Anyone Know Of Decent Alarm Installers In Ballarat Vic?
cooks44 replied to undertoe's topic in Car Audio & Electrical
BASS - Ballarat Auto Sound Specialists. Good independant auto install guy, used to be our repair agent in that area as well... Worth giving him a call if you want to move away from the big stores. 8 Eastwood St, Ballarat - 5333-4465 -
Aerpro AP254 (make that AP252... just did the catalogue, going nuts with "AP" models)... (and it's "Aerpro", not "Aeropro"...)

All factory wiring I've seen in Skylines only support a fully automatic antenna. (ie. fully up or fully down (not fully sic... sorry, couldn't help myself...)) You could: a) put a relay system in there that allows the antenna to stay at half mast b) alter the mast itself so it doesn't go up as far c) install a secondary window strip antenna (or similar hidden antenna) so the other one can stay down d) replace it for an aftermarket semi-automatic antenna that does have the switch However: masts should be a certain length to pick up the wavelength required here (ie. 88-108MHz). Can't remember whether a compromise was made for the antennas to suit AM & FM - theoretically a shorter antenna would pick up FM ok, but not AM (can check with our resident techs if you need...)

Wat Can I Use To Dye The Rubber Around My Windows
cooks44 replied to bLaQ.bOi's topic in General Maintenance
You sure it's not just dried on wax (which is what mine is??) -
No troubles with one in mine... (93 R33 GTS-T) But then again, it's quite stock and hasn't been on a dyno. Biggest plus, 280kms/tank went back to 440-460kms/tank.......

Sorcing Down A O2 Sensor For My R33
cooks44 replied to Robz's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Ended up using the Ford sensor in mine... Wrong plug, same sensor. Tried getting the plug changed at numerous auto elecs, Petroject, etc... ended up crimping it (stainless wire - no soldering...) The were a few threads somewhere on here about which Ford sensor you can use. -
I'd agree with Monash Clayton... I was installing a stereo/alarm/central locking for a friend one day, they had classes, meh - I'll do it in the car park... For six hours I'm hanging out of a car, stereo & speakers in hand, wiring coming everywhere from under the dash... Did anyone even ask what I was doing? No... I'd list Fountain Gate as worse than Dandy (although anyone who parks in Dandy Plaza (Central, whatever it's called these days) really needs to have a look at themselves. Oh, Dandy Sth. is pretty bad... My neighbour across the road from me went to a house about three doors down to borrow a screwdriver... Then proceeded to break into his own brother's friend's car to steal the stereo, out the front of his own house?!? (Same dude was laughing as he was being chased down the street by another dude with an axe, but that's another story...)

Black R33 GTS-T, and I love it! I think the black Nissan have chosen for the Skylines makes the difference though... (I'm looking at mine out the window parked next to my boss' black A6 - his car just looks dirty (even though it's cleaner than mine...)) Yeah, they are a bugger to keep clean... yeah, they cook birdcrap on in 5 minutes flat (gotta wash it off every day...) but it's nearly three years on since buying mine and I still grin after I wash it... I still sit in my backyard having a ciggie whilst picking out the lines, curves & reflections in the mirror paint finish... A quick dusting with a microfibre cloth in the morning goes a long way (don't you dare think about parking it outside though - I almost moved out when my housemate & I had a fight about my spot in the carport...) My recommendation is to get one, and look after it. You wont regret it... Just try and find one in good nick - scratches and chips on a black Skyline do make you cry...

R33 Gt25t Series 1 headlight maintenance
cooks44 replied to SHUTO-BOY's topic in General Maintenance
That'd be them - no, they don't have a website but I've heard of a few people from here who have changed their headlights over with them. -
R33 Gt25t Series 1 headlight maintenance
cooks44 replied to SHUTO-BOY's topic in General Maintenance
There's also a place in Keysborough, Victoria that does change overs (is it Mr. Headlight??) Do a search on headlight +replacement, I read the thread 18-24 months ago... -
AFAIK, there's two air doors (I've got this problem too and I've read the original post where someone fixed it...) First is the face/feet/screen door, second is the air con/external air adjust. My understanding is there's either a cog that allows it to recognise when it's reached the end of travel, or there's a little microswitch in there to do it. (There is definately a cog - this is what makes the "click, click".) The air door(s) get to the end of their travel and the motor keeps trying to turn it, hence the click. Mine does it on startup, changing certain vents (face to feet, I think), and at certain temperature changes (which I why I think the air con/external air door, at least on mine, is causing the problem too...) Not a major problem, just a nylon gear going "click", but it is an annoyance.. Apparantly the part to fix it is around $5 from Nissan, it's just a bugger disassembling your whole dash to get to this one little part!

