to do belts immediately. by the time i got there (about 3km) it had dropped 1 alternator belt and air con belt. guy says to me " gee mate you shouldnt be driving it round with belts missing" 3- same place few services back. started squealing on boost after going through a wash pad on minesite. rang ford and asked if they could replace exhaust manifold while getting serviced. came back from service with same squeal. went straight back and asked service manager why it wasnt done. he said they found nothing wrong and wasnt needed. went to car park and pulled heat shield off turbo and manifold then dragged him out to look at the 2 inch crack i have also resorted to writing faults on inside of windscreen in texta as sometimes they say they didnt know about the faults i listed when dropping off -

the hook through the popper isnt the strongest but with a bit of drag usually dont have any dramas. they are well worth the effort. be funny as if your the only one in your group who cleans up. heard of heaps caught at cheneys beach right next to cape rich so you should have plenty around ya.
-
10-15 is fine. did you already get poppers...not just any old popper will do get the geoff wilson surf popper rig if you havent already. and dont forget to change hooks. got 18kms yesterday and today from cape riche and 30 from bremer bay. bloody boss booked me into jerramungup pub and not bremer. i was spewing. had all my gear packed ready. didnt have time to trek down there at all. im going down next week for a few days once most people go back to work. 3 days annual leave to get 10 off total

couple guys at work are always asking when my car will be finished and back on the road. sometimes they hang shit and sometimes interested talking about the car as they dont know much about imports. other day one guy comes up to me and says he has decided my car is now a piece of crap and waste of time as someone went to drifts and saw a 33 with an LS1. then explaining why would i want some turbo 6 crap when i could have a real engine put in it... -
unfortunately going to bremer bay for work mon and tues so hoping to wet a line. gotta get as many as possible before the city folk come down at Easter and swarm the beaches

well finally got down on the beach on the weekend with the boys in search of salmon. twas like easter with all the cars up the bloody beach. got about 2kms up when i spotted a school about 15m wide but sitting 70+ metres out. we went up 200m in front of them and rigged up. but unfortunately when they got just before us they split up and disapeared. tried for a while but no good. went up the beach further to better spot and was a fish head cut off from a 7-8Kg salmon. hour of two and few stubbies later and BAM. two of the guys got tangled together with a fish on the other end. they got it in but it came off as a wave was coming in. i was on my way over to help and as it came off the hook i jumped on top of it and held it til the water retracted. weighed in at 4.8Kg 5 mins later and another but only 2kg. no more before dark. had a very very messy night with lots of beer/port and wrestling and i ended up reproducing the port and wasnt up for fishing in the morning. the others had a go but nothing around. saw lots heads on the beach on the way out so the other people down there went ok. they are around but i think just out a touch too far on this occasion. hopefully when i go again at easter or before i have better luck. ps both fish were caught on "the popper" and port is now banned on fishing trips

my pump leaked out of the tell tale hole twice in 3 months while it was parked up for 2 weeks each time when i was away working. the day i finally saw it first hand it was a fast drip almost a stream. must depend on pump position when engine is stopped. never leaked when running
-
Cant take it back to them to fix it?? i doubt they replaced a fuse box for ecu install? have you checked fuses yourself? im coming up late next week for a course and will be driving my field service ute up. not making any promises as my granddad is sick and unsure what time it finishes each day. let me know if you can wait that long and ill try keep you posted

She went well for a year then i moved to Japan for 8 months and left her parked up.When i got back just needed a new battery and service and was good to go. Put some new belts on for good measure. Back into FIFO work and noticed after arriving back one time the temp shot up when i began going home. Turned around back to my mates and threw the hose at it and cooled it down. Was just over 100c. Kept an eye on it but no further problems. 3 months later same thing. Got 2-3 kms from mates and temp went up this time reached 119c. This time appeared to be empty. No further problem. Went to a mates work to book in 4 cooling pressure test etc but while chatting she started dripping and found water pump leaking from tell tale. Bought a new pump and belt and put it in. Unfortunately when i put the CAS in i mustnt have been concentrating as it went in a tooth out and broke the locator. Lined in up and started ok. No dramas for 6 months or so then one day got back from a drive and 10 seconds after shutting it off it let out a big bang(backfire). Was still running ok. A month later it happened again and began backfiring when decelarating but only slightly. booked it in at Xspeed but couldnt get in for 2 weeks. Kept driving it as i had plans down south. Was good on cruise but now didnt enjoy accel or decel. 3 days before it was due to be checked was going up a long steep hill nearby and it let out a terrible scream. pulled over to find turbo was glowing white and harnesses were melting. YAY. Towed it to Xspeed. Turbine fins were shredded, manifold warped, 8 or 9 ex studs broken, etc etc. Got all the necessary new bits fitted and some troubleshooting to find out the cause was a crack in CAS bracket that was opening up and throwing the timing out.I must have stressed it when i put CAS in previously a tooth out. While there i also got Z32 AFM, Nismo fuel Reg, Nismo 740cc injectors and new fuel pump. was happy with the 308.5 rwhp it now was producing even as the engine was tired and had endure some hard times Went good for another year but was still using some oil. about 500ml every service. Compression was 125psi cylinders 1-5 and 6 was 120. Finally bought the missus a new car and i had a work car now so i could afford to take it off the road and give it a birthday. -

These were taken the next day after putting it back together I moved back to WA soon after and gave it a service before back on the dyno to get it re-tuned for 98. managed 284.5 rwhp and was told they had changed plugs but had a slight miss and likely coils at fault. ordered some splitfires and fitted which seemed to fix the missfire which had slightly got worse. only 275 this time. not sure why but they never cranked it up and boost was down just a touch but confirmed missfire was completely gone. -
yeah i run a baitfeeder and have used live herring but i find the poppers to be better and less work. and i dont wanna be wasting time catching herring when the big boys are around

going down this Sat morning overnight so will keep ya posted. got excited and pulled out all my gear for clean up and prep...Cant wait. make sure to tell your mates if you destroy them its natural ability and not the poppers lol
-
so you swapped with known working globes? ie left to right... im not sure where the join would be from front to rear. think on my 33 the join is in the cab. have you got a multimeter to check voltage at the lamps? if there was a bad connection you may get a voltage reading with all front globes and side removed. leaving globes connected might kill that reading as it bogs down what can squeeze through the bad connection. if you could get a signal then you could move or shake harness and look for voltage increase/decrease to pin point area. i would imagine the flasher switch only has 1 output for each side then it splits off to front/rear and dash but maybe has 2 contacts and its the switch at fault...
-
so your front right and side doesnt work at all, but rear does? even if the globes dont look blown hold them up to light and flick it and the element will likely shake around
-
how much of the exhaust is 3"?
-
not sure on that model but on mine from memory it is in the bottom of radiator and has a bright green plug...
-
forgot to mention i get them at BCF but have seen other places. Geoff Wilson tangle free surf popper rig and has Salmon as the only targeted species...
