Mx Lancer Cutting Out Please Help
Stinky Rooster replied to r33madd's topic in General Automotive Discussion
If that is the problem, blast a heap of carby cleaner down the intake pipe while turning it over with the key with WOT. It should at least get you going. ....then push it off a cliff -
The boxes are out there and pretty cheap really, you just have to know where to look. The last one I sourced for a mate set him back a grand total of $120 leaving him with the old one to recon at his lesuire. One thing I would really like to find out is, how much difference between the skyline auto and the stagea box is there? I have looked at both and I think it would be reasonable to assume that the transfer case will bolt onto the skyline box, but not having actually tried it, I am not sure. Any takers to give it a go? Autos from skylines are really cheap due to everyone wanting a manual so it may be a good source of cheap parts that are allready here in Oz.

Rwd Or Awd. Which Stagea Is Better?

Well, I can't see it hurting There must be a reason they put the attessa system in the GTR... -

Iwould book in for a trans service AND fluid flush ASAP. 1st and second in these boxes are standard bands, but 3rd is a wet clutch and it sounds like the clutch pack isn't engaging properly (just like a clutch in a manual doesn't engage or slips just before packing it in) This may not be due to the clutch being stuffed though, it may be due to a fluid pressure problem due to blockage or a sticky solenoid. Either way, a trans fluid flush and service will either fix it or give you a lot better idea what is wrong if it doesn't .

How Not To Break A Clutch.
Stinky Rooster replied to Mitchee's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I hadn't seen it before but I would have said flywheel as well. I can see the flycut on it, but I dunno if it has been lightened. If it has - that bloke needs to get himself a big fistful of lotto tix to celebrate the fact that his feet are still attached. -
Kind of... The profile number is actually a percentage of the tread width so theoreticaly it will, but like I said, the attessa system can handle a small amount of variation. I think it was Sydneykid that stated 5-10% so maybe PM him and ask where he got that info, and you should be able to calculate the difference from there. But no, the width itself won't make a difference.

The Wacky Wagons Thread
Stinky Rooster replied to Stinky Rooster's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
I can't believe I haven't mentioned this one before! The wackiest of all wacky wagons! the..(drumroll please) Lightburn Zeta Utility! Probably one of the worst concieved ideas to ever come out of Australia (Adelaide actually) they were the brainchild of a bloke by the name of Harold Lightburn who owned a company that made whitegoods and decided to take on the big boys with his "second car" for aussies. Despite the fact that the idea looked good on paper, the fibreglass bodies were dismal in build quality, the 2 stroke 2 cyl air cooled engine was woefully underpowered and don't get me started on the chaindrive setup to the rear wheels (I'm serious!!!) To top it all off, even though it is shaped like a wagon, there was no rear access to the vehicle and to get anything in or out of the back, the front seats had to be removed because they couldn't be folded down! No wonder there were only about 360 of them made. If you want a real giggle - google the Lightburn Zeta Sports! They only made 28 of those and the world is still glad they stopped when they did -
I know petrol has a stupidly low freezing point so that won't be an issue, but, won't that seriously mess with the fuel atomization? As we all know, cool air has more oxygen per given volume allowing you to put more fuel in and make more power. The same can't be said for petrol, cooling it does nothing to the overall volume so why would you bother?. Contrary to popular belief, water injection has NOTHING to do with "cooling" the fuel, it is there simply to reduce the chances of preignition (pinging) in high compression or blown engines.

Well, its my understanding that you would have put some extra wear on the clutch packs of the transfer case but that would be about it (anyone - feel free to shoot me down in flames here) as the attessa system would have attempted to correct the fact that the rears were doing higher revs than the fronts due to smaller circumference. Swapping them over will cause exactly the same problem so that won't help you out any. The clutch packs are likely to have a bit of chatter on them now, but a complete fluid change and the correct size tyres should see things right hopefully. You will only need to change 2 tyres if oney is a bit tight, as it usually is when getting a new toy You may even get a trade in on the old ones if they are still OK.

importing half cuts
Stinky Rooster replied to wagonshaw's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
My point is though, that once you cut a car in half it is no longer worth the same a a whole car. Also, I am looking at places here in australia and I know that they don't pay for a whole car when they import a half cut, so why the hell should I? You just need to look at the auction results to see the proof. Anywhoo, I am trying to find people that are able to help me import either my own half cut, or an entire car even, with no intention at all to ever try and get it complied or licenced. I understand that there is a fair bit of difference in customs and duty though. Can anyone confirm this? -
The first thing you need to do is make 100% sure all the tyres are the same profile. Different rolling diameters will cause an upset with the 4WD system but it has a built in allowance for about 5-10% difference I think. Next - how low was the fluid? There is a requirement to bleed any air out of the system if there is the slightest chance of any getting in there. There are 2 bleed points too - one at the pump above the diff and one at the transfer case at the back near the top. Whilst you are under there it would be a good thing to check out the condition of the driveshafts to the diffs and wheels. The wheel shafts are just like any other CV, but the front driveshaft should have almost NO play in it, unlike the rear that will (unless you have an LSD) I hope some of this helps The Stink

Help Me... My Stagea Isn't Starting!
Stinky Rooster replied to introubleagain's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
If they were carboned up that bad, you may want to get a decent tune asap, and also look into replacing your exhaust O2 sensor. That is not a common fault AFAIK with the RB and it may need a little further investigation to make sure it doesn't happen again. Good luck with it anyway, and welcome to the family! -
You rock! I don't suppose you got the same info for the CV themselves?
-
If the boot has split, and the grease is all over the inside of the wheel, what sort of life expectancy do you give the CV? I would replace it, myself, just to be on the safe side. Have you ever seen the damage a CV does when it lets go?

Stone/splash Tray... Do I Need It?
Stinky Rooster replied to SS8_Gohan's topic in General Automotive Discussion
if it wasn't needed, do you really think Nissan would have gone to the time and expense of engineering and manufacturing it? The best part about having it there (IMO) is the fact that it stops crap flinging up off the road and shortening the life expectancy of the belts. -
If its the same as anything (S1 I am assuming?) then it will be the same as R33 GTS-4. In my experience the GTR's have everything just a little chunkier. (front driveshafts for example) Do us all a favour, and if you do get the Nissan one, can you ask the counter monkey to compare the part number to the GTR and GTS-4 and let us know the results? Cheers

importing half cuts
Stinky Rooster replied to wagonshaw's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
SUPERBUMP!!!! I am looking into a half cut myself (Stagea RS4) but, as mentioned above, the prices they are quoting are simply ridiculous. They are quoting the FOB price of a complete car just for a half cut FFS! Also, due to the fact that it is 4WD, is there any way at all of bringing in a complete car just for parts? Its not essential, but the attessa ontroller / pump etc is all located in the rear cargo area so a half cut is kinda limited use only, and I NEED the panel work, but I would LIKE all the other gear as well, as I own a series 1 but I would like to bring in a Series 2 (Neo eng etc etc) Any advice would be most appreciated.
