others will know more about this than me, but i would guess, no. may be indicating a problem such as low gearbox/diff oil or an electrical fault/error.
-
fair enough. yeah as doofy said, all you can really do is hack up the snorkel, or get a custom cooler pipe made up

are both controllers you are using electronic? or is 1 manual?
-
been done many many times.

just out of curiosity, how did you work out the power at peak torque? i'm guessing that you did some dodgy maths to 'guestimate' what it would be. also weight wise, the vn isn't that much different to a skyline. depending on which variant of the range it is, some are actually lighter than r33's and only a few kg's heavier than a 32. basically if you have a full tank of fuel and they have half a tank it would be lighter. vs only weighs about 30kg more than a 33, but again, depends on model variant. as i said in an ealier post, what makes the aussie built cars slower than what they could be is the taller gear ratios. i had an auto vx commodore and it would do about 125kmh at 5500rpm (redline) in second. had the gear ratios been shorter then it would've accelerated harder.

he has had plenty of people after it. won't sell. and he has been offered some decent amounts. but i haven't spoken to him about it in a little while.

and most of the people that say this A: haven't ever driven a fwd, or B: determine that they aren't as good because you can't do fully sick burnouts in them and get the back end out. i have owned 5 fwd cars and driven plenty of others, and for general driving they handle just like a rwd. if you give it a bit of stick, they still usually handle like a rwd. if you drive like a bat out of hell, then they are a little bit DIFFERENT to drive. i say different rather than better or worse. they both have negatives and positives. and even then it comes down to so many variables. different fwd cars handle differently, just like different rwd cars handle differently.

my mate has one sitting in his garage. don't think it's been started in years. but also don't think he'll part with it. real pity it's going to waste. it's the RSR or RSX or whatever the rarer model is called

yeah as people said, purple to the outside if it is a flip up one. this is so when you aren't welding you can flip the front lense up and see what you are doing. if it isn't a flip up one and is just one that you hold in front of your face then the clear would go on the outside to stop the purple lense getting damaged

i know what you mean. the snorkel doesn't really fit back on with the crossover type fmic. putting a hole in the bottom of the airbox isn't a good idea as i'm pretty sure the snorkel goes into the top of the airbox so a hole in the bottom is going allow unfiltered air into the engine. not the best idea. may i ask why you want to swap back? if it is just to stop hot air then i would just make a partition around the pod.

pretty much any turbo car made after about 1990 has a factory fitted bov. they were put on to meet the new emissions laws that came in. i had the stock bov on my 33 and with a pod it was as noisey as anything. on a side note, when i bought my 180sx i took it for a test drive and it had the stock bov and i said to the guy "you can hear the stock bov pretty well" and his reply was "it doesn't have a bov, that noise is the wastegate".......... i didn't bother correcting him. wasn't worth the effort.

more than likely....no. anything over about 12 or 13 on the stock turbo and the stock ecu packs up its bat and ball and goes crying home to mummy. that said, with the vg30 turbo on there you should be able to make the same power as you would on the stock turbo, you will just do it at lower boost pressure (vg 30 turbo is a touch bigger than the stock one). if you are getting boost spiking then it has something to do with the boost controller. maybe it is how it is hooked up rather than a faulty unit.

congrats on getting the car, but i have to side with a lot of people in this thread. it is people like you who are the reason why hooning laws are getting worse. you have lost points before, and i can garantee that once you get the gts-t you will lose more. it's very easy to say you are over driving silly, but i can garantee that once you have the car for a few days you will be hooning again. and even if you don't if you get pulled over for a rbt while driving it and get booked for driving a restricted vehicle then there goes your 1 point. all it takes is the slightest little thing and you will be walking. i understand that you have accepted that it is your problem and you are the one dealing with the consequences, but i don't think you really have. have you really considered what will happen if you hit a 50 or $60k car and it is a write off and your insurance doesn't pay up? just expect a lot of "i told you so" if you get booked or crash.

the guy making the bonnet is in new zealand, so for him it doesn't matter and nice job on the hand mate. hope it heals soon

there are a few things to remember about cars from japan. 1: japan is a small place so that means that not much long driving is done. 2: japan has a very good public transport system so some people with cars won't drive them all the time. 3: while the car may only low kms on it, even if they are genuine kms, the engine may have much more wear than that due to sitting in traffic for long periods of time. the engine is still wearing while it is idling. but yes, most imports that come into australia have had some 'tweaking' done. the biggest issue that this creates is that it can then mean that the timing belt gets left until well overdue before it is changed. however there would be some genuine km cars that come in. i have a 9 year old pulsar with 50,000kms on it. i have owned it for 6 years and only put 27,000kms on it in that time. when looking at a car it is best to compare the kms on the clock to the condition of the car. if the car is extremely neat and has low kms then there is more chance of it being genuine, but it is going to be a good buy even if the kms are a bit higher than what the odometer says. if the kms are low and the car looks a bit tired then it is a bit obvious that things are a bit suss. but it is a case at looking at the right things. just because it has dodgy panels doesn't automatically mean the engine has done lots of kms.

Exhaust Manifold Gasket Replacement
mad082 replied to mystery_kid's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
yeah sometimes they break, other times they don't. when i put extractors on my pulsar none broke, and when i pulled them off again to fix something a few months back (had been on there for about 4 years) none broke either. however on my 33 i had 2 break just while driving, and another 2 broke getting the manifold off. similar thing happened with a mates 33 when upgrading the turbo. 1 stud broke just putting the wrench on. -
Gt-r Vs Evo Vs Clubsport
mad082 replied to boostin_r33's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
clubby will be nice and comfy, and have a bit of poke, however will be the heaviest on fuel when driven hard. if something breaks parts are easy to get. 33gtr has it all. plenty of go, reasonably comfy (not as comfy as the clubby though). only downside is that if something breaks it costs a lot to fix. evo, go well, nice and nimble. i'm not a fan of the earlier ones though. -
i thought school holidays were finished.....

2jzgte Conversion Into R32
mad082 replied to R32_2jzgte's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
it isn't the most common of conversions due to the fact that the toyota motors have the turbos on the drivers side so it takes a little bit more effort to make sure the exhaust clears the steering. if the turbo was on the other side like on the rb series motors i think you would see this done much more often -
Do People Really Pay Big Bux For Number Plates?
mad082 replied to Bakes's topic in General Automotive Discussion
i used to have a falcon that had the plates 060-BAD, that were fitted to the car when new (parents bought the car new, i bought it off them). thought that was pretty cool. -
just sell it registered (meaning with a RWC for your state) and let the buyer deal with all the crap.

What Have You Found In Your Car's Sun Visor Pocket?
mad082 replied to KR4-GTR's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
i had a rattle in the boot of my 33 and in the gap on the passengers side i found some make up and a few matchbox cars and a mcdonalds toy. noise went away after i got those out, LOL. i think i also found a receipt in japanese too. -
