Looking at building a 11sec R33, This may help you
Merli replied to RNS11Z's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Yeah for sure... That would have been a surprise to see a split exhaust manifold... Could it have been a Trust exhaust manifold or are you sure it was custom? Pics would be great The only thing this thread is missing -

What a ridiculous thing to say. So you'd be happy with the Habib Barbie to go and build a quad rotor twin turbo PINK BMW and claim it's got 500,000 hp and the potential to do 4 second quarters???? Fcuk actually going to the track then. Lets close down WSID, cos actually drag racing is a waste of time. We already know what all the cars can theoretically do because we know what power they make. I'll just put my car on the dyno and it "has the potential to do 10s"... Why waste time and money actually doing it? Everyone KNOWS it has the potential to do it... I'll answer that for you actualy. Why do it? Because there's a WORLD of difference in making the power capable of doing a pass, and actually setting up your car and having the skill to pilot it down the 400m for that 10 second pass. It's not just about making the power. It's about launching the car perfectly, changing gears properly (not as straight forward as you might think), getting the right suspension settings, getting the right tyre choice, MAKING THE CAR RELIABLE so it can do the 10 second pass without smashing the gearbox, snapping a driveshaft, teething a differential, blowing the engine, etc etc... and most importantly: HAVING THE SKILL TO ACTUALLY DO IT. No point in having 500hp if you can't drive for sh1t. Cliffnotes: -
Wow.... What vague event organisation. I'm not going to add this to the calendar due to next to no information given.... Not even a destination

From your first post, I read that you bought the car with a Garrett GT30, and a custom exhaust manifold... I assumed that the exhaust manifold was made for the GT30? But obviously not if it was a 6-2 design!!! That's extremely interesting... Do you have any pics by any chance? -

Interesting thread I must agree that it was a very curious choice of thread title  Also, you state that people have been commenting on the fact that you made less power with the larger T88-33D Turbo... Can I suggest that it might have something to do with your, I quote "modified exhaust manifold"? I don't think people (in general) really realise the effects of exhaust flow dynamics on turbo operation... You can't just grab your old exhaust manifold, weld on a split flange and whack a T88-33D onto it!!! The T88-33D has a twin scroll exhaust housing, and it is designed to recieve pulsed exhaust gasses through a 6-into-2 exhaust manifold grouping... I am of course, assuming many things about your setup. -

Is it just me or is the market for selling a skyline really crap?
Merli replied to Bleach1's topic in New South Wales
No, there's a difference between a company that goes through the trading post's "Second week running" list and ringing up all the owners pretending that they have an interested buyer just so they can get your car on their lot, and a REPUTABLE dealer who sells cars on a consignment basis when approached by customers wanting to sell. It sold for $37,000 through Unique Autosports. -
I think there's a difference between being strapped down nice and tight and just experienceing the G-forces of a 260km/h - 0km/h decelleration and being in a car that smashes into another car head on, with flying glass and metal all around you, not to mention this big chunk of uncompressable metal, being the engine, being forced through the firewall into your waiting stomach.

Which Tyres for street GTR
Merli replied to meshmesh's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I run 265/35ZR18 Bridgestone S03s all round on my R33 and they only get an "ok" rating from me. Not worth the money IMHO. They went from a 120 treadwear rating from the S02s to a 180 treadwear rating for the S03s. They're a much harder tyre and aren't as sticky as the older S02s. On the road, they're perfect as I drive pretty sedately, and in the wet they're unbeatable. Extremely good water dispersion and road holding. But on the race track, forget it. Don't waste your time. Admittedly I'm used to Dunlop D01J semi-slicks, but I still expected more grip from these S03s. They were ABYSSMAL. -
I think you'd be hard pressed to walk away from an effective 260km/h head-on crash in ANY vehicle

You take offence where there's none to be taken If we didn't want Western suburbs SAU'ers to join us, why would we even consider going to restaurants out west? I merely meant that even if we did more the dinners out west, I fear that they still wouldn't come and join us for reasons stated at the AGM. (We're trying to think of ways to get the 70 or so club members who don't participate in social events to start coming along and breaking the percieved social cliques in the club) I started this thread asking for suggestions for venues, and more veunes suggested were on the North Shore, as that's where most attendees live, and know good restaurants to suggest. Please feel free to organise next month's dinner with a venue out West (seriously)!!! You of all people know that I'm not adverse to a cruise out west for dinner or whatnot As for Yak & Yeti, I've eaten there and I loved the food... Very different from the norm, with their Goat curries and similar dishes. It's very adventurous though, and not for everyone.... Not sure if it's the best place for an SAU Dinner, but worth putting it out to the crowd I guess.

and your right calf

Midnight Purple GTR owners stick together :uh-huh:

:werd: We'll try and organise one further away from our comfort zone next time I wonder if that will persuade any other SAU'ers from out West to come though... I somehow doubt it

I agree with this. People who are willing to buy from a REPUTABLE dealer are a very different breed to that who wants to pay $5000 for that once-in-a-lifetime bargain import from Japan. They are very discerning buyers and know what they want, and are usually willing to pay for it. Dealers also usually present the cars in immaculate condition, fix little tidbits here and there that all add up to a much nicer package for the buyer to look at. Dealers also offer a warranty on the cars they sell, which is why they take a chunk for commission. More often that not they will need to fix up a few extra things on the car after the sale. -

Yes, and they also charge you a few hundred dollars for the COMPULSORY detailing (even if your car is in concours condition, you still have to get this done ) and if they can't sell your car and take it back you still have to pay them for the advertising and the detailing. I think they make more money of ringing up suckers and charging them detailing and advertising fees and having the owners asking for the cars back in 3 weeks time when they find a buyer themselves. I had that National Car Connection place call me up about my white Skyline, which I had advertised for $37,000 and they claimed they had a buyer who was looking for that exact car. They wanted me to bring it there and leave it there on consignment... They tried to sell me the detailing speil but I saw right through and asked "What if I want my car back? I have to pay you $300 for the detailing that the car didn't need right? ...... and the $500 storage fees to display on your lot? and advertising fees? So if you don't sell my car I'll be out of pocket about $1000." "Oh... but it's a great deal, and I'm sure we'll sell your car we have a buyer ready to go!!!" "Is that right? What can you tell me about my car? It's a $37,000 GTS-t, are you sure you have a buyer for such an expensive GTS-t? Do you know why my car is so expensive?" "Errrr.... Well yeah... of course... I called you right? We have a buyer for your car!" "No you don't. You don't even know what modifications my car has had done to it. Do you know what an HKS GT3040 turbo is? What about a Tial wastegate?" "Ummmmm... I'm going to have to get back to you... We go through a lot of cars everyday I can't remember each one" "If you knew anything you're talking about, you'd remember this one, trust me.... And you hit the nail right on the head there... You spend all day calling people up with ads in the trading post/car sales websites and tell them you have interested buyers so they bring you their car to sell on consignment, meanwhile you rack up a bill as long as my arm for "detailing", "advertisement" and "storage" fees don't you? Fcuk off." -
I don't think my car's fuel tank is large enough to make it that far

This was on Sunday in Hungary. Amatuer race day, one guy went testing the car one way, so was another guy but one of them went the wrong way for some reason. It was on a closed part of the track . Both were estimated going at about 130 km/h when they connected. 2 people in each car, both drivers died and the passengers are in Hospital. BOTH CARS WERE LADAS.... I wonder if Jamezilla was there as well

Ooooh... That's a nice one
