  1. I used to think this as well but for many places it IS up to the person behind the counter. So it is their fault that they ruined your life! For example when I was registering a business name at the Dept of Fair Trading, the rules are arbitrary as to whether your business name is "taken" or "too similar" or "allowed". The business name I was registering was deemed to be too similar to an existing company name, even though the industry was completely different, the spelling was completely different and mine was two words where the other was 1 word. Just to show how arbitrary it really was and how much discression the stupid counter staff really have, I went to another Dept of Fair trading office in another suburb and my business name was registered without issue and has never been challenged since... F'ing waste of my time.
  2. I do see lots of crashed S15s though. It's a shame. One was written off outside my apartment on Friday night. Guy drove off as well with a totally f'ed front end. Coolant probably leaked out everywhere.
  3. I paid cash for half of it. The other half is financed over 5 years. The loan repayment is only $100 more than I was paying on my last loan so its no biggie. I will probably have it paid off in 2 or 3 years and I plan to keep the car forever.
  4. Series 3 R33 GTR. There is a 40th Anniversary ECR33 but it is not regarded as a seperate series although there are a number of differences.
  5. Does anyone have a good wallpaper of a black R34 GTR?
  6. uh yeah...
  7. If your impending fuel bill is what's worrying you maybe you aren't prepared for the true cost of owning a Skyline? They are essentially a black hole for money, fuel bills, mods, detailing, servicing - then you'll want to upgrade to a GTR and AARRRGGGHHH!!!! hehehe but its the best hobby you can have.
  8. Theres no way anyone here will be able to tell you this. The costs for importing a car into your own country will vary wildly from Australia. You might not be able to do it at all. Id take a stab in the dark and say 50k - 60k USD or thereabouts.
  9. Its a screw on either side. Pulled it out about a million times myself on my old car when installing various things.
  10. Did someone scratch it deliberately?
  11. I just bought an R34 GTR through a Japanese dealer. Let me know if you want more information. Your plan of putting only 50% down on the purchase is, however, unlikely to succeed. Even if you get some mate at customs to do some dirty work for you, the Japanese dealer is unlikely to want anything to do with it. It's money upfront all by the book. Before you say anything, I did already try this. I didnt even ask about reducing it by 50%, I suggested a couple of thousand - just to the point where i wasnt paying any LCT. But alas that was considered impossible. Also I think you're being slightly optimistic in your price expectations. Expect to pay at LEAST 50k for the car in Japan FOB price. Then factor in shipping and the taxes, customs, LCT, compliance, rego, comprehensive insurance, good alarm since your insurance company will require one and the car probably wont have one... etc etc.. You're looking at very little change from $75 - 80k on road. Even at mates rates. If you want some more info, pm me. If you buy a cheap GTR in Japan, i guess you end up with exactly what you paid for...
  12. Thanks Sydneykid. Very interesting. Good to know that im going to get reamed by the RTA once the car gets here. One question: Why did DOTARS give you a hard time. Was your car the test car for a RAWS? I plan on making a similar post when the GTR is here. Story so far: - Car purchased on 19th August - Good point: Received pics of the car today - Bad point: Car still in Japan
  13. Top Gear is a good, but biased, show. If a car isn't British they tend to find a lot of niggling things wrong with it. I was thinking of buying one recently so I spoke to a few dealers and no-one could get me one to test drive. I was pretty keen so I went and saw them at the Nissan dealer so they could know I was serious, the girl phoned around for 2 weeks trying to get me a track, 6mt, coupe for a drive but no luck. In the end i forgot about the 350 and went with something else. Oh that and they wanted $91k for a Track, Manual with Sat Nav, factory option Bilsteins and dealer option Nismo LMGT4 18" rims. $91k!!! - F that.
  14. You could put one on road for about $55k including FOB price + Taxes + Shipping + Customs + Compliance + Rego + Comp Insurance.
  15. If I had a two car garage, the other spot would be for a V35 i think.
  16. Theyre good value for money I suppose. 2003 model Couple GT black, auction grade 4.5, sold for 2624000 yen. About 33k + import duty + GST + compliance + onroads
  17. You know Ebay just got a new head of security for Australia. Alistair McGibbon - formerly of the federal police computer crime unit (high tech crimes it might have been called). Hes quite a good bloke so its probably worth sending him an email with this guys auction in it, including all the information gathered so far. If anyone PMs me with a list of auctions and information you know so far I will send off an email and he can take some action.
  18. Check out this tyre size calculator, put your stock rims and tyres in the first part and your new rims and tyres in the second and it will tell you all sorts of crap. http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
  19. It's better to leave the runabout auto in my opinion. The GTR is for driving the Bluebird is for going to the shops or going to work. I would prefer an auto runabout simply because changing gears in traffic is a pain in the ass. If you must, then yeah investigate a GTiR box.
  20. Yeah, on top of what's already been said and explained, you are very welcome here, I for one especially value the input given by Skyline owners who are abroad somewhere.
  21. Well DOTARS are actually quite crap and have not updated the website for a while. There are other compliers (I know of one, but there may be more) who can do it. Of the 3 compliers on the DOTARS website for NSW, 1 will not deal with the public, 1 has sold all his compliance plates and the remaining one only has a couple left. Luckily there are more workshops on the way to becoming RAWS so there should be no shortage in the short term.
  22. Thanks, i guess that helps explain the extra cost of vehicles with lots of shaken remaining when purchasing a vehicle in Japan.
  23. Can any of the Japanese resident folk (or anyone else) tell me a bit about what is involved when cars in Japan must renew shaken? (please forgive me if I have not got the terminology right). Thanks
  24. PM me your address, ill send you a DVD with A1 - B2 on it.
