  1. yes the stagea rb25s have both set of holes for both types of sumps
  2. so when you say rb30 pump, is the non turbo one ok or do i need the turbo one? i dont know if they are different so i thought i better ask Ive smashed 2 of them from the last 2 motors trying to get the damn bottom timing belt cog off the crank, what a pain in the arse they are to remove, though luckily i saved one from the 1st rb30 i pulled apart from memory so ill have a look at that. I still wouldnt mind knowing what it is that actually makes an oil pump upgrade neccessary on any particular motor? is it purely based on rpm? thanks again for the info everyone
  3. thanks guys the skirts are not that nice (though without skirts the car looks even worse haha), they dont suit the way the door tucks under, im gonna modify them a fair bit i think, though they do look alot better in person and i got a few decent photos of the car from the HPI shoot but i cant post them online until its in the magazine. Ill throw the lmgt2s on and get it to somewhere decent and take a few pics soon when the new motor gets installed this weekend coming i hope I got the front and rear bars for the nismo kit also sitting here im unsure if i like them or not, they will get test fitted soon as well and see how i like . Oh and the 33 gtr wheels need a 20mm spacer on the fronts they sit too far in the gaurds it looks abit shitty, the rears are spot on though.
  4. hey mate the motor is out and its currently being put together as a cheap drift motor, its just been freshened with rings and bearings and im gonna throw the t04z from my other built motor onto it and run around the 400-450rwhp mark, if it fails i dont care it cost me bugger all (it is a rb30 bottom end and 26 head btw hence the 6800-7000rpm limit). I just want to know why and when an upgraded pump is needed, not just people saying "upgrade it" because someone told them to do it on there motor.
  5. hey guys im wondering what makes the need for an oil pump upgrade neccesary? if i run the motor to the stock rpm limit and make more power does it need to upgraded or only when u raise the rev limiter? say i wanna make 500rwhp with a stock gtr oil pump with a rev limit of 7000rpm max, is this gonna be fine? i know an oil pump upgrade is reccomended because everyone does it for "safety" but why exactly? surely the difference in a motor making 300hp and 500hp is bugger all if the rpm limit is still the same?
  6. fronts real low, as low as possible without strut bottoms sitting on the main arm (cant remember the name), rears arnt super low its actually at max height setting with a full tank of fuel to lower it i think its around the 320mm mark from memory (im running bilsteins too with heaps of extra circlip grooves)
  7. i had a 605awhp stagea rs4 with shit rims and stock external bodywork, black intercooler, nothing to give it away, lets say i had a few laughs in the time it was driving on the street, bunch of young guys in a vx clubsport r8 pulled up at the lights and commented on the sound of the exhust "sounds fast" he said in a sarcastic way. Lets just say once i hit 2nd gear it was all over and he did the fly by when i slowed down and next lights i pulled up again next to him and his passenger said 'f**k mate you need a parachute". Also had a good run with a motorbike from the lights and he didnt expect it thats for sure, he pulled up after the run and said what the hell is in that thing haha.
  8. +1 thats a damn long extension definately would twist alot and give false torque readings, avoid extensions if at all possible and shortest if you have to use one. Though im sure Dazmo would already know that I also found out my head was ported by same guy as well, small world, does yours say anything on the head stating stage 3 or something engraved on the inlet side near where the water bleed area is on the same face the cam covers sit on? mine says "A.V. stage 3 port and polish I & E" from memory.

  10. thats a sprung centre one, mines a solid centre and still a treat to drive, they are absolutely huge for a twin plate too ive never had to drop the engine xmember to put box in either, just tip the motor right back and ya fine.
  11. ive used extreme single plates, os giken quad plate, direct clutch twin (older version) and a npc twin and the npc is the easiest to drive, handles 600rwhp drag launches time and time again, plus hard shifts with a dogbox and it is awesome to drive around town, the engagement is sooo smooth. The os qaud was an absolute pain to take off from lights etc i didnt like it one bit. NPC twin is $2000 from memory, these are cheap as to rebuild as well unlike the os giken ones, definately top notch. My twin plate is bigger than the quad plate, its definately a serious piece of workmanship.
  12. so what do u suggest for 450rwkw then? a single 044 is not gonna cut it, so the cheapest option is to use 2 of them simple. Injector wise if your gonna buy some then why not go the 1000cc's? it just means you never have to upgrade anything again I run twin 044's and use a 1/2' feed and 3/8' return with no dramas. Also running 1000cc injectors as well.
