  1. i dont think you can take it out the bottom if you left the box in. Normally you undo the 4? bolts holding in the engine cross member, check for anything else holding it in and lower it. BUT you have to pull the input shaft out the back of the crank, so you may get a catch 22....undo the lot and see if the lot (motor and x member) slides forward enough to clear the shaft...i dunno cos i dropped the lot in through the top
  2. i took out the rb20 box in the car, the the motor out from the top. Replaced it with a rb31det, with a rb25det gearbox bolted on, inlet manifold, exhaust manifoild, turbo, starter all attached.....in through the top using a hydraulic 2t crane Was a piece of piss...took about an hour and a half of friggin aound to get it to sit on the mounts though. Ther crane only goes so far in, so you have to get someone in the bay to lift box over radiator support. Once over jump out, then have two people under, or a trolley on wheels to slide the box back as you lower the lot. Oh yer.. When you get as far as you can go over the top, the engine is still over the radiator support. To clear it, you have to lower the crane while pushing the motor and box forward at the same time....kind of down and forward together... Easy as once its in, just had to plug it all up and your away......
  3. Is it this one?....can the characters be written one on top the other?...or is their a single kanji for it too?
  4. Just thought id show an example of a good piece done, and the same piece done, but a poorer quality.... I would be extremely dissappionted if i had the one done in the second pic. Notice the lack of car taken just behind the head, and down near the end of the tail. Compare it to the first...much more nicely inked. Might even get the tail bits done in red. Trouble is when you start looking....you find more options like the third one pictured. So Rezz....gunna get jabbed while your over there Cheers to both of you for helpin me out to. I wanna get it done right, and didnt know who else to ask, but the SAU correspondants When i come over, ill take you both out for a night on the saki
  5. Could you do me a favour DaiOni...other than the one you have already helped me with? I just want to find out if that dragon i chose is a true "Japanese style" dragon....dont wanna end up with a Chinese dragon and Japanese kanji ....oh and the kanji for dragon dont ask much do i Last thing...I like the dragon pic i chose because it doesnt have any major detail in the body...kind of relies on the skeleton pattern of the dragon itself to make the pic. Could you see if your tattoo guy has anything similar for me? Hard to find a design you want on the net, then get it printed out...if you know what i mean. I will take you up on the offer though...Im most probably coming there in the next year or so
  6. lol....yeah i have noticed that alot. Hence why this thread started. I dont want to end up with a few characters strung together that can be taken out of context...but as you know, its hard to settle on something Maybe instead of going for two words that requires multiple symbols...go for something like a single word...like peace? (I dont know if this still requires one or two symbols) I have seen very funny examples of pieces gone wrong....inlcuding one that was inked on in reverse Going for the one below on the left lower leg on the outside. Wanted something smaller like kanji...or the tsunami crests on the right forearm..... I am planning on coming to Japan in the near future, so will look forward to a take home souvenier Might hold off on the kanji till then too
  7. parts alone = $525 for main bearings, seals and gaskets parts alone or...for a complete rebuild, syncros and all...$930 in parts alone. $600 in labour to do the top (main bearings) $400 to remove and install in car (i can do that myself...well with Joel ) not cheap...but at least it'll be a fresh box when its done....new ones go for around $2700? So roughly...$1200...if nothing else needs replacing
  8. welcome to the club Im glad to see all went well....
  9. cool...ill sit back till hes online...
  10. yup only want a small scaled down one of the crest of the wave..sort of a chopped down version. How hard is it for a gaijin to get irezumi done?....id imagine fairly hard....
  11. cheers Rezz I know, its always the same thing. If you do some research, everyone who knows the language says the same.... I always liked the ink paintings...might have to get a small one done of the tsunami waves drawn japanese style.....U know the ones i mean? Getting a dragon done too.....should scrap the lot and get the Baka Gaijin one done...tell everyone it means "What happens when you want to have a Japanese style tattoo, but everyone tells you what it will look like"
  12. Howdy to all those in Japan I need some help with a tattoo idea....yes you say, another stupid round eye with kanji symbols.... Anyway...after reading numerous articles on deciding what i want...i need to take the obvious things into consideration, and need some help with design (sorry, for better explanation lets say proper stroke technique, and font of the characters) Soo....I wanted some help to make sure it reads as i intend it to... The words i need translated are "inner strength" It doesnt matter which of the three writing systems is used...just comes down to translation, and what looks the best So if any of you could have the words "inner strength" written down for me it'd be great check out this link : http://www.bmezine.com/news/pubring/20031006.html I like the baka gaijin one too...lol, but would like mine written like the one pictured that reads "modified soul". If any of you guys in japan know any links to better types of fonts, let me know too.... Thanks for your time
  13. Yes went to see him. Im going to take the box out of the car and take it down to him to fix. Get him to replace whatevers on its way out, or gone. He seems to know whats required... Just need to save up a tad first...not high on the priority list atm...but will speed up the run in of the motor if its fixed now...lol
  14. where can you get a "trick alloy" rail made here in Adelaide Clint?
  15. Please explain why most people laugh at 100% duty cyle or their afm maxxes out? Id be more worried about blowing the motor than tight arsing when it comes to mods. Surely you must have thought at some point fuel and airflow must be maxxed out, so why leave it till the last minute when the motor is border line to decide whether or not to upgrade? Having just gone through 12 months of a full rebuild, spending big $$, its not fun with no car. Get a z32, larger injectors (rx7 ser 5 drop ins) and a power fc. Dont say you cant afford to stretch it if youve obviously planned to go this far, if not further....
  16. yup. Same setup im going later on. Make sure you find out how much lift you can run before you need to do head work to clear the lobes, but even then its no biggie. I dont see any reason to go for huge cams on a street / track car....other than to bump the redline and powerband up a bit
  17. chris..Joels got a copy....he got it off me
  18. i am to be safe. I had my tuner start it, which im glad i did....it was running very rich, so he pulled out fuel from the pfc.
  19. sounds very tough. Mine is quiter than Joels rb20det on idle, but my exhaust is still very restrictive... Driving..well very diferent. Coming from the rb20 backround its a bigger step than going from the rb25 like yourself. More torque on take off.....ie wheelspin off boost
  20. yup none what so ever on the front drivers and passenger doors.
  21. yer James was telling me he was stressing about getting the geometry right when he was cut and shutting the bellhousing off the sr box onto the r33 one
  22. If i may ask a similar question....if you are chasing decent HP...when does the std rb20 fuel rail become a bit of a concern? Ive got the rb31det in and running....gt35/40r and manifold due any day Im considering replacing the fuel line and rail as well....braided line etc. Is there any difference between the aftermarket fuel rails and the std nissan ones??...besides 12 years of development
