  1. I've found from riding in peoples cars with roll cages it adds much more of a firm feel. But as Roy said what feels doesn't always mean faster (lap times). Are all your other stiffening bits the same? (struts/sway bars/bushes etc?) Could it be your wheel/tyre setup too? (i.e. lower profile tyres on your mates car?) There have been a few people around that complain about having the tyre compress before their suspension does (when they have hard suspension but high profile tyres).
  2. Thread was closed till the results came back. I think that's a wise idea
  3. Nice chop. Dislike the front bar but the chop itself is good... cept maybe a bit too dark and the front wheel is a bit too large.
  4. haha sucked in I hope he broke his nose. Good on ya for getting your car back - hope it ain't too much worse than superficial.
  5. I got 4 slicks on s14/r33 rims. 2 are shot 2 can do a lap. If you get em off the wheel you can have em for free. Although they are circuit slicks.. judging by your sig you probably want drag slicks. PM me if interested.
  6. Hey $150 sounds like alot for hoses. If you don't like the service walk away with your money - I always do. Try this guy - he always responds quick to me and I will be placing an order with him shortly. http://www.nissansilvia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=96464 Good luck
  7. Spotted at city r34 black with gold(?) wheels. Parked. Looked great. Spotted in traffic near the speed camera on Eastern Valley Way white r33 with white wheels and some kit or front bar. Lookin tough. Spotted in traffic white r34 - looked great!! So good infact I missed my turn off 'cos I was gawking at the car.. Looked SOOooOOo tough. If you're on here I'm sorry if it looked like I cut you off - noone would let me in after I missed my turn off and I had to get in - I wasn't trying to be a smartass. Great looking car. This would have been on Warringah Road. Apologies again!
  8. Interested in swap for my ceffy plus cash? I'm looking to downgrade.. please PM me if interested.
  9. One of these topics seems to come up every week damnit.. At the end of the day it's a VL who gives a shit.
  10. I'd be lookin around that price without xenons, audio, ebc, bride seat, alarm I know I haven't drifted it yet. I need a helmet, once it's on the track it means I'll have to install the gauges too plus morally I don't want to thrash it if I know I'm getting rid of it. Happy to look at 16k without any of the stuff to 19k-20k with all rebuilt head with cams and all parts I don't have installed on it yet (oil coolers, greddy gauges etc etc). It's all optionable baby
  11. If you take it on the track 17's, if you don't then 18's. But I think the chromies are too loud with the paint scheme.. Imo 18 black or bronze on the street *droolies*
  12. Hey guys, My car has cost me about $10k more than I expected. I've decided I'd like to move and go on holidays and do all the other things people do when they make good money but don't have a hi-po car. Basically I've re-wired it and replaced *SO* much stuff that the car is now freaking perfect (apart from the head gasket). I will be rebuilding the head before selling the car. It is basically in great condition from all the stuff that HAS gone wrong with it. Infact it's the best shape it's probably ever been in Australia. So the question is.. I realise I can't make my money back on it but what do you think my car would be worth? I paid $15.5k Done about $10k stuff to it to fix up the dodginess and upgrades. Will be reco'ing the head. What's a fair price considering almost everyone on here can vouch for this car being my baby and having everything fixed with TLC and in good nick?
  13. Go for a drive first so the gearbox warms up. Wait for the exhaust to cool down (and hopefully your gearbox will still be warm). Then get under the car and WHACK it. Whack it reaeaaaal guddd son Good luck O_o
  14. I seemed to have lost access too! It was there before but now I'm "Members" group and can't see it. What should I do?
  15. Spotted JUZ11N driving around to work on Friday morning - daaaaamn those tyres are stretched.. wheels look phat! Nice guy had a wave and a chat at the lights
  16. If you can see them you should be able to see a screw or a allen key bit that you can turn. Usually on top of it.
  17. Thanks for the tip Roy. I wouldn't trust the answer I got anyway so is there anyway to find that out for myself? Like - if I ask the mechanic to lookout for that?
  18. I've confirmed that the $1400 includes machining the head and making sure it's all straight and checking it out, putting in the VRS kit which as siksII said includes the head gasket. It also includes oil and radiator flush etc... So... that looks like the foremost option at the moment.