  13. nice project, im keen on some pics of the areas to drop weight out of the bodywork u mentioned
  14. silly question possibly but why dont the new aftermarket ecus on the market these days just come with a usb plug so u dont have to use a usb to com adaptor???? wouldnt this stop the problem? I have issues with my laptop and my autronic ecu but everyone elses laptop works fine using the same usb cable which is weird. Try an Aten usb cable i been told they are the best and only $35 or so, i was told to stay clear of Belkin which is sold in most places too.
  15. they dont blow up because they assemble wrong, its because they are pushing the motors to the limit, if they limited them to run 5.0s they would run without a problem, its got nothing to do with assembly at all, more the tuning side if anything. They are snapping cranks and cams very often, melt the end off plugs every run and usually melt pistons, they aim for maximum power not for reliability. They are pushing every part to the absolute limit and its a game of fixing something and something else lets go, i think a 2jz making 3000hp would be the same as well, these are 8l motors pushing 8000hp, they are using sponsors money to fund these so the only way to go faster is to push things.
  16. the actual reason is its quicker for them to rebuild and strip a motor than to put a new motor in the car by a few minutes and thats why they do it, my uncle and crew had a couple of long discussion with Bruce Reid and John (i think thats his name) Lamitina both crew chiefs of 2 of the top fuelers and they were telling as the amount of motors they are going through and its 3 min quicker from memory to rebuild a motor than to replace one, and as u know they are pushing for every second in the pits to get the cars turned around ready for the next run. They have 5 spare motors in the truck ready to go also and blowers, heads and pistons/rods/sleeves by the bucketload, they dont expect things to last when pushing the motors to the limit.
  17. well unless there is another gold r32 with castrol edge on it i went up to the guys fixing a broken axle on friday and they didnt seem like the friendly bunch i expected, maybe i caught them at a bad time it had a 9.0 dail in on the window on the saturday though so im assuming 9.1ish also there were 2 v8 supercars there, they ran 10.7s at 135mph, pretty bloody quick mph! and a junior dragster beat a f6 typhoon to half track in a drag (though f6 was spinning off the line, it looked a little rigged to me) The top fuelers were smashing motors left right and centre, the money going into those things is insane. John Zappia won top doorslammers again for a change
  18. good meet, weather held out nicely, and seen Mark do all his runs, also had a chat to Paul, very helpful and showed me a few things as well, i didnt get to see Pauls runs because the rest of the people i was with didnt wanna sit around watching street cars, they struggled to watch the super compact at the start but soon changed there tunes and said they were really good (these guys are the crew for a 5.7 sec funny car so they not into the non v8 stuff). A few of the boys on the crew are keen on 2jz's now lol So how did the rest of the runs go Paul? Did you see how Theo went also? That white datto ute with 4g63 was crazy, great to watch wheelstanding on gearchanges lol, absolute weapon!!!
  19. weather isnt looking the greatest thurs is thunderstorms, friday possible shower, sat is cloudy and sun is showers.
  20. another top thread good work! great parts list and plenty of photos is always good. So how much did the hks 2.6 crank weigh in the end? i know my jun 2.7 crank weighed in at exactly the same as stock at 19kg from memory.
  21. can everyone get over the link vs vipec argument its getting abit old now, read the old thread if you wanna argue about that, i would prefer to read decent detailed info on the unit like what sensors can it run etc. can the v88 run and log 6 egt's? and a crank trigger setup is no problem with it is it?
  22. lol well said, but remember alot of these young kids will be future top fuel drivers and learning from young is the best way to get ahead of everyone else. They should be allowed on the big stage but yes 87 is a rather lot, i assume they will get the field out of the way early on in the day and only run the finals at peak times like they do over here. The ones here are running 9 seconds to half track so they are fairly quick, but they do sound terrible and seem to peak at 60ft and sound the same the rest of the run im keen as for the fuelers myself, Perth usually only gets 4 come over and usually 2 or 3 break and its solo passes. Doorslammers are the best to watch, the cars are always all over the track and im sure Zappia will tick another win over the eastern states guys as per usual or if not Robin Judd will sort ya's out
  23. a stagea 4wd sump wont work because they are just a normal gtr sump, u really need either a stagea rb25 engine thats already 4wd (they have the bolt pattern on the block to suit the 4wd and 2wd sumps and the normal 2wd rb25s only have the 2wd sump bolt pattern), or u can buy a rb30 sump adaptor i suppose and use that.
  24. thanks Mick, sounds like a good field of cars, 87 junior dragsters will be the stand out for me lol We get a group of 10 racing here and half the crowd heads to the pits everytime