I'd be very wary... I've got a (freshly painted) black R33, and I feel your pain. But I still haven't seen a car cover that doesn't scratch... Wind gets to it and rubs it against your duco. The slightest bit of dirt under there will scratch it to buggery. I'd go and get some good quality microfibre cloths, some Quick Detailer (if necessary), and just give it a quick rub down in the morning to get the dust/water marks off. I do this whilst having a ciggie/coffee in the morning - makes me much happier driving to work! Just make sure they're microfibre or all the dust you pick up will still scratch the car...

lol! And I literally just picked up my car from NVS up the court a bit...

I got a SMS from BP on Friday that Ultimate is returning to Victoria this (now past) weekend (Perfect timing, since I just got my baby out of the spray booth).... You might see it reappearing soon.

Shannons Insurance Just Keeps On Getting Better!
cooks44 replied to Merli's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Hey, I'm 26, rating one, 60% NCB and I got knocked back by Shannons... -
Trying to do this (http://media.putfile.com/NOS-scooter-vs-camaro), are you?!?

Hampton Park here... As soon as my car's out of the spray booth, you'll probably see me down there a fair bit! Black R33, (closely) followed by a Red Z31 (they're usually pretty hard to miss - love my Glasurit!)

Hey, I'd start by getting rid of the blue/white globes - the tinting of the globe reduces the amount of light they can put out. Bought some for my R33, my original globes went straight back in. I prefer some of the "Plus 50" globes - they do give a brighter light than usual.

Button Lights On Climate Control
cooks44 replied to GTR_STEALTH's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
They can be changed - quite easily! If you remove the whole control unit, you'll find little circular plates in the back with a flat head indentation on them. Twist these 1/4 turn anti-clockwise, and they should pop out. Each one holds a tiny globe (grain of wheat globe, is what Jaycar/DSE will know them as) and you just need to replace these. Only prob is each globe has a blue rubber cap over them to give that blue/green tinge instead of yellow incandescent light. These get brittle with the heat of the globe over the years and will be impossible to remove intact. You might be able to get a replacement cap (hopefully silicone so they will come off next time) at the same place you get the globe. -
I use Plexus - Plexiglass polish and cleaner. Works wonders!

Those rotties are tame as! I pat 'em when I go down to look at their stock after hours... don't want to let too many people see though, guard dog owners generally get them put down if they see them being friendly. Back on-topic though, SEI are ok... I got my car through them, dead stock when I got it so I knew even if it was thrashed it couldn't be too bad. Turned out to be quite a good car! Do be a little wary of their detailing though - I need to get a respray thanks to the crappy job that was left on it (thank god for all my mate's in the trade!)

Swinburne Design, actually. But yeah, that's the basis of it. -
Ever Heard Of Rampage Audio Cable/equipment?
cooks44 replied to Topaz's topic in Car Audio & Electrical
Aerpro, Rampage, USAudio, Audioline (& Jaycar's range)... Take them out of the packaging and they're identical. They're all manufactured on the same production line, most of them are distributed by the same importer. In the Rampage brand, you'll find 4GA rings (RMP45) - most stores wont stock them as they're not pushed by head office. And they didn't want to get 2GA - too expensive for such a cheap range. 2GA Ring Terminals are cast brass - makes for a few more $$$. You'll only find those under Aerpro (or Jaycar, or Stinger, or Stinger's new brand, but I don't think we're getting that here...) And yeah, the subs look ghey... Strangely, they were independantly designed by mechanical engineers but fall into the same category as the rest. -
I put a relay inline.

Another attempt: Under the parcel tray
cooks44 replied to WhiteR33's topic in Car Audio & Electrical
It can... Have seen it happen. You need to be able to move a fair bit of air though! (ie. a single sub wouldn't do it). R33 boots are pretty much fully-sealed, save for the vent strip along the edge of the rear window and a few holes behind the seats. If you're moving enough air that the vent can't keep up, the next weakest point would be the speakers themselves, the pressure pushing straight through the cone. Either way, having any subwoofer pushing on your rear speaker cones will prevent them from producing a nice, clean sound. As per PM, I'll send you my new drawings (sorry, I'm a slack ass.... No, I'm just a Uni student) and show you how I've moved my speakers outwards, so they're no longer protruding into the boot.