  19. Thanks siksII. I'll see if it's possible to get a VRS kit without the head gasket. Tony - I was under the impression it's best to change the other stuff while you're there. Also putting it back together I'd rather have fresh seals etc. Atleast that's what most people have said.
  20. Thanks Roy, GTST and wrxhoon. Roy - I'll keep it in mind that's what I was thinking. GTST - I might PM you, I'm still gauging what needs to be done wrxhoon - He mentioned a vrs kit. That's exactly it. $1400 VRS kit. What's r+r? Remove and refit? Ahh that's smart! I get it. Ask my mechanic to remove the head, take it to the head reco and then bring it back to him. So basically, r+r head + VRS kit + reco labour = total. Do you think $1400 is reasonable considering it is VRS kit and r+r head?
  21. Sounds logical. So service the head... I just don't want to get ripped so it helps if I can specify exactly what I need done and get each part quoted. Once it comes off it gets valve grind crack tested, check the lifters, valve seats. So.. when you say "reco" . .. doesn't that involve new parts? reco is the same as rebuilding the head right? If so parts and labour it's probably about $2.5k right? The guy quoted me for about $1400 just to have the gasket changed and he mentioned checking the head. I'd have to clarify if he meant what you said. He did say if it was buggered or something caused the head gasket to blow out in the first place it'd cost more. What I DON'T want to end up doing is taking my car in for a head gasket, then have something discovered to be wrong, then have the option of paying $5k for a full engine rebuild, or $4k to fix what's wrong with it, leaving my engine half rebuilt. So I'm still a bit lost. If I walk into a garage and say "reco my head" .. their version of what that means might be a bit different. Would you mind spelling out exactly what needs to be done (and things that are a good opportunity to change at the time) so I can run it through with them? Thanks!
  22. Thanks for the reply. By service the cil head what do you mean? Change gaskets? Also - if the bore and pistons etc are all bad do you do then? Machine and new pistons? I suppose what I'm trying to avoid is the usual story of taking it to the mechanic and they find things wrong with it.. and it just gets bigger and bigger. The amount of times I've been told $300 then charged $1000 is ridiculous. Also, $5k I was thinking of forged pistons, cams, all new gaskets, machined, put together by a shop engine in engine out. I thought $5k was conservative?
  23. Previous owner already chemi-welded it. I'm suprised the radiator even works it's got so much shit in it. Engine comes with 3 month warranty+reputable seller. Sounds ok no? - http://www.nissansilvia.com/forums/index.p...howtopic=106480
  24. Thanks for replying and the kind words Roy - tell ya what the beers will be on me I curse the day I bought this car from the person I did. The engine wrecked I'm looking at is $2.5 with gearbox, turbo, loom and ECU from a reputable trader on ns.com (spandex). I had to replace my gearbox already Roy so that's sorted. I've also re-wired half the car so that's sorted.. I treat this thing like my princess that used to be a whore.. I fix up the thrashing caused by other people and occasionaly have my own fun The current engine is noisy but all SRs seem to sound like truck engines with clicking and all that.. it's also got a slight leak from the top of it that I would like to fix up. Nothing major though seems like a typical SR. I suppose the big thing about getting a wrecked engine is I'm willing to roll the dice with an imported wrecked engine because even a thrashed engine has has got to be better than the engine I own now. If you reckon the t518z won't need forged internals then I will scratch that idea - because I'm happy with the power and response of the turbo. I did have the car on the dyno, it needed some timing pulled out but the tune seemed to be okay (in terms of AFR safety) till 1.1-1.2bar. So I will be keeping that or getting a mild re-tune with the new engine, should I decide to get some cams into it. With the wrecked engine package I'd sell the ECU, turbo and gearbox to someone else straight away, then perhaps replace the injectors too (since the fact they are coloured s15 stock but painted the nismo colour over the top has always bothered me). I'm sure the actual engine I could sell to someone who wanted to rebuild too. So $2.5k minus say $1k to get rid of the other gear - $1.5k and then I just need to have it put in. Plus oil and other fluids etc.
