  1. i have been in a sprinter with a 4age in it. they go pretty well. although they still handle like an old car unless you are prepaired to throw some coin at it for new suspension. i haven't been in a NA skyline so i couldn't say if it would 'mop the floor with it', but they would be capable of very high 14's or low 15's (depending on tyres). only downside is that while they put out decent power (141kw or whatever it is), it is all very high in the rev range. low in the rev range that aren't very quick (kind of like hondas with v-tec). as a comparison, over the 1/4 mile they are only about as quick as a SSS pulsar which only puts out 105kw.
  2. if it is only for street use and you don't drive that hard the r34 cooler will do the job. if you plan on going to track days at all then don't bother with the r34 cooler. it will suffer from heat soak extemely quickly which results in more chance of pinging and less power.
  3. what condition was the coil and ignitor that you were using? also what condition were your plugs and leads? could be that there is a fault there, especially if something is second hand from the wreckers
  4. pfft, is that all? i had 127kw in my magna and it just had a full exhaust, LOL but back on topic, what is the budget for buying a car? because that alone may be the deciding factor. r33's are generally much cheaper so getting a tidy 33 is going to be better than getting a dodgy 34
  5. just out of curiousity, what mods do you currently have?
  6. at least with when porsche put the nissan round the ring you know it was going to be 100% stock. and as i said, we have no way of know if some little smart arse engineer plugged his little laptop into the gtr just before it went round and bumped up the boost a little bit or added in a touch more timing or anything like that. not saying it happened, but can anyone prove 100% that it didn't? and what do you mean about gases escaping when the wastegate is opened? the wastegate shuts when you lift off the throttle. as for response/lag on gearchanges, it wouldn't be any different to on a normal turbo setup. the throttle is only shut for a very short amount of time, so the turbo doesn't slow down very much. the only time there would be any difference in repsonse would be after braking or cruising along at light throttle (off boost).
  7. sometimes the switches also get covered in sludge and stop working as well.
  8. IAC and AAC are located very close to each other. if i remember correctly, the IAC is located above the AAC. IAC = easy to get to. AAC = not so easy to get to. i will have a flick through my workshop manual and see if it has any pics
  9. simply swapping over the turbo etc and not the motors will result in the following: NA motor with turbo attached will not run much boost before it starts to ping turbo motor with turbo removed will in fact be slower then the NA was before it had the turbo attached the originally turbo car will still be registered as a turbo you will have wasted money for pretty much no reason while the engines are both rb25's they aren't exactly the same. the turbo engine runs lower compression than the NA, which means 2 things. 1: the NA can't run as much boost as the turbo could, and 2: the turbo motor without a turbo attached will be noticably slower than a stock NA skyline. in fact you would probably get left at the lights by a grandma in her barina.
  10. the NA skylines aren't exactly gutless (except for maybe the the rb20, LOL). 300zx are heavier, but they do put out more power. don't know if they would be quite as fast, but they would still go alright. i prefer the looks of the s13 over the s14. i had a 180sx and it isn't that bad looks wise. some look crap though. the early 'pig nose' fronts are bad, and 90% of bodykits for them look like crap. i prefer the stock look of them. i prefer them to the r32 i think that the skyline is probably going to be what ticks the boxes for you the best.
  11. and i would guess that they use the stock NA compression as well, so off boost they still have plenty of poke. also, as far as the intake length goes, if you look at how long the intake length on a rb25 with FMIC is, it isn't exactly short either. so if they don't use an intercooler, or just a water to air one, they aren't going to be that much longer. yes it will be longer, but i don't think it would be much longer than double (if it was even that much). yes the time it takes for the exhaust gas to spool the turbo up is much longer, but i think that is where the housing size of the turbo plays it's part. also on a race track i don't think the repsonse is so much of an issue because if you are putting out decent power you are going to feed the power on out of a corner, not just stomp on the gas straight after hard braking. and people don't seem to be too concerned about having lower repsonse when they fit big turbos with big exhaust housings to their cars.
  12. i was simply using the commodore falcon as an example, not saying to get one. their power deliver is totally different to smaller engines. as for gear ratios, they are well suited for the engines. i have owned both a commodore and falcon and for everyday use they are fine. as for a car that is quicker than NA skylines, manual 3.5L v6 magna. but again, family car. something that would be similar in speed to a NA skyline would be a n15 SSS pulsar. put a set of extractors on it and they go very well (i have one). down a little bit on torque compared to the skyline though, but handle very well. i have driven a lancer and the pulsar is a much better car to drive (i actually hated the feel of the lancer and would rate a falcon and commodore as much better to drive). much more sporty feel, nice direct steering. feel a lot like a skyline as far as basic handling goes (steering weight, speed and feedback). they are very much an underated car as far as 4 cylinders go. subaru impreza's aren't a bad car either. i have driven an awd 2.0L one and it goes pretty well, handles ok (prefered it to the lancer). also driven a liberty and they go ok as well. then there is the hondas. plenty of quick hondas out there that will put NA skylines to shame. they do have the stigma of being boy racer cars though, and i personally don't like them, although they aren't too bad to drive. however they suffer from a similar problem to subarus. they are good as long as you don't have to buy any genuine parts for them, asn that requires you to have to mortgage your house you buy the simplest part. another option would be a NA silvia or 180sx (preferably with the sr20). they handle well, go well, look good. only let down is a slightly dated interior. as for supra, i think if got one i would be driving with my eyes shut. the interior is hideous. it's a trend with a lot of their cars (such as soarer). they seemed to put all their effort into making great engines and then got a grade 6 class from a nearby school to draw up plans for the dash.
  13. good stuff. a lot of people just throw them on thinking it will run fine because it is from another nissan, LOL
  14. as nismoid said, it can only be the ecu's fault if the person who tuned it didn't do it right (so not really the ecu's fault at all). i know plenty of people running 250kw on ecu's using afms (some even pfc's) if ecu's using afms were so bad then they wouldn't be on nearly every car.
  15. yeah as was said, unless you are chasing every last possible pony from your motor and have done everything else, don't bother. spend the money on something more worth while that will give you better gains.
  16. yeah the r34 has more torque than the r33, but it is a bit heavier, but still will be a bit quicker (only by a little bit though). while they both will be quicker than your lancer and feel more powerful, don't expect it to be ubber different. they are still a small engine and still require revs to make the power. on the other hand a commodore or falcon will feel totally different (feel much more powerful) due to the torque, despite being not much quicker than your lancer.
  17. a mate of mine just got yellow jacket coils for his 33 gts-t and has found them good. they only cost him a bit over $300
  18. ok, the turbo won't blow the moment you hit 14psi. i was running my stock turbo on my 33 at 14/15psi for a year and never had an issue. i know people who have run up to 16psi and not had an issue. as for the ecu stopping it from going any higher, that isn't right either. the ecu has protections in it, but it won't magically stop it going any higher. you can go higher but it will start throwing tantrums. without knowing your setup i couldn't say why it isn't boosting any higher than 13psi. if you still have a stock exhaust then that would explain it, or if you still have a stock cooler, that could also be a contributing factor. or it could be a problem with the controller.
  19. most things (not all things though, but i would assume something as generic as a column surround would) out of a r32 should fit any other r32 (so r32 gtr fitting in r32 gts-t) i could be wrong about the 33 one fitting though. only way to know for sure is to try it.
  20. the AAC (auxilary air control) can also cause hunting when the aircon is turned on (or the steering is turned). while the IAC controls the idle speed, the AAC alters the idle when an accessory is turned on.
  21. yeah if you just hook it up straight to 12v and hook up a new earth (just to be on the safe side) it should run.
